If they dropped it, it was a stupid idea to do so. It has its up side though, some new faces should be seen with failing tactics hopefully.

I think this basically comes down to what some people have mentioned, in regard to the alt alliances.. It sort of loses it's purpose to have a public epeen measuring contest when one power block has ten alliances in the tournament whilst others who only applied with their own alliance are not getting in..
There's a distinction to be made between people whining that their large alliance wasn't lucky enough with the draw, and people complaining that CCP allow clearly unplayed alliances that have been created explicitly to lose fights for a price, or indeed have several chances at the finals...
v0v, In the end it's CCP planning going on here, I do hope that atleast next year they can do this slightly better - I.e Let us have those small unknown alliances getting in and fighting with the more famed ones, rather than those "meme 4chan" alliances getting in which will undoubtedly result in commentators going "Uh.. this is.. I dunno, a goon/pl/whatever alt alliance?" -------------------------------------------------------- Creative Cookie Procuring [Girl.] Are recruiting! |

There really should be another way to select the alliances that will participate.
All true alliances that were not selected should perma wardec all alliances suspected of having alt alliances in the mix. A total revolt and total war across eve.
That may not fix the issue but would be alot of fun.

No...........they had 10 but only 5 got in.
I for one, won't waste my time this year watching it. Last year was bad enough. Where CCP gets tournament out of this is beyond me.

its really sad to see the tournament happen without my alliance and other 39 alliances. Lots of people play only for this tournament, so well done, that you made this happen this year. But if you open it only to elite teams and leave 400 willing players behind, then you do something wrong.
Me always thought, EVE is a really awsome game, breaking every rule, can do everything. But with this reglementation, its like World of Warcraft, where Mr. 41 needs to sit on the table, watching the fun, all skills for nothing.
Maybe next year you start in believing yourself and getting more people to the tournament. Isnt it also fun to organize it and see the fights? Take a look for all of your community, its just a weekend more and lots of people will love you again.
But some fights, you win, some you loose to a stupid hat, thats eve and thats life, so good luck everyone.
All have fun on the tournament. Its the best you paid for, so go for it. Good Fights, you all!

Wont let Faction war players participate, but its A-OK for others to completely fix the AT with alt corps, then crap on the long time players and corps that did not fix the tournament.
Also this is something that can be separated from the normal, "but its a sandbox" mentality as its an official CCP tournament with many choices and situation players cannot control or work around in game.
Is there no one that knows how to run tournaments working there? I mean really?

Thats because if they go and redo it those that got in will complain. Even though it was clearly mishandled from the get go.
This time everyone bringing up issues with how this went down has legitimate reasons to complain. Its pretty much a bad joke now.

The whole idea of SELLING tourney spots was ridiculous. And since lottery chances can be fixed by creating alt alliances the entire system becomes a joke. They should have given automatic entry to top 10-15 or any other number of largest alliances since those are guaranteed not to be alt alliances. Everyone else should be fighting in pre-qualifiers even if there had to be 100 pre-qualifying teams. In the end, those battles would not be broadcasted and would require very modest effort by CCP to organize. Instead they've created a crooked system which turns the tournament into sad farce.

CCP fail once again. Next year make more appropriate prerequisites for Alliance Team entry, I can think of 20 off the top of my head but I won't insult your intelligence I'm sure you could come up with a few in a few seconds like I did. Half of these alliances never even seen combat under their alliance flag, but OH! won't it be funny if one of the PL teams fights the real PL, that would be so neat! No, it would not. Get a clue CCP.

And im sure this is the same response you would have if it was your government or police and their practices that had become corrupted.
Or more like this is your special response because you are faceless on the internet and done have to back up your baloney with substance.

As I have mentioned before in another thread, we saw a huge increase in the number of alliances that signed up this time around, and while there may be some "alt alliances", the current rules did not forbid them to enter the tournament. We are however thinking of methods to try and curb this trend even more, with the pilots date of joining the alliance being the first step towards this. We are also looking into ways to make the tournament pre-qualifiers a bit more dynamic, and allowing more teams to enter as more teams sign up.
Last tournament we only had 69 teams sign up for a tournament with 64 slots, so of course almost everyone was happy. This time we had over 110 teams sign up, however, a lot of teams only signed up in the very last days and hours of the sign up period. This meant that we were too close to the start of the pre-qualifiers to make significant changes to the schedule and add more rounds.
While a lot of you seem to think that this tournament is easy to run, and doesn't require more than one person, that is very far from the truth. At minimum we need to have 6 people working the entire time the tournament is running to be able to run the number of matches we currently do. If we were to increase the number of matches, we would either have to book minimum 6 people for over a month straight, with no days off work, or book maybe 8-10 people for 4 weeks, with multiple matches running concurrently, which adds a lot to managing the tournament.
Since the Tournament takes place in uncharted space, players are unable to reach the tournament systems on their own, meaning that we have a team of GameMasters who handle the direct contact with the teams, and assist them getting to and from the tournament system. On top of that we have CCP Sreegs and myself handling the actual matches, starting / stopping matches, punishing players when needed and doing all the necessary background and module checks we need to do, to ensure that people are all running with valid fits and players.
We do have a lot of tools, and we are always increasing the size of our toolbox with every tournament, there are still a lot of things that we cant (or don't want to fully automate) simply by the fact that the event takes place on Tranquility and not a test server like Singularity. We are dealing with human beings here, so there isn't always an absolute right and an absolute wrong, so it would be near impossible to "just write a script" that handled all these things automatically, and have it make the right decision every single time.

Fair enough. It's obviously a hell of an operation to run, props for stepping up to do it, and for still being willing to engage in these threads.
If there is no chance of a CCP stream for next weekend I guess we're still reliant on player streams and fraps...
Although I've actually enjoyed the player provided stuff quite a bit, especially those who included their voice comms. Adds another level for me, and commentators however good they are, can only ever guess what a team is up to.
