What would it be and why?
I think I'd go for a zombie outbreak, would give you a fighting chance although being eaten alive would suck.

Excellent, I will attach Screens and controllers to these computers and turn Humanity into X-Box's. How do you feel about being trapped forever in CoD 4?

Edited by: Iasius on 25/05/2011 14:20:24 Get the stock market to do futures on the apocalypse. Then it will become a self fulfilling prophecy and a few rich people will make a lot of money from it.
This is topical given the gross 'moral hazard' that caused the financial crisis.

Oh, boy, so many fun ones ! I don't even know what to pick !
A few of my favs (in order of my personal perception of the likelihood of them actually happening):
* grey goo scenario (molecular zombies) * sun going supernova ("because it ate something bad" that was passing by) * current vacuum state being replaced by an even more stable vacuum (i.e. "false vacuum collapse") * time travel annihilating humanity's existence, or even preventing Earth from forming as a planet at all * whoever is running "The Matrix" gets bored with it and shuts down the machine our universe simulation is running on

Due to tidal forces, you could be dead long before you can even begin to experience any significant amount of time dilation. Guess it depends on the black hole mass. Also, even in the best of cases (you don't get torn apart by tidal forces and you do start experiencing heavy-duty time dilation), in subjective time, you die of thirst and/or hunger in just about the same amount of subjective time it would take you to do the same in an empty locked room anywhere else. _

World War III, or IV or XIIZZ as some of those 'technical' people would call it, whatever, anyway. The next major World War that actually involves 2 or more Developed countries fighting each other with 'Traditional' militaries and tactics. Ended with a small, but precise nuclear strikes that eliminate the world's governments, plunging the world into anarchy, and small city states fighting each other for dominance all over the world, drawing from the massive military stockpiles.
I probably wouldn't last more than a few weeks or months, but it would be a really cool way to go.

Great flood,
I'd buy a boat and sail to Area 51 and do a scuba dive and steal a ufo, fly into orbit, DD the planet and sell the orbit rights to aliens from the 7th dimension.
This might of course lead to an intra-dimensional war as the 'zoids from the 4th dimension wanted it for themselves and have always threatened to undo gravitational pull in our reality should this happen.
This would also render my ufo useless as it works using anti-gravity.
So, maybe not...maybe the zombies are appealing, I have heard that humans taste like chicken...but then again that does mean that chickens taste like humans.

Zombie apocalypse for sure, that virus is spread through bites rather tha airbourne. Stuff that we have at least something to defend ourselves that anyone can. Rather not something that we can't defend against, at least not in my lifetime haha.
However, I prefer this, World War III from Star Trek. 27 years of war, deaths of 600 million. But in return, 20 years later stuff like poverty, disease, war, hunger, cruelty, despair, and hopelessness disappears and humanity is united. Would love something like this, but very unlikely it'd happen in my lifetime, or at very old age.
Then maybe first alien first contact where human golden age of space travel starts. :) ----------------------------------- Peace through power! |

Honestly, I think I will choose the most feasible one. SOYLENT GREEN. That's where we heading with the OMGLOL amount of people being born everyday and the impossibility of Earth's natural resources to be exploited in the way they are being exploited.
Either that or for me, the best possible ending would be a quick Rapture like one, where 1/3rd of the population disappears and the remaining 2/3's have to choose sides in the upcoming battle between the Lizardmen/Satan/EVIL CORPS/Alien Overlords led humans and those that choose to think for themselves and realize obvious truths during the apocalypse and join up against a common enemy.
But high fantasy aside, Soylent Green is simply the most logical and obvious besides "Acts of God" World shattering disasters.
