It is not in the glossary. I cant find a definition through search. What does A.F.K. stand for? Why isn't it in the glossary?

It's onomatopoeic. It started as a 'sound' in mangas. -- And then there's of course the thing with it getting FPS even slower than the character creator, heating up video cards, taking a noticeable time to fully load ... |

When I first ventured onto the internet, for the longest time I thought "lol" stood for "lots of love".
I was reading all these posts about stuff and thinking to myself: look how nice all these people are!

google up "sexylosers webcomic" for a complete explaination.
Have your eyebleach ready.

Which gave us that quote from a message sent by a mother to her son: "Your granma died. LOL" _______________________ The best thing in EvE is Barrage M. |

I can think of one good reason to NOT have AFK in the glossary. Other than station spinning NOTHING should really be done AFK.

Fixed that for you. -- And then there's of course the thing with it getting FPS even slower than the character creator, heating up video cards, taking a noticeable time to fully load ... |

Eh ...
I don't know about now ... but once upon a time people training to be secretaries would learn "Short Hand" which was a way of making little squiggles on their memo pad so they could take down dictation faster.
A lot of groups create their own little short hand phrases. Once everyone knows what they're talking about it makes communication quicker and is a method of excluding those not in the group. *shrug*
People who use radios professionally have their own short hand - it's used a lot by amateurs but they often have no idea what they're actually saying. Of course a lot of short hand references vary with sub groups of a larger group so that people in the larger group aren't actually all using the same phraseology. Citizens Band Radio for example has a number of phrases that are not used by more professional users of radios where there is a premium on conveying information quickly, clearly and reliably - then GTF off the net.
It is my understanding - though I know nothing about it personally - that texting has a great number of short hand phrases, as you would expect from the nature of that form of communication.
Within EVE you've got subgroups that use different phrases a lot which other subgroups use less often.
And - things change over time. The catch phrases I used when I was in the military - are probably much different than the ones used today. They were in fact often specific to certain units and not shared widely - so that if you were familiar with a number of these units - you could tell which one someone was from by the catch phrases they used.

You can also google for the strange word or acronym preceeded by the "define" request. For example try googling "define: afk" (without the quotes, of course). Or follow this link. -- And then there's of course the thing with it getting FPS even slower than the character creator, heating up video cards, taking a noticeable time to fully load ... |
