I think there could be more done for people flying hulks and mining assets in 00 space. I enjoy mining in Eve. I enjoy it in a way probably different than many of you would give me credit for. I donÆt mine in hi sec and I donÆt mine AFK in 00 grav sites. I do log on to vent, I do watch local and intel like a hawk. I donÆt want carefree what I want is rewards for my attentiveness and inability to return fire.
Some of you choose to spend your entire time destroying things and that is ok, itÆs a great method to vent the frustrations of the day, I get it, I spend a portion of my time in the same way. Some of us, sometimes, like to finish a day of work and build something. If I had the space I might have a woodworking shop in the basement. I donÆt so IÆm trying to build stuff in Eve.
If youÆve played eve long enough you may understand:
End recycling of minerals. Invent new widgets. Recycle mods and stuff into new widgets. Mission widgets.
Rat loot / manufactured mods have value. Instead of representing that reprocessed value with minerals represent it with something else that is useful. Removing that duplication alone would probably re-legitimize the trade. Minerals should have one entry point into the economy.
Your drone regions are devaluing the miner role.
Ore extraction must be a function of the playerÆs attentiveness. I say the default cycle should produce 1 unit mineral per cycle. If you find miners whose min/cycle rate = 1 X 100 cycles then marco_miner_found= true
Mining extraction rates should be a function. Suggestions: System sec X [new?] skills X Reaction to. an on screen event X fleet / orca/rourq bonsues Think EQ2: when crafting and you have to compensate, except simpler Think: social rewards for players who choose to fleet up New ore types already dear god.
Final Observations
When plexing anoms you can fit a ratting ship that is capable of also being somewhat effective in a pvp encounter. Of course a properly fitted pvp ship is ideal but you can sit there grinding isk in anoms and also be effective in pvp encounters.
When mining one cannot defend themselves against pvp encounter nor many most belt rats. I do not suggest otherwise. However, why is it then that mining does not offer better rewards than : [rat loot + bounty + the ability to defend oneself ]
The risk vs reward paradigm in mining needs to be legitimized both on the hi and low of the spectrum (see suggestions about a mining rate).

fixed it for you.
EVE is meant to be shared in groups. Your corpmates should be organizing security for your 0.0 mining ops. In a wormhole or 0.0 you should never mine solo without support, just not a good idea. Mining ships are defenseless for a reason, they are specialized just like combat ships are specialized for combat and are terrible at mining. |

Edited by: KWyz on 24/05/2011 16:08:59 Let's look at it this way: no matter how you slice it, mining is boring.
It's a repetitive activity, with the only highlights being asteroids blowing up and enemy attacks, wich, you guessed it, take time away from mining. That's why we probably have more bots than real people doing the job.
It's very well known that botting itself is a sign of boring activities in a MMO.
Mining should be fixed by finding a way to remove the boredom from the entire process, and at the same time making it so the whole process cannot be automated, emulated by a bot.
Obviously I'm not a game designer so my ideas are crap, but one might attempt to create some sort of a mini-game about mining, with skills influencing that mini-game.
HAVING MINING BE THE ONLY SOURCE OF MINERALS IN THE GAME WILL NOT MAKE IT ANY LESS BORING OR MORE FUN. I apologize for the capslock rage, but a lot of players fail to notice that. It will just be an incentive for more real people to endure this crap mechanic. Or an incentive for other people to put more bots on the job.

That's why why CCP introduced PI. So you can do some other stuffs even in 0.0 whilst waiting for 17,000 m3 of whatever to pile up in your Hulk's hold.
Get over it! Learn from your mistake and move on. |

Going with the current trend in development, mining will be changed as follows: - Asteroids will be removed as such, instead belts become more of a general location - Mining ships will be removed as well as mining items - Obsolete mining related skills will be removed and skillpoints reimbursed - A PI like system will replace mining, allowing passive mineral income for everyone -------- Due to bandwidth streamlining, signature images are no longer displayed. Edited by: Narisa Bithon on 24/05/2011 18:57:59 i think we need a capital mining barge (no not the rorqual) how it would work?
here is how.
player probes out a grav site.
Grav site has 2 or 3 shattered moon chunks along with some roids
capital mining barge warps to grav site and attaches itself to one of the shattered moon chunk and runs a cycle (10 min cycle times) the ore hold on the capital mining barge fills up after 12 cycles (2 hour total mining time) with a variety of ores of varying amounts and even some minute amounts of various moon mins.
eventually the chunk starts to break up into roid sized chunks and the capital mining barge detaches and moves to another huge chunk. meanwhile the hulks can mop up the remaining smaller roids.
it still requires a fleet to operate in cos of the 10 min cycle times to protect it and to empty it's ore bay (can only be emptied when the capital mining barge is NOT attached to a huge chunk.

It's a free universe. It just seems silly to complain about being defenseless when that's what friends are for (or alts). MMO last I checked stood for Massively Multi-player Online, not Massively Masturbating One. |
