Howdy fellow capsuleers,
We will have the latest iteration on Captains Quarters up for public testing and feedback, starting TODAY. This time around we're focusing on getting final assets in and the overall performance of the new in-station environments. Sorry for the short notice this time around, but we wanted to open up the gates as soon as it was ready and that didn't leave time to give a proper heads up.
Full details will be forthcoming from CCP Chiliad in a new Dev blog, but here's the gist of it:
- Minmatar Captains Quarters, new tutorials, and new crash-course on Duality beginning on May 20th, in the Emrayur system - This build is not fully stable or complete, you have been warned!
We are looking for feedback on:
- Performance, hardware and graphics issues, memory leaks
How to participate:
1. You can find the Duality installer here. 2. Don't forget to create a shortcut to eve.exe and add " /server:duality" [note the space] in order to connect to the correct server. 3. Create a new character that is Amarr and in the Royal Amarr Institute school. (You should start in the Emrayur system) 4. Join chat channels: -- "CQ Info" ----[Moderated and for instructions and information from CCP only] and -- "CQ Testing" ----[For discussion, questions, comments, etc.]
** Note that the Mac installer is available, but the Mac client is not properly supported on this build. If you have bootcamp and can boot into windows, the windows client should stil work though.
!*! Please bear in mind that this is NOT a final/stable build, expect there to be bugs!á !*! This build is to give everyone a chance to play around with the new shiny toys, and to give us your impressions, suggestions, and critical feedback. We are already aware of issues with the tutorials pointing to overview functionality that is not yet completed.
File bug reports! If you find bugs, have problems, experience crashes, etc. we definitely want to hear from you! Filing a bug report is easy and is the absolute best and quickest way to inform us of any problems so we can get them resolved as quickly as possible.
* You can file a bug report here: http://bugs.eveonline.com * You can find tips on how to write a good bug report, and a great example here.
Give us your feedback!
Once you've had a chance to play around with the new CQ, Tutorials, and Crash Course, please post your feedback here, using the following template:
!*! All questions should be rated 1-5 (1=Terrible, 5=Win) !*!
1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale) ** Note that if you experience hardware issues, odd graphical bugs, etc. we would really like to get a DxDiag.txt from your machine to ehlp us identify edge cases and hardware incompatibility issues prior to releasing the code to TQ.
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale)
3. General feedback - In your own words, please provide general feedback for the new CQ/Tutorial experience. Also feel free to give us any comments, concerns, suggestions, and problems you encountered.

Which kind of "not supported" is this?
The "it is guaranteed not to work" kind or the "we haven't tried to make it work and aren't collecting feedback, but if it does work, good for you" kind? ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Edited by: Carola Kessler on 20/05/2011 17:47:56 AS above stated from another player allready, stuck on undocking, with my Char from Emrayur station shows only the loading Navigation datas, Bug reported as well, also no flexible hairs shown, otherwise its a great step forward iteration, oh before i forget, Fittings doesn't show neither modules do, Shipchange works fine the Animations are much better then last time, so is the sitting pose on the couch.
Ligths and shadows are looking much better now great work so far CCP
Edit Implementing here a Screenshoot from my stuck in undocking sequence since for some reason didn't worked in the bug report : http://imageshack.us/f/707/screenshotundockingsequ.jpg/

I went to the character editor, loaded up one of the new hair styles - it took me back into CQ when I was done, but there was a graphic bugged human model in the doorway to the hangar overlook. I could not get back to the character editor after that and CQ no longer loads for me. It occurred to me that there is a reason all the hair is missing.

Greatly appreciate this heads up in advance this time around.. a lot of time was wasted by many last time only to find out that it wasn't intended to work at all on the Mac in this form.

just tested ;
i don't see any difference on performance from last time ; it's not playable. the only difference is that now we have options, but they are all bugging. like having to check/uncheck an option 3 time to make it works. also low quality char give me 5x LESS fps.
i'm at 12-16 fps at best on CQ currently with my geforce 9600 gts i'm at 40-120 fps on TQ...
only good thing i saw is that you listen a bit to us for the screens ; i liked seeing stats on drakes price. that's a good idea.
but please do something about performance, cause if you launch CQ with what is currently on duality, you'll be hanged.

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale) 5, on my machine this feels awesome. Hovers around 50FPS on the dock, On the dock, the fitting holographic display device is off of the table. From the dock looking back into the room (Caldari Navy Station in Uuhulanen, there are a couple of flashing red graphics by the couch. Love the garbage bag by the door. Also my toons beard is rendered white/grey instead of black.
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale) 5

Undocking is bugged, you get stuck at the screen that says: Entering Space: Checking Navigational equipment. Even relogging does not fix it. Performance wise, at max graphics, sans AA, between 12-20 fps, on a mobile Radeon HD 4680 1GB so I give it a 3 Graphics wise, there's a lot of stuff missing, but it is WIP. New clothes are okay, except the jet black tshirt and jacket, they look like a black hole. The minmitar goggles look weird but are a nice new touch. oh, and the skirts, finally women have options.

Same problem here, but if you click on the link to the client in the failed to repair dialog you get to download it. Pity the standalone installer shows the archive header corrupt and crashes if you try and use it though....
Windows 7 64bit here FYI.
Would making a copy of the TQ install and letting it auto-update work?

What it means is that eventually official Mac support will go the way of official Linux support, and Mac users will be using Wine to run EVE.
Much like us Linux users have been since the Premium Graphics client was introduced, and maybe even before (I only go back to 2008).

Copying TQ install and running SisiLauncher on it appears to have worked successfully through Wine for me, but resulted in 1.19GB of data downloaded.
Appears to have worked - as I ran this all remotely and haven't fired up the client, but no checksum errors or "file is corrupt" messages.

Known Issues with this build:
Verified by QA:
- The tutorials refer to overview functionality which is not in yet
- Undocking with ANY turrets fitted to your ship will result in you getting stuck.
- WORK-AROUND: Since this test is focused on the Captains Quarters itself, avoid undocking entirely.
- Fitting tool is non-functional in this build
- Editing chat MOTD causes general UI failures
- Ship fitting action-object is not properly placed (Balcony location)
- Walking on an incline is quite jittery
- Stairs are misisng from the Minmatar CQ entirely
- Brakcets for action-objects are not working
- Hair assets are missing entirely from characters heads
- Captains quarters screens cannot be used via left-click (r-click still works)
Reported, but not yet verified:
- After exiting re-customization the ôplugsö on the neck are gone
- Skin is missing for some players
- Those without skin find their skin floating in the center of the CQ, completely red
- Re-customization to add the new hair results in black-screen on exiting NCC
- Adjusting ôcloth simulationö setting results in naked characters
- Re-docking results in being stuck, reclogging fixes

Im not sure if anyone else has noticed, maybe its me, or my graphics Card, but when I'm in the Captain's Quarters, there Seems to be some kind of Film Grain effect applied to the screen.
When I enter space or Character creation however It doesn't exist anymore. Is this some kind of new feature or is it a bizarre Graphical bug that needs to be fixed?
Will update with Screenshots in a moment.

I get these errors even when I try to keep the test clients updated. I was in on the last Duality test, yet the client still won't update for the next iteration.
Mac OS X
I have the following clients installed, both test clients give the following "error": EvE Tranquility Version: 6.44.259851 EvE Singularity Version: 6.43.243408 EvE Duality Version: 7.10.249611

There was an unexpected error while retrieving update status:

Do you want to go to support page?
Yeah, no, not really, but thanks for offering. Even when I say "yes" to the question, it just closes my EvE client and doesn't take me to any support page. I manually go to the duality patch download page and, 'lo and behold, you have patches for versions before (247655) and after (258386) my current version, but not my version itself.
Good luck on your testing. Let us know once you've figured out how patching clients should work.

Trying to test it but I have all 3 character slots filled, I started a biomass reprocessing but do I really have to wait 9 hours? Can someone for example GM or something... just make it happen? lol I'm pretty sure the 9 hours is only to give server time to process it or something. If not then damn.

Edited by: DoeRej Mi on 20/05/2011 23:03:49 Test Results:
1- Good performace (Rating 4), no UI lag to speak of. Not the best framerate considering I'm running 2x AMD 6970 in X-Fire mode but always between 40-50 FPS.
2- Overall performance was good (Rating 4).
3- Zooming with the mouse wheel seemed to zoom at an angle for me, perhaps 45 degrees in a line from back left to front right in stead of back center to front center as expected. Got a crash when using the movement keys at the same time as bumping into a wall and rotating the view with the mouse.
Better frame rates up to 65fps in the hanger environment, than in the actual sofa bit.
One minor thing, perhaps the music should start at a much lower volume than the voiceover? It was drowning out the tutorial in some tracks.

Maybe this is off topic, but I want to place idea here. 1. The sunglases can have few positions - normal (on the eyes), on the top of the head (as diadem), lower (down, on the nose).... and you don't need to enter the dresser to change it, right? 2. Rank markings - there should be something indicating the character rank in his corporation - CEO, Director, or something else. Also the rank signs can be designed as the corp logos and the medals.
I'm sure that nobody will pay attention to this, but it worth to try, right?

Some UI lag, and certain screens such as repair service & journal windows are empty. FPS is fairly low on 8800GT, around 20 FPS average. Memory & Performance tabs are empty in the monitor
2. Overall performance: 2.5
3. General feedback
Once I turned off physically simulated cloth and hair my hair displayed correctly (before it was flat and black) and all my clothes were still on :). I can confirm that after re-customisation of my character the plugs on the back of my neck were no longer visable. My tanktop shirt was shorter than usual, and I noticed the same on one of my other characters who wore a tanktop. It would be nice to see the ship closer to the balcony and be able to rotate it. The walk to the balcony is a bit far, it would be useful if we could have a hotkey to walk faster or jog.
Good job so far, i'm looking forward to the next build.

Seriously, it's a lot better than the first one, but.. We got a ways to go kiddos! You guys have pretty much caught on to everything I was going to point out. I did notice that the video seemed 'grainy'. I was curious, is that an intentional 'gain' effect (working with video, a lot of it shot at night and in the dark, I know you can see grain cameras have low light gain turned up).
If it is, it's kind of cool. If it's not, well, bug reported, but don't necessarily take it out, unless you're breaking my video card.

1. Rate the graphics performance 4 Ran smoothly while walking and using the new interface(s) in the CQ. Undocking before the second part of the tutorial *known bug stalls the game with turrets* graphics were nice, the lighting effect on the UI made the game feel more alive. The new UI look is refreshing. 40+ fps throughout.
2. Rate the overall performance 3 Acknowledging the known bugs with the current build and the "grain effect" within CQ. With those bugs aside, the UI was smooth and easy to use. The game (for me) had the feeling of more 'depth' and more concise(things didn't feel out of place/wasteful). Would've given 4 if it weren't for the annoying grain effect!
3. General feedback
After using the re-customisation the character model changed. Hair on the character changed colour (black > light blonde!), shirt was shortened and the middle rear of the trousers were missing. A red texture also appeared in the middle of the CQ after using the re-customisation. Just to note, as it started to load(char change) a sound file was played "warping!". A lengthy walk to the balcony; a running/faster state would be very nice.
For the "grain static effect" view while in the CQ, my PC is the following:-
e6300 2.4Ghz OC 4GB DDR2 Nvdia 680 GTX Vista 64bit Ultimate
The tutorial felt a bit slapdash in places. A little refinement will do a lot to add more immersion.
Overall, I'm very happy with the CQ in general, the new UI looks good (esp lighting effects while piloting in space), the background music during the first part of the tutorial quest was really good (new music maybe? like the bass!) and for the most part pleasing to play.

Edited by: Blue VanMeer on 21/05/2011 00:15:18 1. 4 I didn't get much lag to speak of, just lots of graphical glitches. Submitting bug reps. For reference (and I say this in all my bug reps), I'm running an AMD Phenom II, Win 7, and an NVidia GeForce GTX 465 with driver 8.17.12.5896
2. 2 There's a lot of issues surrounding hair physics flat breaking hair, shadows being screwy, and the floating red glowy skin thing (that is some System Shock s*** right there). The ship holo is also not particularly well-behaved.
3. Technical issues aside, there are some mechanical things I would really love to see adjusted, "quality of life" kind of stuff.
- I'd like to be able to move a little faster in a pinch. Overheat button to get "Brisk walking pace" or something. Not that you're covering so much territory, but because so much of it is functionally blank (the ramp up to the ship lookout), it would be nice to be able to speed up when you're done gaping at the pretty.
- Stairs down to the lower central area with the couch &c. Right now it's just a kind of cliff that your character mysteriously teleports down.
- Right-clicking on the ship hologram rather than just the projector to access those menus. Right now you have to click on the dinky little projector thing rather than the ship hologram itself, which is silly and unintuitive to the point where I hope it's a bug.
- On that, at the moment the projector kind of hovers in nothingness in the ship hanger area, and the big console in there is exceedingly blank. Hoping you have something planned for that
I was not all that excited about CQ, to be honest, but having tried it out even in this incomplete state I can see what you are trying to achieve and I like it. I appreciate that there is a central area where everything is readily accessible at an instant if you're in a rush, but if you have time on your hands you can take in the aesthetics. Be aware, though, that the convenience of the former is essential to the enjoyment of the latter. Don't slow me down if I'm in a hurry.

Biggest issue is that the visuals chug like a mother****er. I mean, alright, it isn't THAT bad, but I'm running with a GTX 460 SE, Core2Duo 3GHZ with 3 gigs of ram, and the scene doesn't go above 50 FPS. Considering the size and detail of the scene, that's pretty damned horrendous. Also, I notice there's a sort of soft noise which filters everything. I'm guessing you're running some fancy-ass lighting tech. You may want to seriously reconsider that.
The control itself is more than a bit sloppy. Beyond the animation issues, you really do walk too ****ing slow. I'm not asking to sprint around, but it'd be nice if I actually had a decent stride. The whole control system of holding down the left mouse button to move and having to right click objects in 3D space is all very disorientating. Consider making it first person. Barring that, make it so that by default, you move the mouse to look around, and you escape that mode of control by right clicking or something. Because right now, my character controls like a very clumsy submarine spaceship. Trying to dual wield clumsy third person WASD and a Windows: EVE Edition gives me a headache.
The general feel of the setting is nice. Artistically, you've got a good thing going. I genuinely like the main screen with its various scrolling news articles and things, and seeing your ship there is neat. It'd be nice to be able to get closer to the ship, but if we get too close we're going to start seeing the oddities in the textures, so, yeah.
Overall: 2 out of 5.
It has potential, but it needs some serious polish.
Edit:
Oh, and the early stages of the RMT interface terrifies me.
Just saying.

Originally by: Razor Bird Undocking is bugged, you get stuck at the screen that says: Entering Space: Checking Navigational equipment.

On my other character, it was flagged for recustomization. So I continued but only got a black screen and no further. Relaunch and once again went to recustomization. Made a new character but got a black screen when I went to the CQ. Relaunched and seemed to go to the CQ. I had all the screen like chat windows and character pane on the left and station info on the right, but everything else was black. On this characyer, I was able to get in and do a walk-a-bout. response seemed ok, altho I would have liked to have gone faster when I wanted. The mirror was cool. I had no interaction with anything. I had some red flashy thing on sitting on the grating leading to the living area.

it's very frustrating having to delete the old client and re-download a new client every single time you come out with something new on Duality. Why can't you just have a patch like you usually do on TQ? (i connected to duality and it downloaded a big patch, but when i tried to connect after, it said it was incompatible, so must be I have to download a new client *again*) grr... _______________________________________________ "If you want to taste the ground, feel free to attack." - Kenshin Himura

The framerate is good for me, but the whole graphics of the cq including the character have a lot of "noise" (like old tv when the signal isnt strong enough, but with higer resolution). Looking from the balcony to the hangar, the noise stops at the edge of the cq and the hangar is at it used to be.
An option to turn the ship inside the hangar would be nice (some sort of draggable wheel thingy and a lever to lower or rise the ship inside the hangar). Also an "hangar camera" option that shows the hangar like before (what will become of station spinning, if you can not spin the station? )
Also, the character is very slow. he needs an "run" option, just in case of an emergency.
There was this nice video on youtube where the char comes out of the pod, can we have that somewhere? Pod leaving and entering animation (with an option to turn the animation off for the people who have seen it too often).
it would also be great, if the whole ship hologram would be the clickable interface, not just the stand. it is tiny on the table and out of reach at the console.
Some mouseover animations for the interactive objects would be nice. Like the ship holo start spinning slowly and showing some areas highlighted in turn (like working with an engineering interface).
Why are the drinks not drinkable? Would be nice to have some animations for the stuff that lies around there.

This time for the test, I was able to move around some, and to see things some what more clearly. A lot of what I did see, could remind me of looking at the environment on a monitor that is under water. The movement for me was still slow and very much like walking through quicksand, but this time I was able to see more, and at least interact with the environment a little more. I have filled out a bug report on what I experienced on duality. Rayn

1) graphix performance was fine for me (barring the hair issues, which went away if you turned off physically simulated hair and cloth) ran at an an average 23fps for most of the time (2560x1024 max settings and AA on 8xQ) although it dropped to a 17 average after using NCC for some strange reason. so 4/5 for that.
2) overall performance, barring the things I bug reported/ are known issues it all pretty much ran fine, took a while to load the station environment on login but once loaded it was ok. couldn't test dock/undock as that was broken. again 4/5
3) I still want this to be optional, I see no reason why I would get out my pod every time I docked in a station. I know this is the way you plan to do it and I am one of many who want for a host of reasons to have the option to stay in ships with a regular/improved hanger view. By all means start new players off in incarna and make getting into their pod a big deal. but don't make us decant every time we dock... please.
I have made an entire post about the issue I have spotted with the NCC and portrait creation in the 'test server feedback section' (don't ask me why I would post issues about the test server in the test server feedback thread it must just be a little quirk I have... no actually you have rules about it... huh so this thread is in 'general discussion' because? ;-p ) link here thread
Lighting still needs some work but much better than first iteration. The UI still needs to do things in situ rather than open up old UI windows or there is no point. Plus if I have to use the old UI in station I am never going to see the station under all my windows (it looks nice and clean in my BR screen-shots 'cos I killed most of them for testing, I won't do that on TQ)
Overall I am looking forward to ambulation, and this is definitely a step up from the last patch, the devblog was very good in detailing where you are and where your going, answering a lot of questions I would have had before I even logged in. And the guys from ccp online while I was testing were very helpful. I still have to stress however that if this is not optional on docking its going to really irritate, and if the ambulation UI (aUI ?) doesn't allow me to do everything I need to do in station without loading all the old UI (oUI ?) windows, it's not going to matter how good it looks, I am never going to see it. __________________________________________________

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc)(1-5 scale)
1.1 I rate this a 4. Everything ran smooth on my system. However, the lighting at times seemed to make the face of my character look odd. Realistic lighting isn't always better. This is after all a game. Increase ambient lighting in all directions so that I can see my character and environment properly.
2. Rate the overall performance(1-5 scale)
2.1 I cannot comment on this. Not sure what "overall" refers to.
3. General feedback
3.1 Zooming is weird. I do not like that when I zoom in it takes me slightly to the right of my character. Implement zoom properly.
3.2 Using the 'S' key flips my character 180 degrees around to walk toward the camera. This is odd. make the character walk backwards.
3.3 Characters walk WAY to slow. I don't need my character to run, but I actually get impatient walking down the very short corridor. Investigate longer/quicker strides; footfalls should still match the distance/speed a character travels. Experiment 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% speed increases to see what feels better. AS it is character movement feels awkward.
3.4 Ensure I can swap the functionality of the left and right mouse buttons around. Right now they match the functionality while in a ship; left_mouse = rotate around object, right_mouse = pan away from object. Most other MMOs have this reversed. I prefer how other MMOs do it.

First try of the CQ.
- Motions are pretty good, no bug for me but changing direction (180¦) is very strange. - Stuck at undock and can't access to the game even after relog. - Zoom out is ok but zoom in finishes aside my char. - After using recustomization there is a red ghost of a part of my char in the room and she lost her shoes. - Clic right on object to interact is working except : "open drone bay" and "open cargo bay". - When clicking "open ship hangar" and "open character customization" I can hear "warp drive active"... - Can't lie on the bed :( - No button to access news and internet? - The hologram of the ship on the balcony if not on the console but behind, had to move the camera to get it and beeing able to clic right. Undock button is good. - After clincking "exitsofa" the char is stuck, can't move by double left clicking... I manage to unstuck it after many both mouse clicking.
It seems that colors have a problem, the whole image has a kind of fog. It should be more bright.
I try the CQ tutorial, no problem.
FPS : between 35 and 47 (all effects set to high quality - against 60 now on TQ in station).
CPU Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 4 GB DDR2 GeForce GTX 285 oc Windows 7 (64 bit)
Graphics : I've got the feeling that it will be great when finished and all bug corrected, so 4 for the moment and 5 at the release I hope.
Overall performance : seems good.
Feelings : a great work is under progress to allow us to walk is station, CQ is already a big step in the EvE future and the result is better than what I was expecting since many years now. For sure it will improve the immersion in the game. But we need more drinks ! and also a button to shut down the lights for sleeping (perhaps it's ctrl+q).

Downloaded client and installed. The installer gives the option to run on completion, this starts the (wrong?) client which then wants to download another 4gb so I cancelled the download and use the previous test's shortcut to start the client.
After character selection the station environment is a little slower to load, than the current one, but not too bad.
I clicked undock immediately, as I wanted to see how long it would take from character selection to flight. I'm treated a track from the ingame music and I get the usual progress bars until they stop on "entering space, checking navigation systems" ... to the feedback thread.

- Undocking with ANY turrets fitted to your ship will result in you getting stuck.
- WORK-AROUND: Since this test is focused on the Captains Quarters itself, avoid undocking entirely.
Oh, that explains it.
I try logging in again on the same character, but it looks like I count as having undocked as I get to the same "entering space" message and there's that music again.
@CCP Tanis: How about putting DON'T UNDOCK in the op
I wanted to rage, but the music stopped me (I hadn't heard it for years)
Time for bed, I'll try try again tomorrow with an alt, but this time I won't do anything as silly as trying to undock in a space simulator

On linux while in the quarters if you click the mouse turns into a white box and then returns to normal when you release and the entire space looks grainy however what doesn't look grainy is amazing, I see no problems memory issue on ubuntu 11.04 and besides the mouse problem and the afore mentioned stair issue on the balcony I really like the way this is shaping up.

Even though you said the Mac was not supported yet, I decided to download a Duci client and see what, if anything was working.
Turns out I got more than nothing, but not enough to give you more than general feedback.
Loading the CQ was very time consuming, over a minute. You need alot more work before its "equal performance" to the current incursion build.
Once I was in almost everything was black, with by avatar showing as a silhouette. the ship hologram showed, some lights showed, and the catwalk was a gray rectangle off in the distance. I remembered the pictures of how the CQ was laid out and that allowed me to navigate to the catwalk where there was actual light! All shades of gray, but I could go out and see my ship. But my avatar was still a hairless silhouette.
All normal UI elements were missing. No neocom, no chat window, no station services. Clicking on stuff never gave a result, other than walking. Hitting esc resulted in nothing. When the CQ was loading all that stuff did show for a second or two (with the rest of the screen totally black), but then it went to a mostly black CQ with no UI.
Walking seems straightforward, but in a few places I was "walking in place", like near stairs.

From what I've seen so far, it looks to be much improved over the first CQ test. However, I still have major lag. My FPS is hovering around 8-10 with graphics set low. Also having issues with the camera still. Occasionally when I move the screen will go completely black. Undocking will not fix the problem. Only way to fix involves reloading the game. Graphics, I rate a 3, Performance is a 3

1. Graphics performance - 1
better than the initial release but still quite poor on my hardware (2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo 2, 8 GB RAM, 9600M GT). I was getting 2-3 FPS with the default SISI settings, 8-10 FPS with the interior quality turned way down.
2. Overall performance - 2 Camera is still too jumpy, bouncing on a lot of the geometry in the CQ. At one point the camera shot off deep into the interior of the model. Recovered by entering and exiting recustomization. Clipping on the balcony ramp is acting goofy for me, my characters seem to ocassionally drop down slightly so they're wading shin-deep through the balcony instead of walking on it.
3. General feedback
Like the newly added clutter -- cereal box, bottle of Quafe, ashtray on the coffee table, etc. Makes the CQ feel far less sterile and more lived-in. Is this going to be somewhat randomized a bit? It would break immerson for every, say, Caldari CQ at every Caldari station to have the exact same set dressing.
Lot of promise, but the performance still sucks.

Edited by: unit138 on 21/05/2011 06:45:44 Edited by: unit138 on 21/05/2011 06:44:25 Well lets see here, from the top.
Overall I would give this a rating of 4 for the personal experience on my desktop.
Im running a Win7 based PC with an AMD 1090T @3.22ghz and a Radeon HD5850 with 8 gigs of RAM. Graphics settings are set to Quality, with AA at 8x, all boxes checked, all settings High.
Within the quarters I get between 25-35 fps logged via the client ( + - 5 fps) while Xfire shows an average of 60 fps ( + - 10 fps). Walking out to the hangar bay shows an increase overall with client fps averaging 45 ( + - 5 fps) and Xfire even holding pretty steady at 80 fps ( + - 10 fps).
Walking around I encountered one graphical glitch I have yet to be able to reproduce. Walking out of the quarters looking to the hangar, as I passed the couch the screen flickered for almost a full second. Again this yet to be reproduced after many tries.
The holo projector in the quarters that displays the ship or pod is another thing. When the source (the projector) leaves the frame, the ship vanishes (same goes for the one in the hangar)
I have also seen walking down ledges as being an issue, not really stepping down as much as slowly floating to meet the floor. And walking in general is not really smooth at all, it seems like my character is constantly tripping.
I did run into an issue with pathfinding. Going from the hangar to the CQ by double clicking worked until my character ran into the stairs and started walking in circles without proceeding forward, this only happened once (again out of many attempts to reproduce the issue)
Other than no sprint feature and cloth clipping issues (with or without simulated hair and cloth) I would say: gg
EDT: This is a video I was able to capture. In it you can see the holo projector thing I spoke of and some of the walking issues and cloth clipping issues as well as current FPS (client and Xfire in the yellow)

Same issue, 4/5 on the graphics/ui, 5/5 for how it worked, the mirror was a nice touch
General impression, the idea was nice, it felt smooth, aside from the dissappearing stairs. A way to move faster would be nice, I know i spend most of my time in a pod, but it would be nice to jog a little.

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) 3 In the character creator, I had massive performance issues when making changes. The game would appear to hang for periods of time when I made just about any change. In game was fine.
2. Rate the overall performance 3
3. General feedback A run option would be nice. Walking is very slow and can take a long time to go around the room. Can see this becoming very annoying in future. More camera controls similar to what we have in space would be nice. The camera and zoom is a bit restrictive and I the camera kept defaulting to my character being at the edge of the screen rather than centre when I logged in.

I can login to duality, I used the new avatar creator to update an alt in highsec (couldnt make new one cause all my character slots are taken), but the game gets stuck on "entering game". No big crash, I can still exit game from esc, but I cant enter it.
I accidentally clicked the original eve.exe once so the client started logging into singularity, asked if I want to DL a patch of ~4GB, I said no, exited client, then used the correct duality shortcut. Might that be relevant?

1. graphic performance: 4 30fps on a top card is okay, but not great 2. overall performance: 4 3. Comments: most parts in QC seem rather empty, and rather gloomy. Some lighting adjustments might be in order, or give people an option to control the lights. since we can't undock, can't really comment on the tutorial, only a couple of steps until undocking. voiceovers are nice, and clear.

Edited by: Spacewarp on 21/05/2011 08:22:18 Ok here are my votes :)
for the graphical performance.
#1 The first account i logged on didnt ever come further then a black screen :( Maybe due to the fact that he was in space, but i am not sure. The second account took a long time into the black too, but finally i came into the quarters. I cant say for sure whether the long waiting time was caused by overall engine or the graphical one. Only thing is normal it hardly takes time at all (geforce 9800gt) When then in station i didnt look at fps but on the fact if it "looked" slow. This wasnt the fact. so I would say a 4 there.
#2The overal perfomance gets a 2 since the startup was very very slow. But maybe thats also the graphical bit so correct me if i am wrong there
#remarks. Its a test system so i need to have remarks :) First It "feels" better then with the last test. It looks like the lights are better proportioned this time, although still al ittle to dim for my taste. I like the little thingies lying and standing around. Execpt for the trashbag. I room like this should have a easy way o get rid of trash. The screens for info look great. But then i walk to my ship. I remembered the nice picture of pilots looking up to their ships at the forum about incarna, but i had to almost broke my neck to see my beautifull noctis :) Further more there was a stair leading down to, i reckon, the ship, but it kept showing and dissappearing. Thus being a graphical bug. The hangar itself i liked.
One thing that sort of annoyed me was the zooming in. When i zoomed in the point of view of the camera moved to the right of my toon. This will have been done to the fact that you finding standing yer toon before yer camera eyes, so i can understand that in some way. But.....if i turn my toon so i face it in front, i want to look my toon in the face. But when i zoom in, again the point of view is drawn to the right, leaving me no way to look myself in the face :)
I can imagine that lateron we get a view where we dont see the toon, but look from its eyes.....and then THE MIRROR would be even more awesome.
This were my 2 isk cents
regards,
Spacewarp
PS is it possible to delete the 3rd toon per default? Or remove the restrictions so that we dont have to wait so long to delte an old one. That way we can always create a new one. Now i should wait like a day and thats not likely to happen :p, having my mind then set to maybe other things I really like help test it for ye, but at the time i can make for ye and not today and later after one day my toon is deletetable

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) 3/5 Like you can see on this video (youtube link) I have no eyebrows, my shirt wasn't fully present (cut where it meets the trouser) and i have this strange red thing glowing in my quarter.
Here is my DXdiag report :

2. Rate the overall performance 2/5. I generally play games with more than 24FPS with my computer, and i reach 19 FPS with all on high settings, 1920*1080, and i think that's sad (comparing with ME2 wich is a very nice game, sci-fi universe as well but with absolutly no lag at all on my computer). Graphics are nice where not bugged, but performance is awful i think.
3. General feedback General feeling is way better than old release, and stuff in place makes me think it's going great, but i used to think to that without having a specific incarna UI we can't judge the real important thing that we want to test here : the interaction with environnement and that's really sad. Like i said before : screw right clics for opening contextual windows, we want interactive stuff, interactive screen doom3 style ;)

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) my vote: 1 terrible terrible terrible framerate is extremely low, even with low settings changing settings ended up with an all green enviroment, no more visible character and stucked Aura i had to quit and log back in (yeah yeah, i'm sending you a bug report with dxdiag already)
2. Rate the overall performance my vote: 2 terrible again, the station is unplayble to me, once out it seems to be fine, but framerate is slower than TQ
3. General feedback tutorial is fine, sometimes aura simply disappear and i was like "wtf?" i'm not new so that's not a problem to me, it was easy to figure out what the next step was, but if that happens to a new player, well, that would not be good Once the tutorial ends there's no single word from aura, she simply disappear again leaving the player like "what now?" she should say something about the possibilities
tl;dr: i hope some serious improvement and optimizations are on the way, else my whole gaming experience is going to lower a freaking lot.

I would like to participate, but evidently my account was too recently reactivated (Thursday morning?) to be considered active on Duality.
I remember being able to request this be manually updated during a previous test (of the Carbon creator, I believe), so I'm doing so here. Of course I'm not sure if that applies in this case, but I figured it worth a try. _______________________________________________ æA planet is the cradle of mind, but one cannot live in a cradle forever.Æ ùKonstantin Tsiolkovsky |

I understand that this build focuses on "hardware, performance, memory leaks and graphics issues", but as the next one will be "feature complete" I feel a need to remind CCP of this strong suggestion for options to be added:
[ ] Always show hangar when docking. [ ] Always show quarters when docking. [ ] Prompt to choose between hangar and quarters.
Please, for the sake of immersion... |

First I would like to say a big thank you to CCP for getting the walkway partially textured and adding more gems, such as the holographic ship imagery and doodads in the background. Oh, and a bed, now we can sleep easy at night, literally too!
And now for a spontaneous misfire (but having faith that CCP will notice and want to take care of the following)
Quoting the new Captain's Quarters Devblog
"Sitting animations have been replaced with the final ones"
Just for sake of helping CCP catch this: (Captain's Quarters Screenshot)
No bad intent meant by this, but if they're final and you won't be changing say, the hand animations, I suggest removing this and probably many other longer-than-waist tops from the character creation feature. I'm not wishing to complain about hands and wrists going right through solid clothing, here...
but I am getting the feeling CCP wants a polished product. What with doing everything else so well.. CCP's own statements to exceed and excel and push the bar again and again. You get the picture. Here's hoping that hands will not go through solid clothing for once in gaming history :) just my two isk.

Edited by: Madcapnl on 21/05/2011 10:30:28 Graphics: not dropping below 25 fps, quite enough. Score 5
Overall performance: no clue what u mean here
General feedback: No content, no immersion, bad UI (rclick to access almost anything), dumb wsad/mouse combo (please check FPS games for ways on how to do it right; maybe ask Dust team for advice?), overlapping graphics on some moves (for example: while sitting down), basically does the same stuff as the Neocom does, but now one has to walk around to get it done.
I am not into roleplaying that much, and I am trying to work with you guys here, but this is just very disappointing, bordering epic fail. Nothing in CQ will give you the roleplaying feeling IMHO.
<sarcasm mode on> Or maybe it is actually immersive, it actually looks like the International Space Station: a clean, static, dull and scientific space where only people that have been carefully selected can live. I wonder whether this is the kind of immersion you guys are aiming for.
Edit: overall score 1

Very well done, there is still hope for this to be a great worthy replacement for hangar carousel I play from time to time. HereÆs my rating: 1. (5- Runs great, however, still can be much better) Is the Mass Effect like film grain an intended feature? No other issues to report. But considering: ------------------ System Information ------------------ Operating System: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit Processor: AMD Phenom(tm) 9350e Quad-Core Processor (4 CPUs), ~2.0GHz Memory: 4096MB RAM Available OS Memory: 4096MB RAM Page File: 2045MB used, 6143MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11 --------------- Display Devices --------------- Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 570 Manufacturer: NVIDIA Chip type: GeForce GTX 570 Display Memory: 3040 MB Dedicated Memory: 1248 MB Shared Memory: 1791 MB Current Mode: 1680 x 1050 (32 bit) (59Hz) I'd be surprised to have any...
2. (4- youÆre almost there) Lighting works much better than before, however, character still looks completely different (uglier) than when you look at it in the creator, all because of the way light/shadow on the face is drawn. Male animations run smoothly with no major issues, walking looks a bit awkward... but you lot working on it, right? Female walking still looks even weirder... I read the blog. Lots of items missing, but thatÆs bleeding obvious.
3. (3- Sooo much to do, so many moaning people who want to see it done ASAP) I have nothing constructive to say about the tutorial, so IÆll shut up. Not my kettle of fish. However.... You guys HAVE TO redo the hangar, fitting captains quarters around an old view only changing the angle you look at your ship is just going down the easy slope. There a few things I want to have when looking out the balcony. Pure aesthetics, I know, but thatÆs all Incarna is about, right? Here are some suggestions I have: òMake hangars a bit more confined space, like a dry dock of a sort where you can see: òCabling/corridors attached to the hull, recharging capacitors/shields, replenishing water /food supplies, (you know, go down to the docks and see what happens when ship is moored, now make a SF version of that commotion). Also: òMaintenance drones tinkering around the hull, some traffic above (or below for more dramatic experience), all this gives the appearance of some kind of life going on around the station. IsnÆt that what you guys keep on saying? ôEVE is realö? Make it look real! And last, but not least: òMoore the ship to the station! DonÆt let the damn thing float away, use clamps of some sort I still very much like the way Betty was docked to USM Auriga (Alien Resurrection) IMO it represents perfectly how ships could be docked inside minmattar stations. Using small thrusters to keep the ship in place is a no no. BIG problems if they fail in any way, station wide health and safety risk!
Considering we speak about single player captains quarters alone, the way you look at your ship is the only real issue I have, other than that, it looks awesome, looking forward to see final-ish product and the rest of that station. cheers

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) 4 for performance, running on a GTX260 with 4Gb system RAM and an AMD-64 6000+ dual core CPU. Everything seems to run smoothly aside from a few graphical bugs (see below). However, the client crashed when I got near the mirror.
2. Rate the overall performance Given the test nature of it's current iteration I'd say it handles rather well over all.
3. General feedback The new tutorial system is a huge improvement over the system that I used nearly 3 years ago. Small things like being outright told to always have a skill training is a great boost, something that alot of new players didn't really understand before. Overall, movement around the evironment is good but feels a little sluggish. This may be due to myself being used to RPG's like KotOR and ME where you're avatar bolts around at running speed. In addition, there seems to be a delay between telling you're character where to go and them acting upon it, again this may be mess being used to games where you're character can hurl about 180 mid-stride.
Graphical bugs: The most evident came before I'd even loaded the station environment, during character creation. For female characters hair models (that's aren't part of the character model) aren't rendered, leaving any character effectively bald with only the undertexture on their scalp. To clear up my terrible explaination, here is a screencap Missing hair
There is also red outline (for want of a better word) of what I assume is part of my character model floating in space (well, the station). Screencap here: Red Ghost
Up on the balcony, part of the scenary off to the side can disappear and reappear as the camera is moved about. --- There are two sides to the EVE community; those that scream for change and those that scream against it. Often they are the same person. |

2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale)(( a 3))
3. I think once all the slowness of the loading, walking is alittle slow for my opnion, lighting is better also. But when i logged in my avatars head was completely black iwth a white beard..... that was just odd. Also the camera was alittle odd there was alot of " static " just the look not the sound and all of a sudden out of the blue i heard " warp drive active " lol But other then some things on there that need to be fixed it's pretty good. thought it was kind of odd see'ing my ship way out far instead of up close tho -.-'

I just want to reiterate that the new White Noise, or Film Grain effect that is present in the Captains Quarters, NEED's a shut off feature. I don't know if its an intended or not but since it seems to appear across all pictures I've seen I'm guessing it is.
While I appreciate the effect for what it is, please add in a toggle option for in in the Interface. It's distracting an while not game braking, hampers my want to spend time in the Captain's Quarters, and it's further incarnations. EVE is a beautiful game, always has been. Please don't hamper that beauty with Film Grain effects, or atleast make it a toggle-able option.

Ok, my system specs. 3.2GHz Core 2 Quad 6Gig RAM GTX470 Eve graphic settings on HIGH, AA disabled, Shadows, Res. Cache, HDR, Depth Effect, Phy. Sim Cloth and Hair all enabled. Text quality High. Runs about 40-50FPS. No graphical glitches unless you go into char. creator and back to CQ where pop ups happened and eyebrows removed.
1. Graphical Quality: 4 (almost there, looking nice, wish I could see my Maelstrom from it). 2. Performance: 4 (Not totally bad framerate, pretty smooth and no jittery stuff) 3. Concept seems simple, I think it fits in the Eve world. This being the first step to third-person character gaming for EVE its going good. I don't think it will take away from anything. Would be cool to look at your ship and see drones or something doing maintenance work around the station or on your ship. Do we honestly need a trashbag in the Minnie CQ? Oh and the character hair is super-shiny.
Oh and I know you are working on it but make sure the lighting is the right color presented on the character model. That goes for the balcony and in front of the monitors in the CQ.
And I didn't notice any grain after boosting from low graphics to high graphics. ================================================= What is right is not always popular, and what is popular is not always right. |

Average GPU temp during test 66 Deg C Average GPU usage 66% (up to 70% when standing in front of mirror) Average Video memory usage 516 out of 1024 with 2 * AA
FPS Standing in quarters; 20 Walking; 15 to 20 Standing on the balcony; 20 (moving) to 30 (standing still)
The first tutorial window æO2: Captains Quarters walking inside your captains quartersÆ opens to short and you are unable to read the keys or lower text. A minor problem but confusing for a new user, the window needs to open longer lengthwise.
The Local/Corp/Constellation window, again opens to small and do we really need the Constellation window?
The stairs on the left of the balcony look more like a ladder and are far to steep for safety.
The scroll wheel seems to move sideways on a diagonal not in and out as it should.
The æSÆ key turns the character around not make it walk backwards as it should.
On my screen I had bad moirT patterns on the floor panels when facing in certain directions this was very hard on the eyes.
Sitting on the sofa my male characterÆs hands go through the lower part of his æGoldÆ patterned tunic.
Also his beard/moustache is white and not dark as it should be, no amount of tweaking with the settings changed this.
Walking speed for the female seemed about right but she was still a little æuprightÆ the male could do with a tad faster speed and both need a Jog speed button (please).
Playing with the many settings did not seem to give any overal increase in FPS except 'Shadows', turning them on killed my FPS to around 10.
The æStation AnnouncementsÆ were a nice touch (could add more) but I liked the station layout better in the FNA School Station than in the starter station.
In short; getting better but still needs work.

Im on a Mac, and although being unsupported in this build, still works a little. In a previous post I said most everything was black. I then tried it with all the graphics settings at their lowest, and everything became visible, actually allowing me to test a few things.
Speed, lag: 4 to 5. Was quite snappy for me
General: 2 due to you once again giving Mac users the short end.
Walking: The speed is an issue. When you want to do a long distance it seems too slow. When you want to adjust you position a little, its too fast. We need a way to walk at different speeds. Some walking in place happens when on the balcony at the edges.
Walking by double clicking: I do quite a bit of walking in place right after a double click. To really see this, double click on the floor a couple of meters behind yourself.
Stairs to the catwalk: Once going up them my foot got caught under a step, stopping me. Turning around, going back down, then back up fixed it. This seems to be a low probability event, I was unable to duplicate it.
Balcony: to the left is a little platform with steep steps leading down. I could not walk out onto this platform. But also if I raised the camera angle sufficiently, it disappears entirely.

Ha ha! You want unsupported? I'm running this under wine, on a gentoo-Linux box. I do the same for the TQ build, and it works just fine. So - for what it's worth - here's what I get when trying it out:
My setup: 4x2.5GHz Phenom CPU 4GB RAM nVidia GTX280 GPU, water-cooled (as is the CPU), so temp stats aren't relevant. HDD is RAID-5, so r/w performance is above-average. AA is not enabled on my build.
1. Graphics: rating: 3 FPS in space is steady at 60 with all effects on. FPS in-station is ~20 with all effects on, ~15 when moving, ~18 in front of the mirror. Shadows are not shaded: it's either lit, or black Textures don't load for the sofa, or many other interactables (undock button, fitting projector, etc)
2. Overall: rating: 4 UI is nicely intuitive, except for camera control
Comments: Aura sometimes gets stuck on her tutorials. She kept telling me to undock and start my mission long after I'd done so, completed the mission, and come back. Closing the tutorial and picking that stage manually fixed it. Without a mouse wheel (I have a trackball) I have no way to control the zoom in-station. Matching the camera controls to in-space controls (ie, adding the both-buttons state for controlling the camera zoom, rather than using that for movement) would help; better yet, allow mouse controls to be customized. Turrets do not have icons, and I could not drag the icon from my item hangar onto my ship in the fitting window. I could fit it with the right-click menu, however, and unfit it as well. Opening the turrets category in the market threw an exception. I'll assume that this is all due to the turret re-working, though. FPS remains too low during Incarna stages (character creation, in-station, etc). I have way more elements out in space, and FPS almost never drops below 60. Opening my journal produces an empty window, as does opening my wallet. Buttons for station services remain large, even when set to small. Even then (on TQ), they're too big. Can we get a "tiny" option? Also, yes please jogging mode (though the CQ isn't really a big enough space for this to matter yet).
That's it for now. Good work, CCP. Looking forward to this.

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale)
Framerate - 2 (15FPS Average @1920x1080 Medium Textures - get 45FPS in Space ) UI - 3 or 4 - Fitting panel took a bit to load up smoothly
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale)
Environment is a 5 Great job. Walking is a 2 - annoying and hard to work with - double-click mouse works great, but keybinds suck in actualizing my intentions. Camera Snapping is a 2 - I still find myself heavily struggling against the camera when it wants to snap to look at something. Very annoying - the snapping should be much "Softer" rubber-banding, not so tight on screens - also it never focuses on the center screen, always the side screens.
3. General feedback
I think this is a lot smoother, the camera noise is a nice touch, noticed it immediately.
The hologram looks great - turned around to see my Cynabal and cracked a smile.
Mirror looks great.
I noticed that the new platform has a "drop staircase" to take you to a lower section - I guess to get a different angle on your ship? very nice.
WISHLIST : 1. Switching "over the shoulder" sides - righty to lefty.
2. Closer Over the shoulder camera - I think we can get closer for the over the shoulder, we're still pretty far back when we zoom in on our characters, I'd like to be a tad closer for some camera angles.
3. A trash disposal - garbage laying around, really?! :) screenshot
BUG LIST : Opening fitting panel showed NO SHIP - screenshot I had a red outline of a body in my room - but my skin was on - screenshot
KNOWN Issues : No hair No stairs

Edited by: Gethis Stark on 21/05/2011 17:03:09 Found that the Constilation name was being overlaid with the Sov, Screenshot to be uploaded. Also unable to undock, unsure if this is intended as we are supposed to only be checking the in station behaviour, dont recall seeing anything to that effect. I was interested in the docking and undocking behaviour however. Overall looks pretty good, lowest FPS was about 27, most of the time it was hovering in the 40's. Also, i know im in a minnie station but seriously garbage bag by my door? Dang, Quaffe wil be raiding my room before i know it.
Overall, much more immersive feeling to the characters. I like t, camera angles bug me a bit and if we were moving out into the station proper i my get seriously narked by it. Otherpoints to note, pathfinding is buggy, clicking on a point would often cause my character to spin as it figured out how to get from point A to B.
Balcony view is good, looking forward to the fully skinned render.
Photo to be uploaded and then linked.
[Edit] It appears i cannot see everything in my items hanger?!? looking into it further, appers reproducable will bug report it later. Will get eve diagnostics on it first

So I relaunched adn got to the character recustomization. MAde a new character and tried to launch into Duality but only got a black screen. Relaunched and got into Duality CQ but with a black screen. I had all the graphic windows... Station info on the right, character info on the left, chat on the bottom left. But nothing else.. 1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale) 3. Much of the grafix is still buggy.. mirror flickering and the stairs down from platform where you look out and down vanished and came back at will.. unable to walk on it as well...
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale) 3. had around 40 to 55 fps... so not bad really.
3. General feedback
Can still use some work but looks good... noticed I will need to remake pilots a bit on some as they are not like they was made entirely. all in all a 3.... keep up the good work :) ------------------------ Pilot trader and trader. |

Ok... let's see 1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale) 4 - till it worked it was smooht
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale) 4
3. General feedback No hair... ok you've understood it already All my female characters have not eyebrows which make them look like aliens (somehow that's how jovians should look :) The red flickering bug close to the entrance of the quarters Now everytime i log in a get a black screen and nothing more. The hangar is vanished. Sigh :\ When i sit down on the sofa... i lose my boots/shoes. I mean it's ok i'm achura so probably it's ok to leave the shoes outside my quarters but you know... it happens also with gallentes :| Trying to use the new shirt (top) with my khanid character all the polygons of the avatar became black so that i could see only the shape and the white of the eyes. i can't see the ship docked anymore.. only the hologram on the deck. Pay attention with the tutorial, it's nice and all but there is a step where you're asked to open the agent panel... I was in an outpost so i couldn't go forward. Isn't there another ways to display tutorial tips? Those windows are too small and i had to scroll the text everytime. After the tutorial gave me the skill books... everything in my hangar disappeared.
More or less is all...

Another bit of general feedback:
while the sitting-down animation looks nice, all the other ones - touching the recruitment screen, plugging in a skill, hitting the undock whack-a-mole button (?), etc. - all look a bit spastic. If plugging in a skill is meant literally as plugging something in to your brain, shouldn't there be a socket somewhere for that? And shouldn't doing so maybe not involve having a mild seizure?
Lastly, as undocking presupposes re-entering one's pod - and that pod being installed into the active ship - shouldn't the undock process involve activating a pod bay somewhere? Say, on the balcony of the ship hangar? That seems a bit more realistic than whacking the Big Button on the balcony control panel. But then, I guess that would also involve getting naked before being immersed in one's pod, and nobody (?) wants to do that on an open balcony. I guess I'm thinking of those old Incarna animations from a couple years ago, where the first entry into meatspace involves being dumped out of the pod, toweling off, and getting dressed.

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale) 4 - getting 40fps in a 1920x1500 window, about 30 at 2560x1600. 16xAA can be selected without crashing the client but it isn't applied. If you have hair physics enabled the hair vanish, hair physics off and it will show up as expected. No UI lag
Hardware:
Intel E8400 4GB RAM Geforce GTX 580 3GB (can easily run 4 of these clients at 1920x1500)
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale) 5 - Smooth as butter
3. General feedback
The lightning needs a lot of work still inside the CQ. Also if you stand right next to a light source inside the CQ it will look great (like stand next to the protein delicacies facing the wall and spin the camera around). Now sit in the sofa and it's just ugly. Some parts of the bridge to the balcony has pretty ok light as of now.
Female Jin-Mei seems to have received a breast enlargements as the shirts all of a suden will poke out of the outer layer. The outer layer still matches the correct breast size.
There are geometry clipping issues, if you stand on the balcony on the left next to the new staircase, have the camera zoomed out max and slowly tilt the camera downwards the whole section with the stairs just vanish.
The holographic projector on the balcony is floating in the air, I guess it is supposed to be on the console.
The stairs leading to the balcony seems to be treated as a ramp and not stairs as the feet are randomly clipping badly.
I see you have fixed the issue where you could fall off the balcony.
I'm not sure why we have a garbage bag in the corner, considering pod pilots are so stupidly rich we could buy a nation or ten, I'm
sure we can afford to have garbage disposal units installed even in the most basic captain quarters.
You can't walk around in the nice tight skirts yet as they aren't calssified as "bottom".
Shouldn't the stool next to the bed be made out of a 425mm cartridge as per the fanfest demo in 2008? Also would be nice if you could lay down in the bed as well as sit on the stool.
The ash tray is just wrong.
That locked door is such a tease...
How about an option to not update the portrait just because you do a re-customization as you fancy a different pair of shoes for the evening?

My answers and Feedback
1. 4 Great
2. 4 Great
3. My suggestions are:- i) Players should be able customise the illumination lighting (colour and brightness) of their CQ to suit their individual mood with a light switch accessible close to the closed door located on right side of the hanger enterance. ii) The players character should be able to lay asleep on the bed and once does the window appears for the Jump clone facilities and or to change the status of player to afk. iii) Walking/ running sound effects as the players character moves in the CQs. iv) When player is standing at the Hanger balcony is able to see all the ships in the hanger that the character owns. The ship which is active be glowing (slowly pulsing).

Graphics performance was quite disappointing. I normally get 200 FPS on the low end while docked in a station. Sometimes up to 600 FPS. At best with Captain's Quarters I got 20 FPS. This is at 5120 x 1600 resolution (dual monitors). I turned graphics options down and still got around 20-25 FPS.
I do appreciate the camera offset option when my character is walking around. |

When I try to login in now it prompts me for character recustomization then hangs on that progress bar.
Edit: Resolved. Just declined recustomization.

#1
Framerate: (I give a 2) I was getting 20-31FPS maxed Settings. FPS didnt seem to change much between 2x AA and 16x. Coulndt really adjust other settings due to graphical issues like shader quality to Low = enviroment goes black all i can see is my toolbars UI Lag: (I give a 4) Didnt experience much lag with the UI though since its a fresh charecter i made I cant experiment with ships and stuff
#2 Overall Performance: (I give a 2)
#3 personal Thoughts: Although im not a fan of the Amarr the enviroment seemed fitting. obviously there are still bugs that need to be fixed, and graphical issues that will need to be tended to as mroe and more people get to test and different systems and cards are used. I wonder if we will get room service with hookers and beer

No UI lag but I were getting 14-20fps with max settings (without AA and at 1360X768). I don't see why this should occur with GTS 450 and AMD X4 635 considering I were playing witcher 2 in max settings without a hickup. I think there is an issue with graphics performance I can't understand why a simple room is so demanding on hardware.

I like the new filter, it makes graphics more realistic but it should be toned down a little bit. Lightning is really great also.

Edited by: Burhtun on 22/05/2011 00:25:18 Edited by: Burhtun on 22/05/2011 00:23:30 now that I've played with it a while,
Graphics: 4
Runs well on my hardware (listed in post above). At max settings at 1920 x 1080 my FPS ranges from 40-60, usually somewhere in the 50s. GPU heats up to 70C and gets my fan going full speed or close to it. Doesn't seem to make my card's fan as loud as the damn cloud sprites in complexes/missions though. When positioning the camera low to the ground and looking upwards, the ship hologram disappears. Same happens when rotating the camera; as the hologram approaches the edge of the view port, it blinks out of existence before it should. PI, Corp Recruitment, and Character Customization UIs loaded pretty quick. Agent Finder screen on table doesn't seem to work.
General: 4 Wish there was a way to lock the camera behind you so I don't have to keep repositioning it to look ahead of myself as I move around with WASD.
Animations are kind of wonky in spots. When reaching up to press the imaginary button on the screens, the character seems to have greased shoes and slides around on the floor. This animation is also used for the Agent Finder screen which doesn't make sense since its placed on a low table.
After sitting up from the couch I was unable to move via double clicking and had to use WASD to navigate away from the couch & table before double-click movement worked again. I could have sworn at one point I was able to just double click on the ground when sitting and my character would automatically undock from the couch. Now I seem to have to always right click and order him to dislodge his butt from the cushion. An extra two unnecessary clicks. Should be able to just double click on ground or use WASD to get up.
It is really easy to move the character around in such a way that he begins dancing in place.
In general things seem ok. Nothing horribly broken. Still not sure why my first character had so much trouble getting CQ to work, but this character works fine. Looking forward to content iterations.
Also, earlier when I was trying to get my first character to check out CQ, the whole screen was awash in film grain. Now with the character that works, it is only the holograms that have this effect. I'm guessing it is supposed to be this way but some people sound like they have it all over the screen. Yuk!

3. Mouse and keyboard control is a bit aggravating I found that i stuck to double clicking. Frame-rates dropped randomly standing still, and whenever idle it went below 40fps for me which is strange. Some of the lighting transitions where twitchy would flash a bit (Example when walking towards mirror in quarters there is a lighting threshold there). Low-sec is also an emergent sandbox, only itæs about 3 inches deep and full of cat poop. |

1. I'd give the graphics a 4.5 Runs at a pretty steady ~30 FPS with everything on. I'm sure the lighting is still under construction, but the ambient, indirect lighting needs work.
2. Overall performance is probably a 3.
3. It's cute how you guys pretend that you've never played any other third-person MMOs ever, but flip the mouse buttons. Left is for looking, right is for turning. And for ****'s sake, add a re-mappable auto-walk button. Character animations are better, but still a little wonky. Sometimes my avatar's arms will remain perfectly still while I'm walking around. I like the change to the wall monitors. They look good. And the added bits of trash around the place give it a lived-in feel.
Over all, pretty good. Add the ability to stay in your ship while docked. In fact, do it like that concept video. Also, reintroduce the pod room from the FF08 demo.

Edited by: ChrisTooFar on 22/05/2011 07:07:48 I noticed that the stairs to the left of the hanger platform area seems to disappear when the camera gets near them. Also... My character seems to lose a patch of his pants directly on the crack and well... yeah I didn't think this game was rated M lol :P I give the graphics a 3/5 because it would be neater if the hanger area had an animated rendition of the ship, like maybe with it floating around and actually moving a bit rather than a still shot. I give the overall rating a 3/5 also. The movement controls are extremely touchy and I believe that the right clicking function on all the tools needs to have a greater clicking area because there was some difficulty right clicking a tiny little spot on the agent finder thing and the ship hologram. I realize this was the point of the test and hope you can improve the camera and character controls before Incarna is released!

Took me a while to decipher the question somewhat acceptably, but I hope this helps: SiSi Launcher
Originally by: jhanby A big suggestion that I haven't seen would be to add a run key.
Only every fifth post :)
The reason stated for not implementing running is how it completely ruins the immersion when everyone is running, yet not in a hurry. This would/will be even more clear in a station with multiple people.
There isn't much functional difference between introducing a run key followed by increasing distances to be traversed, or avoiding a run key while keeping the currently cramped-by-design Captain's Quarters; you're not more than five steps away from anything anyway.
Not having everyone run around makes the whole thing more realistic, however.
If you have nothing urgent to do, you wouldn't run in real life (or at least I wouldn't). You certainly don't see everyone running around when you go to a city centre. If you are in a hurry in-game, just use the heads-up display.
Oh, and let me join the myriads of people disliking the mandatory trash, both in bag and litter form (cans, bottles, ashtray and what appears to be a cereal box). Littered rooms should be dependent on capsuleer personality, not station racial customs. |

1.) I give graphics performance 3.
I suffered no graphical lag, crashes or freezes (apart when trying to enter space which is a known issue). Minus because majority of long/medium hairstyles do not render. They show up as skintight basically. The amarr male longcoat makes most of the body invisible. In the left of the balcony there is a steel ladder (leading down from the balcony) that vanishes/appears depending on viewpoint. Mostly it does not render. The texture of the hangar below the balcony looks primitive due to being zoomed too close.
Minus because of the grainy effect on the entire screen, which makes the game look like 3d animations from late 90s. Other than that everything looked mostly ok, . The overall graphics experience is playable. There is no graphical lag even when most of my settings were set high.
2.) Overall performance is 4. There were couple small lag spikes but no repeatable situations that caused lag. The doubleclick movement does not work when youre between the table and the sofa which is the biggest issue that I encoutnered. Character doesnt get stuck cause you can still move with WSAD keys. Walking feels bit clunky with no strafe option (move sideways without turning), and the mousewheel zoom could be more refined.
3.) The tutorial itself seemed nice. The most glaring thing that I noticed was the rendering problems of hairstyles and longcoats, and the 'grainy film' effect on the entire screen. I really hope you get rid of the grainy effect before launch.. It makes the game look ancient. Rendering problems/clipping I have seen in other games, but never a grainy screen.
The movement should be refined a bit, the interaction of mouse-look and walking keys made to work more smoothly. It would be best that mouselook with for example left button would direct the characters walk where you are looking at without delay, and mouselook with the other button wouldnt affect walking direction, instead just rotating around the walking character. I think this is the best method of directing characters in other MMOs. Which button to use for which action can be debated.
Strafe sideways might require more animations but it would be nice addition too.
Bed could be a "log out" terminal, with a lay down animation added. And I wouldnt mind being able to sit on the couch. :)
I really hope you dont force the entrance to captains quarters at every dock.. There are certain situations where that would be extremely awkward, like fighting at the station.
EDIT: My dxdiag file can be found from here

2. Rate the overall performance 3 - loading times are still much longer than current "ship spinning" station environment
3. General feedback It looks much more like a finished product - the first public test felt like an alpha version There is some performance improvement felt already, but it's not as smoth as I'd like it to be. On a Core 2 Quad Q6600, 4 GB RAM and an EVGA GeForce 8800 GTS 512MB it really should run smoother.

Dear CCP: I have a good idea on how to improve the Fitting Window.
Please inspect this screenshot:
http://pozniak.pl/wp/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/2011.05.22.11.10.43.jpg
If the ship holo is somewhere in the middle of the screen, make the Fitting Window follow the holo, so it looks like the picture above. Also, the window interior, where the model is displayed, should be completely translucent. If the holo is not visible, just load the ship model as it is currently. ---

Graphics performance: 4 Overall performance: 2 General feedback: Minmatar station, i know, one should expect things to be a bit sewer-colored, but the character does imo get too much colored by that lighting, getting red-brown'ish instead of the scandinavian white it should be. I don't want to become gold-colored in amarr and grey-blue'ish in caldari/gallente either, btw.
The camera is still very much too close and it bumps into walls or reaches its limits all the time, i would like it much further away from the character.
Remove that ash tray from the table! Wall decorations in forms of quafe-cans and a cereal box.. i don't like that.
Holding down both mouse buttons in station moves the character, while in space (at least on TQ) it's used to zoom, so it's inconsequent. I hope it will be changed to zoom in stations also and that you only move with keys instead, and i would prefer the arrow keys.
With a machariel or other similar size ships, i still see only 1/4 of the ship. The rattlesnake was missing its thrusters, just a big square hole where they used to be.
The ship model on table and balcony don't impress at all. I don't even get why there at all must be a ship model on the balcony, as you can anyway click on your ship there. Just make it so smaller ships are parked closer to CQ so it's possible to see them.
When standing on the balcony there's a stair on the left side which is unfortunately inaccessible, but when standing next to it and moving the camera around, the stair vanishes periodically, depending on camera angle.
I don't like recruitment getting so much focus with its own screen in CQ, it should at least not appear until the player have completed all tutorials, and it should be possible to permanently hide it. It should imo also be hidden by default to any player who's already in a player-run corp. The PI screen should likewise not appear until the player have PI set up. |

Graphics performance: 3.
Looks good but I get some fuzziness in the darker areas.
Overall performance: 3.
It has potential.
Feedback:
The UI needs a way to show the areas you can interact with. Have the mouse cursor change, glow, the object glow or have a red/blue hue to show it can be interacted with. At the moment you need to right-click everything that looks suspicious to find out. Speaking of which the tutorial could mention how to interact in station.
I couldn't find the spot that let me continue the tutorial when I needed to move to the balcony to undock.
Aura needs to speak louder. The music drowns her voice easily.
Aura also needs to identify herself. At the moment she says "contact me via the agents menu". I doubt that new players know who Aura is. The picture might help when she gets it, but having Aura tell her name wouldn't hurt.
The turrets are broken at the moment, you cannot view their info and undocking makes you stuck. Bugreported.
Alt-tabbing in the loading phase might make the CQ not load correctly. Bugreported.

Graphics Performance: 1/5
Overall Performance: 1/5
General Feedback:
Playing on a Medion 96970, which has a GeForce 9300M S. This machine runs EVE at a playable framerate with shadows turned off, depth effects turned off, low shader, medium textures.
With all these settings the same as for the Tranquility build, CQ is unplayable - it has now taken 15 minutes to render the captains quarters. I get about 1.5 fps. The UI lag is so bad that the dialog boxes for setting things like shader level, texture detail etc, will activate based on where the mouse pointer was fifteen seconds ago.
Sitting on the sofa or standing up off the sofa has the interesting artefact of rendering one frame (which for me lasts about half a second) of the character standing up (when she has finished sitting down) or sitting down (when she has finished standing up).
It takes about two to three seconds for the character to start moving once I press a movement key. It takes a similar amount of time to acknowledge that I have released the key, which means that movement occurs in about three to five second bursts. If I make the mistake of holding the mouse button down, the character gets confused and starts spinning on the spot.

Edited by: Aineko Macx on 22/05/2011 14:26:37 1) Graphics Performance: 1/5 Running on a C2D 2.66Ghz, 6GB RAM, HD3580, Win7 64bit the performance is abysmal eve on low resolution and settings, getting around 10fps.
2) Overall Performance: 1/5 Loading is slow and glitchy. In recent builds (also on TQ) even the char creator got much slower on updates, for instance, selecting a different hair/accessory model freezes for 5-10 seconds.
3) The graphics are full of artifacts, the shadows are just made of noise gradients, lots of flickering, shimmering and moire effects. The lighting is broken on some settings, i.e. the CQ is basically dark except for global lighting. With "working" lighting/shadowing the brightness levels of the chars face clips badly in various spots, or it looks like a monster. The camera is still nauseating, with no movement smoothing, is claustrophobically glued to the char and doesn't help at all trying to get an overview of the location the char is in. You really should look to great implementations of third person camera for inspiration, Silent Hill comes to mind, or even Tomb Raider or Splinter Cell... The controls are still dreadfully clumsy and everything is endlessly ineffective.
I'm hating it. ________________________ CCP: Where fixing bugs is a luxury, not an obligation. |

OK. great job CCP. Love what has been so far but there are several things to be changed and/or fixed but what good game doesn't right? I will list off my hardware specs first:
i3 3.6GHz processor 6 GB DDR3 RAM ATI Radeon 4670 HD HIS graphics card Samsung SyncMaster P2250 LCD Monitor
EVE settings: anti-aliasing Disabled Post-processing None Shader Quality High Texture Quality High LOD Quality High Interior Quality Medium Character Quality High (simulated cloth) Shadows Enabled All Effects Enable
Alright lets dive in.
1. Here I will assess the Graphical component of the area. Several known issues as well as some issues that are probably due to mediocre hardware are as follows: When first loading the game, after the window in the center of the screen has disappeared, the NeoCOM, Station Information and chat window are the only thing presently visible. You can left click and drag in the window and the lighting on the NeoCOM, station info and chat alter however the visuals are still black. This is running things on the highest quality. Now to make things appear, I changed the settings for the Captain Quarters to medium and I am able to see it normally but there are black mesh lines all over the place. When the character is on the balcony overlooking the open area, when you walk to the left to the stair case and aim the camera to look down, the stair case disappears and there is an invisible wall before it. My thoughts would be to move the invisible wall to the bottom of the landing to add the more realistic effect or put a railing where the wall is to justify the placement.
Just before entering the actual living area, the landing, rails, 3 step case and walls do not appear textured. I know they are because when the camera is angled just right, you can see the texture but just walking down normally makes these disappears.
Alot of the walls when walking around, there are black mesh on them and it moves when you move the camera. This could be due to hardware.
Where to give credit? Excellent job on the mirror, I notice almost no change in scenery and character in the reflection, all the furniture looks good with the exception of the bed. It appears with a black mesh on top of it. Rather if it is on purpose or not, it is displeasing to the eye.
When I open the Character sheet, the text info for background and date created are stringed together, one overlapping another. It also states this " ui_generic_charac " where the background is suppose to be. Also, the sovereignty and constellation text in the main window are overlapping one another.
When overlooking the open ship area, the holograph of the ship is hovering. Not good. Easily fixed by moving it on top of the 'desk' if that is what it is called.
Before entering the living area there are red lights on the floor, one on either side of the doorway but no light bulb or visual light source emitting them. Another thing to consider is that it does not affect the character when you walk on them. For example, the light does not cast on the character.a
That is it for the graphical component. I am sure there is more but when they are found, they will be posted here :P
Something I think should be considered is more research into how people actually move within a space. When walking around, the arms are stiff still but only move at the shoulder. It looks like they have no elbows or anything. I would suggest more free movement of the arms, examine how people's arms move when they walk, both male and female.
The texture detail in the ship hangar area is not the greatest either. Attention to detail in every aspect is needed for this specific type of project.

1. rating: 3 Windows7 on an Intel Core 2 Quad 2.33 Ghz with 6 GB ram with a radeon HD 4300/4500 series graphic card.
high settings, the fps is between 6 and 7.5 low settings, the fps is between 9 and 12 windowed mode with all low settings the fps is between 15 and 25, staying around 20
in windowed mode hair has no pigment (white, though it's set to black)
In full screen mode hair is correctly black, but is a crew cut (instead of the long hair setting) on the female character.
The male character's hair is the correct style in either mode, but is still white in the windowed mode.
The UI seems to work correctly.
2. rating: 4
A lot of the bugs seem to have been worked out. It's headed in a great direction.
3. The graphics and art direction generally look stellar. The mood, the style, etc is great. The lighting is much improved.
Not a fan of the trash though. If every minmatar room for every station on every character has the same trash laying in the same places in their room, it takes away from the immersion and realism. It makes some good sense that the room layouts would be the same (couch/tv position, etc.) in that it's a generic room for capsuleers to arrive at, but it's strange that every station would have an ocd janitor clone that places trash strategically in the same spots in everyone's room. Also, items in the room that feel dynamic (soda cans, trash bags) but can't be moved physically detract from the feeling of control and ownership of one's space. If it was an npc's room that you were visiting, to help with staging perception of the npc's personal habits, or a personal room you set up that way, it would seem okay to have random items strewn about, but it doesn't make sense for a generic docking room to have static trash or items placed in a very personal way, but that you can't interact with and is the same station to station.
If it's a way of setting the tone for the minmatar areas (although I wouldn't think a vast, powerful and expensive space station for any of the 4 races, let alone a "proud" race would let trash bags laying about. Even if they are less wealthy and don't have the materials and engineering to make a shiny station: that's fine, but poverty doesn't equate to being slovenly) it would at least make more sense if the trash was in the hallway areas, which gets rid of the strange identical rooms problem for immersion's sake. Okay, end rant! The mood, tone, and art is otherwise very awesome.

now im not hardcore reviewer of these kinda things....so i guess i could give you the eve lover's laymen review lol
firstly, it is a good improvement on the last build for sure. liking the extra little features that have been put in, include the WIP on the mirror...made me giggle :P
but, seriously, really enjoying it. i only found a couple of little problems. im some occasions, the camera can let you down a bit....which i guess will work out in time, but the other thing i had a problem with was my hair. the toon that i am using for this test is a new toon i made through duality. he is amarr and has longer hair. in the last build....the hair was fine, and thick and wavy like a gorgeous scandanavian lady :D but now...its all gone. sure, the colour black is there to say how much of the head it would be one...but there is no length at all....it is also absent when i tried to refresh it in the character creator. i did however find a constant in this pickle. whenever i would choose a short hair style...or the david beckham mohawk one....it was fine, the texture and the model loaded fine. but...whenever i went for the long hair with either the side parting, or the middle parting...all i got was a colour block.
dont know if that helps to narrow it down at all for you guys at CCP, hope so. cos in the last build, this wasnt a problem, and it appears to have just snuck in the back door there lol. and i miss my luscious locks :P
i gotta say, i dont know what the problem is with the keyboard and mouse some people are on about. i used WSAD and held the left cick for the majority of my steering, ran nice and smooth :D
hope my feedback has helped a bit in the ever ongoing journey from space to stations :D
P.S on a tech level my fps was between 20 and 40 throughout the test.....thats on 1920x1080 with 4 antialiasing, and HIGH on everything that has the option. also full cloth and hair simulation too. full post processing...basically, everything is ON and on HIGH! lol anyway...compared to TQ which i get a fluid 60fps with the same settings...thats quite a hit. i understand though that there are a number of things to iron out and it may have something to do with the "enlighten" engine....assuming that has been implemented in this of course. its some awesome tech so no wonder there is a demand on the hardware :D
my system spec is as follows
Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit Intel Core Quad Q6600 2.4GHz 4 GB of RAM (only about 3.5 used cos 32bit sucks the meat rod of nature" nvidia 8800GTS 512mb all displayed at 1920 x 1080 with 4x anti aliasing and all the trimmed cranked to 11!
im not sure what else i should put in here....so that is all :D -Dragon

Not to be a jerk here, but you should have seen this coming a mile away. Incarnia is going to murder the PC's currently on the "low-end" of the Eve market, it shouldn't be any surprise that the first environments they release kill your PC. (We've known this since they first started showing pics of the CC)
Will they improve performance? Sure, there's still a long way to go before this is live on TQ. However, even ninja coders with Quaffee flavoured Coffee can't defy the laws of performance.
It would be funny though if on launch day everyone is lagging so hard they couldn't undock. Now it can be like Jita in EVERY system!

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) 2.5
2. Rate the overall performance 2.5
3. General feedback
- Double click movement - Feels really unreliable and works weird, especially if the character can't walk to the wanted location in a straight line. Anything more complicated than a straight line and the character starts to get stuck on the door edges, furniture and similar.
- Character speed - The movement looks awesome, the gestures and walking in general is great, but it's too slow.
- Zoom - Feels a bit constrained, especially when you zoom and get the 'over-the-shoulder' look. Walking in a straight line with the camera zoomed in can be a challenge, didn't know where to 'aim' at first.
- Right click + camera - at the moment, camera rotation has the same behavior when either mouse button is pressed and dragged - it rotates. It would be nice to have the same right-click behavior as in space.

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) 3 (15-20fps with all settings high with no lag, old hardware) Win7/64, 8800GT, 3G RAM, pair of 5 year old Xeons
2. Rate the overall performance 4 (wouldn't have guessed framerate was low until I turned on monitor; at current walking speeds, all was smooth)
3. General feedback * Had a graphics glitch I couldn't reproduce where the stairway down from the balcony disappeared and re-appeared depending on camera angle or something. * The initial camera view on a new character was rediculous. Asking a new player to start walking around with WASD when they're zoomed in on a wall/corner is fail. * UI: Players should be told they need to specifically click on the 3D environment before using WASD. Detecting repeat w's in chat might help. * UI: Noticed holding both mouse buttons walks forward. Love that. Would be better if it was more forgiving - holding right buttton before left doesn't work b/c it doesn't make the 3D environment active I think. Not sure what side effects that change might have as far as interrupting chat during combat however. * Tutorial: Starts on tutorial #2. Tutorial #1 is where it is stated that it is Aura giving the instructions, which is skipped. When asked to start a convo with the agent interface, the new player will not know to choose Aura unless this is changed. * Tutorial: Some parts seem to imply that we've just been cloned for the first time, which shouldn't be the case. It's my understanding that our characters begin after recieving their capsuleer augmentations. I suspect some players may appreciate the significance of getting podded for the first time, or of escaping it so far.

Tearing my hair out, been trying all weekend to log in and have a look at the CQ to no avail. I think I've followed the instructions to the letter, but it keeps telling me the following on the login screen:
Username: ******* Server: Test Server (duality) Password: ******* Status: Incompatible (release) I'm on Version: 6.44.259851 which I believe is the correct one.
I have tried patching manually many times but as I'm on the newest it won't patch, I have also downloaded the entire build twice and tried fresh. It doestn't seem that i'm doing anything wrong the shortcut has been edited correctly:
"C:\Users\********\Desktop\Eve Test\eve.exe" /server:duality
If anyone could point out the probably obvious thing I'm missing I'll be really grateful :)

Graphics and overall: 4. Performance seemed fine: no significant lag with all the options turned up (Nvidia GTS 250/win xp). UI seemed to pop up and respond very quickly.
General Impressions: Overall, it looks pretty cool. As others have mentioned, ship scale in the hanger seems small and unimpressive and not as awe-inspiring as one would hope (my noob-ship gets lost in the background ).
My biggest issue is with character and camera control. My personal preference would be (at least an option for) the camera to auto-follow behind your toon when you begin walking with the W-key. Holding the two mouse buttons kind of does this but it seems clunky and tedious. Plus it's easier to drink while navigating by keyboard.

They have an impossible task ahead of them if they are going to keep their promise that current dock/undock times will not be affected by CQ/Incarna.
What we should have is the current station environment, with the option of leaving the ship. I'd put up with 3-5 fps with half-second UI lag, if CQ was optional - at least it's not space :)
I can play Portal and Halflife on this system, why is one room causing this much lag? Perhaps CCP is so intent on reinventing the wheel from scratch they've decided to start with a square stone and chip away the pieces that don't roll smoothly?
The message this sends me is, "either you spend the money on a new computer just to play EVE, or you quit."

Edited by: Fred Kyong on 23/05/2011 04:27:04 Most worked well so far-
I had my graphic settings to the highest and just 4x anti aliasing.
-Character has no hair, but I think this is well known already -Walking to the ship hangar, at the end the char kept walking even standing and the fitting controls. Did not get a menu for fittings or cargo. I also missed to zoom in on my ship sitting at the dock (e.g. with the mouse wheel).
Some graphics from the station (lights on street) where blurry.
-Character animations (looking at fingernails), walking was fine -At CQ there are some blurry red controls/ lights at the wall. I do not like blurry images, but we already have them in the real game on some ships (lights/ windows/ Pos structures). No idea this will improve...
Undocking is tricky! You will get a black screen! I used "Shift" and "Backspace" to get out of this black screen. Then the ship was moving, I could see the ship flying away from the station. But I could not take any control of the ship. While pressing "ESC" I could gain control of the ship.
I was jumping from Jita to Amarr and back again. All went fine. I think the graphics in space improved? Looked great, even some new jump gates I suppose?
The turrets on my ship where white, had no textures. But I can get the picture. I think they will look nice. Much better as the stuff we have now. Please CCP, do not forget to keep the scale of the guns abit in proportion! Right now in the game they are sometime way OFF SCALE!
Back to CQ: The bed had no function (sit, lay or something). The couch or sofa showed a little menu such as "sit" or so. But did not work for me.
The screens on the walls are nice even they had no function for me yet.
I don¦t know yet how it can be done (maybe later?) but I miss/ or would like to personalize my CQ abit later. Maybe with some screen shots of the game... in a frame... so I can hang it on my walls? Putting some of my cargo on the table (like tobacco, spirits, quafe...) what else :)
Also a file cabinet would be fine I can store/view my Blueprints, or blueprint copies... Something like that; or a dresser where all my characters cloth is stored...
Looking forward to see more :)
Keep it rolling! AWESOME work!

Server is still up.
Use the duality installer linked in the topic page. I also thought I only needed to change the shortcut in my singularity install, I was wrong. Use the installer (install in separate irectory from your normal game install! (also from singuliarty install I think)) and then make a shortcut with "/server:duality".

Edited by: SaschaS on 23/05/2011 07:18:45 ~ 1. 1.5, allmost unplayable fps like bad drawn flip book in slow motion, regardless the quality settings from very high to lowest the same speed, just in lowest i had hair assets but in white, in highest i was a coloured skinhead, unfortuantly i tried to undock, so i stuck :) Hardware: Intel Core 2 Duo 2*2400 MHz NVidia 8400 GS Dual Monitor (2560*968 px fixed window) same resolution where i play eve now each day without problems Driver: last available stable from NVidia.
~ 2. 2.5, walking looks fancy, more like some kind of weird moonwalk. walking does not stop, char walks to position turns arround walks back turns again... while walking to the balcony feets get lost because they are under the floor.
~ 3. well i would like to use CQ and WOS but if the performance does not better significant i please you to build in an option to play eve without it!!! I think the "second life" part of EVE should not need more time to play than the main action, also i think the "need for speed" part of all former efforts to make eve better would look a bit absurd if i for example need more time to load screens than to talk with an agent and accept a mission. In case of ALL(shader, texture, interieur, simple hair / cloth, low detail chars...) quality changes did not significant change the speed fo me, i would say there are way tooo many triangles to be drawn or the engine is just not made for it, maybe it is just the direct x version which my graphic card dan use just not fast enough.
May i am the only one with an 3 or 4 year old graphic card or the only one use to have such a card and play on dual display.
Anyway i would like to play eve it would be some kind of stupid if the polish for the car is more expensive than the car itself.

3: I really hope that the interaction possibilities of Captains Quarters is more than not integrated into this version, since I simply cannot find anything useful about it right now. What I would suggest is that the UI for the Screens you have there should pop out when you get near of them with the camera zooming on to them when I actually start interacting with those. I can't lay down on my bed and undressing doesn't work as well :P Let's just say I wait for more tests about this, since this seems really only to be a perf test and nothing else.
Sorry if this sounds some kind of harsh, but I expected to see more than this, besides as I said, I'm not sure at all if this should be more than a performance test or not. If anybody read this, please answer to my guess.
Thank you.
Greetings,
Ravior

My computer was purchased just under a year ago, not the best graphics card, but can just about run one client on max graphics with little lag. Turning down all the graphics CQ takes nearly 4 minutes to load all the textures.
This needs to be optional like how they showed in the 2010 Fanfest where you clicked a button to get out of your ship.

1. Double-click move is BAD. 2. Wall screens are too high on the walls. No way in reality you'd place them that high for personal use, especially if it's touch-screens (which I presume they are). 3. Action objects aren't highlighted in any way. If that's about "brackets" mentioned earlier, it's fine, but I'd really prefer them to be highlighted in-place. An edge glow, an intense colorization, basically anything that is obvious but also non-disruptive to the whole experience. 4. I do hope you have good idea about the term "Geodata", if not - ask me. I'l tell you what it means and how to apply it to the server. Else the issues mentioned in thread already (constant walking in place) will never stop from happening. 5. (Carbon UI) The whole UI is still hardly responsive to the mouse movements. To get from one UI container to the action in another requires two clicks in many cases. And mouse hardly noticing context change before you stick it's nose into it. (I mean, click the button.) -- Thanks CCP for cu |

Ok ok ok sooo :
- very nice interior. playing around thrills me i think i'll sell all my ships and open a strip-club in jita.
- Graphical Performance 3.5/5. 1900*1200 full detail at 30-50fps. With dual char, it's 20fps, largely playable, considering the high degree of detail and this new promizing 3d engine) no bugs, unless some of the walls not rendered and some pixels around meaning a unrendered shadow. Moreover changing screen res brings some graphics glitches ;)
4 - Overall Perf : ? i already said it's very nice... ok 4/5 here your score, no memory leak, fast loading (not longer than actually) just a slow world around.
5 - feedback : you really should tell us what YOU wanna do with this kinda game? so we could provides more suggestion in the right way ;) will be be a 3rd Person ..Walker? ZQSD (or WASD) is so oooooollld walking mechanic... be kind, and smart, use like others, implent the strafe walking otherwise when (i wish) you'll introduce the Running (20x) skill, we'll walk like R-O-B-O-T. front-front-left-front-autodestruct. also, right click should be the turning function, not left click ;) i know it's not a fps, but like this you'll see 90% players running through walls... not fun
i understand the easyness to click to move, but eve definitely should not be a point and click game, stay focus !
that said, it misses the ISR (InterStellarRadio) with some nice music and some random videos showing latest invasion news. ;)
you definitely need to do something about the will to reach CQ. why it is better than staying in our ships? great work!

As an addendum, I forgot to ask: Could you guys consider having two graphics settings in graphics options? One for settings while in CQ and one for in space? My computer can handle decent settings in space that it can't handle while in CQ. I enjoy seeing the detailed space ships in space, and getting less of a headache from reduced fps in CQ, but it would take away from the experience to have to change settings each time i swap.

ccp you guys doing a very good job here. Never see a 3d game with a mirror.
intel core i7 cpu x980 3.33 ghz and 6 gb ram. type system 64 bits. I have 2x nvidia geforce gtx 580 windows 7
most of the bugs I've found are all reported. When i run the graphics more then 5040x1050 totale on 3 screens the game stop and i get the sign "eve.exe isn't working" That happend when i start walking in the CQ. Also happen on my way to the hanger. All graphics running on highest position. Second bug that i found is. When i on the balcony in the hanger and i zoom out and look from above in the direction of the stairs the stairs disappear. Third bug. When i go to desplay graphics and set interior quality lower then high the CQ disappear and i am standing in the hanger and can't move. I think you guyss still working on that.
Keep it up

My characters have no hair when I turn on physically simulated cloth and hair. The textures for my character's skin and cloths turn completely black when I change the clothing or hair styles.
Other then those two things, my complaints are similar to what everyone else is saying.
There have been major improvements since the first test, and it's good to see that you're making progress. Unlike many of the bitter old vets, I am actually looking forward to CQ and I am glad that CCP is working on it.
Having said that, I would also like to reiterate that I think this feature should be optional. My desktop has an Nvidia 570 graphics card and is great for cutting edge graphics, but my crap top, which currently runs eve just fine, wouldn't stand a chance running CQ. There are also many other players who's best computers won't be able to handle CQ. I can't understand why CCP would want to abandon those players. From a business perspective, it just seems flat out stupid to me and I can't understand why they would want to make CQ mandatory.
I know everyone else has already said this a million times, but the message STILL does not seem to be sinking in. So, I'm just saying AGAIN to be one more voice in the crowd.

1. Graphics Performance 1/5
Still heavily bugged on my graphics card. Here's my DXDiag.
Athlon 64 3700+ 2gb DDR400 Radeon HD3850 AGP 8x
Yeah it's an old PC, but I can run everything shader 3.0 without crazy graphical glitches like this.
Screenshots: High Interior Detail Medium Interior Detail Low Interior Detail Back to High Interior Detail
2. Overall Performance 1/5
3. General Feedback Still having the same graphical issues with CQ that I had the first time. As for walking around, the speed at which the character walks can be somewhat annoying, a sprint button would be a welcome addition.
I still have high hopes for CQ improving the new player experience, but if I can't run it on my current computer (which runs EVE at max graphical settings the majority of the time), you're probably going to leave out a whole bunch of folks with somewhat older midrange graphics cards.

Graphics Performance: 3
The CQ Seemed a touch slow, though not out of line for a high detail MMO on high settings. Was getting about 17-20 fps looking at things in the CQ. Camera controls seemed fine for me.
Overall Performance: 3
Bringing up the fitting screen seemed noticeably slower than on tranquility.
-- My biggest problem was on initial login the lighting was almost unusably dark. I discovered if I minimized and re-maximized it would reset the gamma enough that I could see the floor. Though when I quit the game (instead of logging out) my desktop's gamma was now very low.
Also while walking back from the end of the balcony toward the room, the smooth white walls developed some rather interesting moire patterns.
I believe I was using "high settings" for the graphics drop downs, and cache & HDR were both off.

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc)
4
2. Rate the overall performance
4
3. General feedback In terms of technical problems I encountered very few to no glitches. I ran several chars and several resolutions up to the highest with no negative effect. This surprised me somewhat and I decided to do a little walking etc.
Some of the lighting and textures obviously are fillers so I will not go into that. What is annoying though is the lack of interfacing with the environement. Interfaces built in walls cannot be read (so shouldn't be there) ashtray and garbagebins, bottles, etc cannot be manipulated (so shouldn't be there).
Basicly I would like to see less 'fluffy' stuff lying around you can't touch and more stuff you can interact with. If there is a bottle (not saying there has to be) or an interface anywhere on the well I should be able to interact with it at least marginally.
The thing that disturbs me most is the big "undock" button on the gantry. What is that supposed to do? From the video's shown so far we have some sort of "unpod" chamber. That is where we should have to go to interact with ships and pod. The gantry should be eyecandy for shipspinning (and perhaps later a lookout over the stationsactivities?).
In short it needs more of "cowbell Talonclark's" input and ideas and more spacesim realism and less ""earth and beyondness". ------------------------------------------------- A friend of death, a brother of luck and a son of a *****

Quote: 1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale)
Framerate=4 (30-45+ fps). No probs on highest settings on my NVidia 460 GTX. UI=3 : A bit "tricky" with the camera, it somtimes "zooms in" extremely when you rotate camera around toon when close to walls etc. Using context menues sabotages the "immersion" imho! Lag=5. No lag! Total=4
Quote: 2. Rate the overall performance
4
Quote: 3. General feedback
The ships are waaaaaay down the drain! You can hardly see them unless you zoom out from your toon.
The way the ships "materialize" does not add to the "immersion effect". The technology behind one ship just disappearing in front of your eyes, and another materializing just as suddenly leaves you in utter awe! Something for Joe Labero (a RL magician who makes RL airplanes disappear etc.) Srsl CCP, the ships should be "floating" into position or elevated up through the "floor" or something if you are looking for immersion effect with walking-in-stations/CQ!
I tried the UI for the character recreator in the "Mirror". After that a strange red blinking volume appeared in the exit to the balcony. It seemed to me to be a lighting mask or similar? Could not recreate the error and have no logs unfortunately.
Other things to improve are the ambient sounds and the music. That ol' EVE-soundtrack is worn out by now ;-)
In all, I'd say you have come somewhat along the road to completion since last pre-release, but you still have a LOT of work ahead of you to get this in a releasable state! Keep up the good work CCP!

I think that graphics are at 4. Performance is at 4.
Overall impression is at 2. Minmatar CQ is too dark, barely any light sources. I had 20-30 FPS most of the time, outside the station I get 60 FPS. It doesn't feel right. Camera is uneasy. View point is somewhere behind character's back, some strange angle. Half the time I don't see what's ahead other than characters chest/back.
If you want to learn 3rd person camera try Hitman Codename 47 - the camera does the right things there.

That card should run Battlefield Bad Company 2 at that framerate (@ 1920x1200, 4AA, 8AF, High Quality, DX10).
People really need to get some perspective before doing their ratings. On a scale of 1-5 that's a solid 1 for the kind of environment and graphics settings available. ...

2. Rate the overall performance (3 out of 5)
3. General feedback Frame rate has improved a bit as I didn't notice any drop in FPS when transitioning from the CQ to the walkway. The user interface should be a little less cumbersome. It feels like the UI is in the way when I try to interact with the environment. Also, what's up with the grainy picture? The environment has improved considerably such as lighting and the mirror and I like how my avatar is no longer stuck between the desk and sofa, but the image looks a bit grainy. I guess it will be fixed anyways before Incarna is released. After all, this is still a test version.

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale) 1 - even with everything set to low, only getting 4fps, which is not much better than when set to medium.
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale) 1 - takes far too long to load - both the game at start-up, and then loading CQ - which takes several minutes. Once loaded is extremely sluggish.
3. General feedback At the medium settings lighting levels are no better than in previous test - far too dark to see anything. Switching to low it is a lot better, but still a lot darker than the screen shots others are posting. The low frame rate makes it just about impossible as a living environment. Really needs an option to stay in ship when docked, otherwise I can see many new players giving up and not giving the game a chance.

I'm buying a Macbook Air 13" next month. I'll make sure I order it with 4Gb and with enough hard disk space (ok flash ram space) for Windows 7 to be installed, on which will go two installs of EVE (one for each account).
My question to those trialling Incarna is... has anyone tested it on the current or recent MacBook Airs? (the ones with the NVIDIA GeForce 320M graphics processor). Is it enough to run the game in a satisfactory manner? I would probably run it with the graphics turned down and with a fan management program running to keep the machine cool.

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale) Well, 1 to 2.5, depending on machine type. Laptop vs desktop.
2. Rate the overall performance. (1-5 scale) Again, 1 to 2.5, depending on machine type. Laptop vs desktop.
3. General feedback. There's something either wierd or disturbing with the GPU programming. It should not make such a difference whether it is running off a desktop GPU or a mobility GPU of the same series and type. Had a few runs at pretty decent setups, but that is worrying (especially since so many folks run EVE on notebooks). Even with alternating detail settings the differences in graphics and overall performance remain.
It's nice to see touches to make the quarters look more human, but there should be choices in that. I'd never leave my quarters a mess

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale) 1 Even using all settings on Low, having everything the lowest it can go (no shadows no hdr etc). Everything is black, loading takes minutes, everything stutters. Framerate, between 1 and 3 FPS
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale) 1 Utterly unplayable. On TQ I get about 60 FPS in every situation, except some Supercap blob zoomed in, yet on Duality in station it hovers between 1 and 3 FPS. Moving your avatar (that doesn't show, model is missing or something) is impossible, not only can't you see anything, but due to the low FPS you keep stuttering in some general direction you clicked or walked, making it impossible to go were you want to go.
3. General feedback
General system Specs:
CPU: Amd Athlon 64 3500+ GPU: Nvidia GeForce 6800GS RAM: 1GB
If this goes to Launch, without option to turn it off, Low spec users have to unsub, or not dock anymore since the game inside stations isn't playable, while in space I somehow manage to get 60+ FPS. On a different note, my avatar model didn't show.
Worst. feature. ever.

i wish they would put a console in the hanger, or the quarters that would allow you see who, and whats going on out side the station. ive lost alot of ships and pods by a group of pirates tanking the turrets waiting for some one to exit the station. something like the overview that would tell you who is outside and if they're aggressive (yellow) or wanted (red), as well as if any pod killing has happened within the last hour. and if this is too much to ask then at the very least the use of the dscanner in the hanger.
Please?

Rate = 4
No performance issue, no lag, graphics is awsome ;)
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale)
rate = 3
All the environment is ok
3. General feedback
Average 45 fps, all graphics at maximum, antialiasing X4, very happy to finaly test wos, enjoyable experience ;) the deplacement is still buggy, need adjustment. Need more environment interaction.
playing for 40 minutes with no crash or major bug.
Keep going ccp, you're on the good road :)

Define "satisfactory"à
It runs the game, and you can fly around, and even use the character designer at a decent pace if you pull the quality down. It does heat up, but it seems to survive (much better than the 1st-gen Airs, which were iffy beyond a 10-minute dash to update skills and market orders). All of this under OSX, though ù no idea how it will do with Win7 installed. Also, no idea how it will handle Incarna since we haven't been able to test it yet, but it should work if the chargen is any indication.
I'd stay away from anything that requires performance, be it combat or missions, but beyond that, it will survive. ùùù ôIf you're not willing to fight for what you have in ≡v≡à you don't deserve it, and you will lose it.ö ù Karath Piki |

Best of luck. I predict many a late night, a still unfinished implementation upon release and LOADS of angry customers!
Issues: Framerate, Grain, Undocking, Hair, Ramps, UI, skin, only one of four races implemented, ridiculous autopathing, WASD seemingly do nothing, camera is centred two feet to the left regardless of options, takes around a minute to load... And that was only from ****ing around for a few minutes!
No wonder you didn't try and implement the full station release from the get go ahaha

I initially had the same problem. Then I noticed it was trying to connect to the wrong server. Somewhere there are instructions for how to fix that, you got to manually edit a file in the prefs folder.
But for me downloading the full client, fixing the prefs folder got me on duci. Then to see CQ I had to set all the graphics to low. Even then its highly broken on the Mac, you can walk about, but no buttons or windows are visible.

System: 1x Intel Core2quad Q6700 1x GeForce GTS 250 Gentoo Linux (wine 1.3.17)
Ratings:
- Gfx Performance... 3 points
All Settings at 'HIGH'.
- 5 fps in bloodline chooser
- 12 fps in character customization
- 20 fps in CQ
- 60 fps in space (just like TQ)
- 35 fps at The Academy
- Overall Performance... 3 points
Transitions space/hangar have always been too long
- Overall very nice, although I'm somewhat taken back by 'the store'... not sure where this is going...
Nevertheless... bought a skirt, where can I slip into it?
Glitches, probably wine-related:
- in space, the status HUD is sometimes overlayed with a square texture, upper half white, lower half red.
- shadows in CQ are very sharp and very dark, basically there is no shading, but only light/no light.
- mouse pointer in CQ turns to a white square when using mouse-drag to look around

Hardware and operating system: Core i7 920 - modest overclock at 3.3 Ghz 2 x Gigabyte GTX 460 in SLI mode - factory overclock at 715 Mhz, and running a dual 24-inch monitor setup Windows 7 home premium 64-bit
1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) (1-5 scale)
Everything set to "high" and "enabled."
- Framerate varies between 53-57 while in the quarters, and increases to 60-61 when I move out to the ship dock.
- GPU usage increases to 75%-85% on both gpus, with a corresponding temperature increase of 10-12 degrees Celsius while in CQ. This is equivalent to what I see when running three clients in space.
- Load time both on startup in station and docking, was negligible -- a few seconds. Short enough that I reached for a cup of coffee, and by the time I turned back to the monitors, I was in.
- Light fixture flickering, which seems to grow or lessen in intensity as I move around the room.
- Moved smoothly in and out of character customization.
- Annoying "bug" that while in fullscreen mode, if I click anywhere on the second monitor, Eve client minimizes itself. Does not do this when in "window" mode.
Rating of "4" due to lighting fixture flickering. I assume the minimizing behavior is a bug that get fixed.
2. Rate the overall performance (1-5 scale)
Current state: rate a "4" and better than I expected given the posts I've read on the forums. Obviously lots of "content" to be added, but except for the two issues noted above, what I saw and experienced, worked fine.
3. General feedback
Didn't do the tutorials. In seven years, I've never done any tutorials, actually.

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) 1 - 5-6 fps with quality settings and a horrible grainy texture on everything.
2. Rate the overall performance 3 - Menu speed and the way CQ works is better than expected, but gaping holes in the room and the horrific lag/fps makes it all but unusable.
3. General feedback Unless this gets a huge kick in the ass speed wise, you're turned docking into a nightmare. Also not sure what the point of giving us vanity items to play with when the majority are bugged/unskinned, just to test the buttons work? June 21st suddenly feels far too close to hand.

CC is still laggy ang glitchy (lags for a few settings after changing anything) - been like this ever since TQ's incursion 1.4 patch; CQ performance - i'd say 4.5 out of 5 (shadows look somewhat strange at times, but in overall nice). CPU usage is through the roof though, as if i was in huge fleet battle, thankfully it relies on all of my cores not single one. Cpu usage is noticeably higher while on the balcony overlooking the ship. Also some animation unfinishedness (like sliding character's feet after stopping from walking). Ship positioning is weird, i'd like to see the fore part of the ship instead of the aft side, thanks!

Installer/Launcher Tool - 4/5 The installer saved temporay data on the C drive even trough both paths was to d:spil/cpp/ect.
Performance - 4/5 The performance is arond 20-30 FPS with all high settings EXCEPT post processing.
Weird Behavior 1. A Buste shows up in front of the entrance to the quaters themselfes from the walk from hangar view.(you can see hangar view troug this transparant item). 2. Small white dots in corners of walls, like between the ledges. 3.Post Processing adds a annoying grainy flismy layer. THIS IS ANNOYING
Feedback. 1. The lack of V-sync is now more apprant than ever, when moving in CQ my monitor makes very visible tearing.(my fault for chosing a slow monitor but still). 2. The Click to move feature should be a third person mode toggle. 3. The Chat System should resond to a Enter click to activate the chat and a second to send your message. 3. The navigation system should be improved in stations, The current system is _a little_ weird and feel unintutive.
System Specs : CPU: Intel Core Duo E6600 2.4GHZ Ram DDR3 800 8800GTX 786 Ram.

My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L505 and it handles a LOT of games. But if it's struggling just to run EvEs character creator on the lowest settings, then there's something very wrong. And I'm not the only one experiencing the same problem.
CCP, we NEED the option to disable CQ.
There seems to be something wrong with the coding. It's sloppy, full of errors, and not streamlined. It's very unlikely that CCP will completely fix it before release so many of us players need the ability to switch it off. _____________________________________

Ok, i got in... for whoever has the sameproblem try using a older password, (even if is 3 months old) it worked with me.
now, i am pretty exited to see all this new things but on my laptop which supports 3 client of eve everything is running super slow. At First, the loading time once connected or docking is around 2 minutes, which is a huge long time if you are trying to make things fast.
my configuration is: intel T7400 2.16-2.17 4 Gb DDr2 256 Video card (remember is a laptop)
I setted everything on LOW except the texture quality which i left at HIGH. Inside the CQ i have something around 2-3 FPS which makes it quite impossible to interact with. I could not access the balcony as if there was a wall which would not let me exit. With that configuration i would rate it 1 that is on either performance (graphic and overhall). Even in space is very slow might be 7-8 FPS. and the HUD is blinking.
I turned the texture to medium and in Space everything started to run better around 18-20 FPS, the HUD still blinking though. The CQ, when finished loading i found myself in the balcony so that now is working. FPS raised to 6 which at least makes me able to try to interact. After trying to really interact i have to say sadly that still impossible. Overhall and graphic performance still 1.
I turned finally texture to LOW. In space FPS raised a little more 23-25. Loading time still huge around 2 minutes. CQ still very slow 7 FPS. that makes really tedius.
I really appreciate all this, i mean it. Is very nice and looks great but i cannot stop being concerned about the fact that i might not be able to play it anymore after the patch with this laptop. buying another pc is for now out of question especially thinking that i run well 3 accounts at the same time right now. I hope the final version will be much more fast than now otherwise i am sure that a lot of people will find themself in a position where they cannot play :(.
Still GREAT Job... but please do something for our older pc.
cheers

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) Performance was good on an ATI Radeon 4850, but my card was running pretty hot. I realize you haven't optimized the code yet so 4. The walk from the cabin to the ship will quickly become tedious I imagine. I really liked the info screen, epic win. There were some white body parts hanging in the cabin. The new crisp British voice kinda clashes with Aurora's old soothing voice. I prefer Aurora's voice. I couldn't get my chap to sit down.
2. Rate the overall performance 4
3. General feedback I would not buy anything in the virtual store if I don't have the option to see how it looks first.
Overall, pretty sweet. ----- Malevolence. is recruiting. Dive into the world of 0.0 !

Probably already requested, but I'd really like to see a way to zoom in on the individual "screens" when sitting on the couch. The text can be pretty hard to read and being able to zoom in on at least the main screen would be awesome. I'm really loving this latest build, I like the way we interact with objects, and I like the little things like the skill training and clone update alerts on the main screen.

CCP should at least license a real 3D engine for station part of the game instead of learning how to kill a GPU by assigning it to 5 students. Carmack can cram better looking 3D environment into iPhone, not to mention better framerates.

1. Rate the graphics performance (framerate, UI lag, etc) A lot better than previous version, still only 5fps but seems a lot smoother and just about playable. I know it will get better...
2. Rate the overall performance Docking still take a long time...

Cloaking taken to next level
Happens every time i load the game. After undocking -> docking only forearms are transparent and there is strange semi transparent shell around waist - not visible when shirt is on top of pants.
Graphic performance :
4 for FPS, 2 for glitches, noticed that some of buttons are offset when AA is turned on, especially the one on mirror.
Overall performance: 4
General feedback: Character creator locks up for few seconds every time i change even the smallest detail making it pain in the...

1. 2/5 With all settings set to low (or off where possible) I get a framerate of 13 . this is barely playable, the UI is just responsive enough to use, no more. This is pretty annoying as I can have most settings on high while in space, and get framerates of around 60; I don't want to have to change my graphics settings every time I dock/undock. I'm getting a graphical bug where some shoulders, neck, and waist are floating in the entrance to the CQ, my character looks fine though. How do you want me to give you a dxdiag? It's too much to paste here.
2. ?/5 Not sure what you're asking.
3. I guess it is mildy interesting to sit on the couch and watch the main screen, but tbh it all just seems like fluff. I can guarantee I won't be looking around the CQ to undock, find my fitting window, or interact with my planets(etc.). I'll use the Neocom. I know you're proud of the CQ but I can't help but feel that it's worthless. From an immersion perspective, It isn't realistic to dock and instantly be fully clothed in your captains quarters, I found this jarring. I would prefer to dock into our regular screen, then have an "Enter CQ" button on the Neocom, maybe with a 30 sec timer which implies your character is showering and dressing. As others have said(not just in this thread), a capsuleer won't get out of his pod at every station, especially when you're only picking up a mod or something. speaking of immersion, I remember a player asking a question at a past fanfest, about whether or not we'll be able to have a 1st person view for immersion purposes. iirc you said something like, "we'll probably include a feature where if you zoom in all the way, the camera will pop into the characters head". I'd love this feature. If I could set the view to first person, hopefully I wouldn't have to load my character model, and I'd get a much better framerate. (I have no idea if the graphics engine works this way)
All in all I'll be slightly annoyed if this hits TQ in its current form, as I'll have to make sure I hit F10(starmap) everytime I dock to ensure I get proper UI responsiveness. Even if my comp could handle this fine I still wouldn't use it in it's current form, as to me it's just an annoying way of accessing all the features we already have.

Is your SLi still switched on, after I updated to the beta, the flickering lights went away, I noticed later the Sli had been disabled, after switching it back on the flickering lights returned.

Graphics performance is absolutely horrible! Virtually unusable. I set everything to low just so I could move and look around. Still a frame-rate of around 10/sec. I'm using an Asus M4A78LT-M LE motherboard built in ATI graphics card. Rating 1 - Terrible
Overall Performance - Hard to tell with the graphics performance - can't rate it.
General feedback? Well the performance is an overwhelming problem for I just get a sinking feeling that when it's released I'm going to find degraded performance for the most basic of in station tasks.
I'm NOT looking forward to the patch if this is what it will be like for me. - Sorry, I wanted to like it - just can't.

The "it is guaranteed not to work" kind or the "we haven't tried to make it work and aren't collecting feedback, but if it does work, good for you" kind?

Agreed! My FPS is also bad!
Is this due to it being on a "Testing" server?

Speaking for myself, I have an Nvidia 570 graphics card and I really like the idea of CQ. It runs just fine on my system (even if it makes my graphics card fan noticeably louder), but even I agree that CQ should be optional. CCP's silence on this issue leads me to believe that it will not be optional, and I find that to be really stupid!
For many players, part of the appeal of EVE is the low system requirements. By not allowing CQ to be optional, CCP is effectively abandoning that target market.

Doubt it, the new character creator ended up being released per the testing. I just hope that the CQ is usable on a large enough proportion of current pcs, as if it becomes an unpleasant experience it could have a lasting effect on the popularity of the game for new players. -----

CQ is on SiSi now... I have suggested CCP amend the devblog that they had at the top of the feature page which told you all about how CQ was on Duality and how to connect, given that testing was now happening on SiSi however....
Any how Duality has stopped being the CQ server and gone back to presumably being the Mass test server... Although SiSi was used for the last mass test.... So no idea what Duality is doing atm tbh. But CQ and the rest of the presumably first Incarna patch is on SiSi. __________________________________________________
