Bad idea... Too complicated, too much cost.
On the matter of PCs vs MACs: Yes, Macs are beautiful for some, yes PCs have upgradability (MACPRO has too...),
BUT a gaming company looking (and going) forward is a good thing.Blizzard f***ed up the WOW client for so many years while keeping it with sub par graphics(the new DX11 option looks a bit better and is substantially faster).
Let CCP upgrade it too... I need more shiny things on my screen.
P.S. 27inches monitor, human aging... I just wish this CARBON thing pays off.

Ihad to upgrade my computer twice sense joining eve, just to have it freeze and crash more than it use to. Your eye candy is taking away from the playability of the game. Enough is enough. Honestly, spend a few extra bucks and set yourself up for the next few years. And no, you don't have to buy the "latest" anything, just you would do the world a favor if you kept yourself AT LEAST two years behind.
Also, "Mac" and "Apple" are synonyms "trash". If you own one, you have just spent $1000 for some genuine ****.

Has CCP considered the concept of releasing the patches to a download cache on our machines the DAY BEFORE it GOES LIVE?
That way, we don't have to wait until up time to download 550mb (for a render engine) before logging on.
Sure there is some last minute tweaks, but that is due to a bad test strategy, but even with that you can still last minute deploy a SMALLER patch.
I don't see why this cannot be done as I'm sure you have frozen your release a day or so before (or maybe even futher before) going live.
Just suggesting because there is customers here where patch day is very painful. (Kind of like trying to play Blu Ray, or sodomizing oneself with a Blu Ray box)
Hi Miilla!
I think 2 years ago when we both were starting this mmo in RMS corp, CCP made it painfully clear why they do not follow this suggestion. The argument line was, if I remember this still correctly, that things works differently with main base on Tranquility then the one on Singularity. So much differently that they feared the first 500mb patch would need second patch of 500mb plus another 100mb patch for patching the first 500mb. Sorry for any eventual memory miss on my side. :)
Anyhow if some CCP staff member cared to give an official anno domini 2011 explanation to folks like Miilla, it would be cool. Not everyone like me sit on cool 10mbit fiber. :)

That's why we do it, u can continually upgrade only the parts of your PC that needs upgrade, and if u already have a kick ass case, and monitor, you have Style as well. And if its Intel, or u want to deal with a little more work, u can hackintosh it and have OS X as well. I know this because I am speaking from experience. Sure u paid for style, but you are still an idiot.
Quote: And now, donŠt tell me if you spend 350$ for some hardware updates, they just appear magical in your system, building a system from scratch is as free as minerals in eve.
What? Magically appear in a system? When did I say that? It's called using your hands, and a screwdriver after having made sure you are not stock full of static electricity.
Hey, you are the guy who told us that you get for 350$ "hardwar that is better then the best Mac" and Mac Pros are not servers, they are just normal workstations. They are not as consumer orientated as iMacs for sure, but they offer the option to upgrade any part of the system just as any other tower pc ;-) If you want to update your system, thats the way to go. Though I admit as gaming system they have to much cpu power and gfx updates are to expensive, so they would be anyway a poor choice, but so are iMacs. No Apple System is build for gaming.
And for using your own hands and a screwdriver. It is all fine, it still takes time, I donŠt know how fast you build up a system from scratch, it takes me normally around 60 minutes, sometimes faster sometimes longer, depending on the case + at least 60 minutes for software installation (MS Updates hurray) and another 30 minutes minimum for backups, which a Mac a new system takes about 15 minutes for migrating my user data and plugin the power cord. DonŠt know what you take per hour, but somehow pre-fab sounds a lot more attractive to me since it stop living at my parents place. At least if I get something that runs more than 3 years stable without hardware failure. And yeah, dust can be a problem in any computer, but when I speak of "burn", I could as well have just written "fry" and mean just a general hardware failure for whatever reason. I still have here 5 or 6 asus mainboards which simply did not live long enough to see my powerbook die. The timing of the mainboard failure as well as the timing failure at several asus gfx cards suggest that asus simply is building hardware with planed obsolescence of about 2 1/2 years. At least it seems so to me, a shame because asus was building quality some years ago.
And now do not start telling me anything about quality psu, somehow I got the feeling that I am building systems longer than you. ;)

Suck it up that you got brainwashed by Apple into thinking a mac was superior in any way. Sell it on ebay while there are still gullible people to buy it for top dollar, pocket 1/2 of the cash, spend the other half on a faster system to play this glorious game we have here.

He wrote one line. It can be interpreted many ways. He could of not replaced his monitor for example, and with $350 not buying a monitor you can still buy a Hand Built PC that that will play 5 Eve clients. That's the beauty of AMD getting their ass handed to them by Intel, they have cut their prices.
How did I miss his point exactly?, as I fail to see your point.
WOW!! Your trying sooo hard... I truly believe the only person you're trying to convince that a PC is good, is your self. So go ahead and carry on good sir.. But each to his own i guess, as its all down to your budget when buying a machine in the first place..
Eliminating ignorance is sometimes a motivation for me, curious tho I had the incentive to ignore the rest of this forum thread, but u got one more post out of me.
Convincing myself? In my opinion a new Mac is quite possibly almost identical to a new PC depending on make, except for the Mac having that cutting edge EFI instead of a bios (comparing them performance wise, not the aesthetics). The point was people with old computers, and one having the option of not shelling out an arm and a leg for modern hardware where it matters, and the other having no option but to shell out for that modern hardware. Like you said, if you can afford a new Mac as often as needed, more power to you. Or perhaps just bootcamp u can get some better driver support. Yet with the economy as it is, I highly doubt that many people have said option to replace their aged mac, and this forum is proof.
Yep, better than twiddling your fingers waiting for EVE.. And the MAC PC thing always gets some good banter going...

Well, quality control from Apple is fairly awesome (save things like the mobile phone antenna, or the batteries that explode upon touch with a screwdriver).
Like I said I don't use Asus, I tend to like gigabyte, and the Abit motherboard with the first AMD dual core processor ever is still running in the living room (super old). Nice to see Apple's claim of ease of use is still in effect, no disagreement here.

there is somewhere on google or somthing a calculator with world time,i gues GMT is used for europe ,and AM/PM for usa EST ,eastern standard time etc, server is located in ice land so,that 1/2 earlier then usa and about 4 hours later then europe something like that..
