Hey, I just lost my first ship, doing a Sisters of Eve level 1 mission, "burning down the hive". The ship I lost was an amarr destroyer coercer.
Is there an online resource where I can find comparisons of the various ships in Eve? Any suggestions on what my next ship should be? Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks!

From what I've read, the Sisters of EVE arc isn't meant to be run from beginning to end in the same ship. By the time you get to the end of it, you should be in something like a cruiser... or get some help.
There are a lot of Google hits for the mission. Seems the best way is to fit for long-range, speed, and shoot the webbers first.
I've never run it myself though (didn't exist when I started).

Congratulations!
Go get a cruiser and do the rest of the Arc in that.

Edited by: Cassandra Bloodwing on 22/05/2011 20:05:03 Was that the mission where you get webbed and warp scrambled?
If so the easiest way to do it is to get a fast frigate with afterburner and overdrive injector adn then long range weapons. Just keep the npcs at more than (I think it was) 10km and they can't hurt or web you.

Thanks for the feedback, it is appreciated.
One more question: on this mission I did get warp scrambled and that's how I got screwed. I did have a warp stabilizer equipped, but didn't have it online. I tried to put it online to get un-"warp scrambled", but that didn't help.
In order to avoid being warp scrambled, does the warp stabilizer have to be online first?

Edited by: Rocks Rock on 23/05/2011 02:04:10 Don't use warp stabilizers.
Also don't put stuff offline that you want to use at any point while you're undocked. If it doesn't fit while online, don't put it on the ship.

That mission is the hardest of the whole SoE-epic arc, imo, even the last one (Dagan) is harmless compared to that.
That link might help (basically, kite them): http://wiki.eveuniversity.org/Burning_Down_the_Hive

Sounds like you're looking for the item database http://wiki.eveonline.com/en/wiki/Item_Database It's not the most streamlined system and sometimes the updates lag behind the patch that makes the change but this is as close as you're going to get to a complete list of everything and its stats.
As to the warp stabaliser thing; if you're in combat then typically having one fitted is a bad idea. It will screw with other parts of the ship and takes up a valuable low slot that could overwise be used to help you tank stuff or kill stuff. In PvE if you're worried about being scrambled then take out elite frigates first as they are the only ones which scramble/disrupt you. You can tell which ones they are by the prefix (e.g. Strain render alvi is an elite frigate while render alvi is a normal one and Dire pithii invader is elite while Pithii invader isn't). In PvP the difference is even more noticable and fitting even one can cost you a fight. Generally the only ships that should fit them are ships attempting to avoid combat altogether (e.g. scanning ships) or ships which don't need a target to fire and are likely to die relatively quickly anyway like a smartbomb BS. Also worth noting that a warp stabaliser is +1 warpstrength but a warp scrambler is -2. A single stabaliser will counter single disrupter which is -1 but not multiple disrupters or a scrambler. Heavy interdictors will stop you warping no matter how many you have fitted.
Theres a difference between 'online' (icon is in colour whereas offline modules are greyed out) and 'active' (has a green outline). Online means the module is ready for use and active means it is actually being used. A stabaliser is a passive module so you don't need to activate as it should apply its effects as long as it is online. If you don't online it in a station then don't bother for a combat vessel as you probably won't have the cap to actually online a module in the middle of a fight (requires approx 90% cap). There are a few exceptions but generally if you can't online a module before you launch because you don't have enough powergrid or CPU then don't bother fitting it and instead find something else to put in there.

Yeah that's a tough mission - I've not run it either but the advice I've read was all - keep your distance with speed mods and kill them from range with big guns - that or get like a Caracal.
As to off lining modules ... I've done that occasionally but as a rule - it's not something that's going to work well - especially in combat.
I think the thing I did it with was like a salvager. I could do all the shooting I was going to do, sit and let my capacitor build up as you need like 95% - turn something off - then turn the salvager on. When I was done with the salvager I could go through the same routine. The thing here - is that all that ****ing around waiting for your cap to recharge - you could just go back to the station ... So ... even when you can do it ... it often doesn't pay. The reason there would be for ****ing around with something like that would be - if for some reason you couldn't go back to a station. So ... it's like it is something you can do but ... mostly it's not worth doing and the slot can usually be put to better use.

Its an art, and there is not one correct answer to how to do it right.

I've occasionally messed around with my cloaking device when missioning in low-sec. I offline it during the mission so I don't get the scan resolution penalty and can actually lock stuff in a reasonable time and if I feel like going AFK or don't like the look of a new face in local but don't want to be stuck in a station I'll pop a few boostersto help top my cap up, online the cloak, warp to a safe spot and activate it. Not perfect but it keeps me safe and lets me do stuff in real life for a bit.
And yeah that SOE was a right pain in the jacksie for a new player. I think I managed the last few missions in the end in a cormorant after calling in help from various guys in caracals and a dude in a Moa. I still think they're ugly ships but they did better than my cormie.

Edited by: Heidi Shane on 23/05/2011 23:35:15 I lost my cormorant in that mission due to being careless (it's just drones, so I can go afk for a minute, right?) and then completed it in a cheaply fitted kestrel. Probably wouldn't even have noticed the meaner drones if I hadn't gone afk as I normally stayed at ~25 km range or so.
Not exactly what you're looking for, but I like this site for ideas on how to fit ships: http://eve.battleclinic.com/browse_loadouts.php
You can also access it through the EVE Fitting Tool (a separate program) and load up different fits with your own skills so you can easily find out if you are able to use them or need to train more first. |
