Just checked Duality for the new CQ Build and saw the new Login Screen <- here! Its absolutely AMAZING! New Turrets and a new model for the Sacrilege. I was wondering if CCP will remodel all ships and when they will deployed? I was also wondering, the Sacrilege have only 4 Turret hardpoints but in the Login Screen it looks like the current missleboat is changed to a lazorboat.

They are not remodeling every ship in the game.
However they are re-render the normal maps form the 2-3 million high poly versions of all the ships *if you have the art book you can see them in all their 3 million poly glory*
They are cutting the diffuse maps in half, from 512 to 256 pixels.
and they are doubling the size of the normal maps and re-unwraping them so the normal maps correctly show the high poly models are they are projecting.
example
They are only remodeling the ships that they find aren't up to par with the art model wise.
Also the new texture method has this awesome side effect. I'm not sure if you know how unwrapping works but look it up I'm going to assume yo understand. Basically the logos on say the scorpion, or the new turrets don't have to take up the whole unwrap and are "stenciled" on to the hull. This lets them change the color of the logos.
It's also why the text on the scorpion is easy to read. the diffuse texture is smaller than it used to be. but the text on the side of the ship is on it's own decal map. Meaning without taking up more space it can look higher res on a larger unwrap.
It's also why the new tech 2 turrets can change the color of the stripes without having to make a new diffuse map. They can just change the color channel of the decal.
Also all tech 3 ships already use this new texture style. which is why they look so good.
if you have any questions I could go into it more.
but basicly a lot of ships allready look 100% great in thier high poly version, so it's just a case of making a new low poly *yay togogun* and making the new texture maps.
also I think the case is that with ships they remodel from scratch are just done sooner. Since they start from step one and keep going until it's done. I wouldn't be surprised if they are doing the rest of the work in passes. As in unwrap all mimatar frigates. now unwrap all ammar frigates. and so on. While the brand new ships are handled by 1 or 2 artists tops. And are less technical art work.

Edited by: S''qarpium D''igil on 28/05/2011 12:08:29 As you said, the sacrilege uses missiles. The ship on the login screen is the Devoter.
To answer your question: Yes, but it will take them a long time to remodel all ships.
I think we can safely assume that CCP "hacked" the ship so that they could show off more fancy lazors than the in-game ship can actually fit.

again, they don't have to remodel all of them to get them to look better. They allready made 2 million poly versions of all the ships. They will only remodel them if they look boring, or dumb at that poly count.
For instance, rifter won't get remodeled. Wolf tech 2 version might since they might add missles some day. In fact any ship with visible missile bays will most likely be remodeled.
The rest are pure unwraping/and retexturing.

Ok, maybe its a Devoter... but a very dark one here are some screens and you'll see there are 8 turret hardpoints. hardpoint 1-5 and hardpoint 4-8 and lazor full effect
Miilla the last one is for you =)

That particular model was posted on its own weeks ago.
A few people were able to reference the location of the model and it was listed in the build as an AT9 reward ship.
There was a petition thread on 4/11 to replace the current maller hull with the AT9 reward hull shown in this thread. Doesn't seem to have gone anywhere though. :/ http://eve-search.com/thread/1495008/page/1
Was also a punisher model posted as an at9 prize as well. http://www.eve-search.com/thread/1494497
An older thread that started on 3/13 discussing the hull. http://www.eve-search.com/thread/1481638/page/1#1
There IS hope though...
Here is a youtube video that was posted on 3/15 that depicts a 360 rotation of the ship. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6iJbrIWK2U
In the comments, somebody points out that there are slight variations in the supposed maller re-design models, and the at9 rewards. Meaning that even with one of these models being an at9 reward, there is still a possibility that we will see a Maller hull swap in addition to the AT9 prize.
Would be nice, since I really like the model.

Ill have to check it out. I see the slight variations as well that people have mentioned between the at9 hull and the maller replacement. Engine differences... I like the Punisher model as well.
Edit: Just checked Duality, and am pleased to see a full hull replacement. There are also extra little engines thingy's on the SAC to make it look slightly different than the t1 hull.

You're probably right, but I'm going to keep hoping that the new art guy just didn't get the "Khanid ships are black" memo.

Ive noticed when flying around my Sac, as well as my Vengeance, that the intended black color scheme doesn't look black at all under certain lighting. Maybe it's the same with these.
Hrm, I'll buy one on Duality and fly it around to see.

it's not 8 I only count 6 effects. And all ships always show double the number of turrets. I think you're confusing yourself.

Yes, I know Khanid ships can change colours depending on the system nebula colours, but the colour scheme is always a distinctive Black/Dark Silver. In the new model, the Sacrilege is distinctly brown... :-/

Also, the one on the login screen is not the Devoter. I took some screens on duality and the Devoter doesn't have the extra bits on the wings that the one on the login screen has. To see them you have to watch right in the beginning when the wing is illuminated by the background light.
I'm guessing that particular one may in fact be the AT9 prize... Might explain the guns.

I always thought the colour kinda felt more like an electric dark blue or even a tint of dark cobalt. ---

Ive always had a problem determining ship colors in Eve. Mostly because of the variations in system lighting from one to the next.
As for the Sac... I logged into Duality again and looked at it in my hanger. The lighting is fairly neutral there. And it does appear somewhat brown as previously mentioned.
I can't figure out how to actually spin the ship in the hanger though, let alone zoom in for a better look..... grumble.

Edited by: Sarmatiko on 28/05/2011 13:42:50 Ship on login screen is not flyable cruiser. It`s just NPC rat cruiser, one of many (blood raiders maller on missions - can you fly it? No!) This is just mix of new ac2_t2 model and khanid texture as written in login scene .red file. This is not Sacrilege nor Devoter. And yes, I have posted this model in march but people never read comments to videos.

I'm surprised at how many people want to get rid of the old Maller model. Personally I think the smooth shell of the current model looks a lot better and 'harder' as Amarr should. I'd rather have seen CCP just using the new model for new Maller-upgrades or a whole new Amarr ship altogether.
Same with the new Scorpion though, which I found one of the coolest looking ships in the game before the new 'lets make it look more like an insect'-look. It's not even Caldari-grey

Why not look at the Imicus, Probe, griffin, or Moa? Even then, the Moa isn't that bad. New textures maybe, but the meshes are good enough. ------------- Do not speak- unless it improves on silence. |

Its because the models RIGHT NOW being used on Duality are nearly identical to the one on the login screen. Only with slight variations between the Maller, Sac, and Devoter. That's why people are getting confused.
