Edited by: DestroyRoid on 24/05/2011 13:17:55 I heard this can be quite profitable with passive R&D agents and such.....
I dont want an exact skill plan, just a few of the important items to train to level 4/5 over others
(im just a dumb pvp pilot so)

to get decent money you'll want the relevant science skill to 3/4 (lever 3 core agents need 3, level 4 agent would need 4). No time for eve after agent change so don't know if with the new agent changes you have to grind them...I ground for my higher level 3's and was not fun. Someone who knows hopefully chimes in for ya.
to make most money, look at the market prices for cores. Some cores go for less, some go for more. Train the science for highest price if not looking to invent on your own. Generally core markets don't vary much.
This is decent passive isk but can be time consuming for max returns. At level 3 and 4 you will get 1 core a day. If you do the cheesy daily missions, its 2. The travel time will makes this not so fun if agents spread out far.
Unless stretched for isk...cores best left to sit for a month or more imo.

This just aint true, perhaps it was a LONG time ago but not now. Once you have the science skill trained to level 1, you can start research with a level 4 agent.
I started R&D on a fifth character slot (two accounts) about a year ago. Once I had Mechanical Eningeering at level 1, I could use the level 4 Duvolle agent in Ainalle (Sitalere).

This and you will also need personal standing for the agent in question, your skills just give you more research points.

do more research points mean more datacores?

Yup. For historical reasons not all datacores are equally expensive (50, 100 and 150(??) RP/core), but research in the more expensive cores also yields 2 or 3 times more RP, so effectively you will get the same number of cores/day (assuming your science skills are equal).

Edited by: Drykor on 30/05/2011 15:30:15 Research project management V is taking it a bit too far for a main character IMO. And probably even for an alt.
Tbh I personally wouldn't bother with the grind anymore. I recently gathered my datacores all over Eve and made about 3 billion. Now this may sound like a lot of isk but this is:
a) from about 2 years of accumulation (rough guess) c) the yield of 2 RP farming characters with a total of 11 of the best agents you can get, with good research fields.
In the end, for a single character, even with maxed skills, it's not that great income. Now if you already have excellent faction standings, it may be worth it getting your standings up for the R&D corporations as you can start with running level 4's straight away. But even then it's gonna take a while. If you still have to grind standings, meh.
Also consider gathering all the cores takes a long time so it's not very efficient to do it monthly. Leave more time in between if you're after isk efficiency and hate hauling as much as anyone else. Or you might as well run incursions in that time and gain more isk/hour. --- Drykor - AHARM |

Edited by: Etharion Calthon on 11/06/2011 02:59:48 Edited by: Etharion Calthon on 11/06/2011 02:58:14 Heres my input:
Datacore collection DOESN'T take that long from 6 agents. Be SMART about it! I have 3 toons, each with RPM V (6 agents each). Get the full list of research agents and find a nice set up of level 3 and Level 4 agents in close proximity to one another, or close to your area of operations. I find in most R&D discussions, people tend to just focus on getting all Level IV agents scattered all over New Eden, rather than going for geographical quality.
Heres a good resource:
http://games.chruker.dk/eve_online/research_agents.php
Now ignore the corp/personal standings and agent quality. The purpose of this link is to give an idea of the location and field of the agents. My toons use a nice mix of Ishukone, Carthum, Kaal, Lai Dai, and Core Complexion agents. I could have all 18 with 6 jumps of Jita IF I WANTED...but my primary area of operations is Domain region, so I keep some there for convenience. Many of my agents are "on the way" to market hubs, making collection even easier.
For collection...get a Cheetah or even a Purifier (!), throw a couple Hyperspatial Rigs on, an align mod, and cargo expander. A Cheetah can carry well over 300m3, throw a couple of small cans in there you can EASILY carry 2 months worth of cores. Even better...use a Prowler. I spend 15 minutes a month collecting...(!) Also, a KESTREL is a killer ship for this duty...she can EASILY pack 500m3 or better!

Just don't forget you have to grind enough standings with all these corps to b able to access their R+D agents ..
Datacores are getting worth less and less these days. Not sure if it's really worth the effort and skilltime anymore.

"Passive" income from datacores is not entirely passive, and also has a few other issues.
First off, datacore prices change. The 400,000isk per datacore type you train for and grind standing for, might WILL eventually drop in price. Never ever plan on always selling at a peak unless you are willing to sit on your cores for months, or even over a year.
Assuming 200,000isk per datacore (a decent price), and 1.5 cores a day (can get a little over 2 with MAXED skills), and assuming 5 agents, your "passive" income will be about 1.5m a day, or 45 mil a month. You'll need almost THREE MONTHS income for even a modestly fitted common battleship.
And picking them up is a pain. If you pick them up frequently, you spend vast amounts of time afking all over the galaxy. If you wait, you cannot use afk for pick up due to suicide gankers.
Play nice while you butcher each other.
