Ok, well I am new to wormhole life and this fact is an interesting and key one for keeping safe but!
How on earth did this get proven?! lol
Has CCP confirmed it or is it one of thos facts a little like how trees can sing, long as your not near them...
I am thinking if is safer to keep an alt on an open WH, or just close it up and look for new sigs (providing the no spawn till warp rule is true)

Couple of reasons that I consider proof:
If you scan one out pre downtime but don't warp to it and no one else has, if you then warp to it after downtime the k162 side gets a post downtime sig ID.
Someone I know collapsed their last static to run sites and didn't warp to the new one, when they had done sites and were looking for PVP they then warped to it and it opened to our WH and tried to jump us as we were running sites as we were also running sites and monitoring for new sigs it definitely didn't exit in our WH before the moment they warped to it. |

I was providing scanning support a while ago with combat probes while some others were running sites.
As soon as a new wormhole popped up on my probes, I scanned it down and warped to it to check it out, and there was already a bomber coming through that noticed us on dscan and tried to take us by surprise. (Didn't work since we knew he was there, so he died. Although being in a Cheetah with no combat modules I wasn't on the killmail) He had some friends coming in after him though, at which point we decided to leave.
Not proof, and unfortunately I didn't check whether that was the static for the other wormhole, but to have a newly appearing wormhole with ships already coming through it from the other side suggests that it appeared when they triggered it.
Or they could've collapses their previous static and immediately gone through the new one. I really don't know. |

Scan down your static to 100%.
Bookmark.
Don't warp to static.
Scan same spot two days later, get 100% hit.
Warp to and jump through static to an inhabited and very busy hole.

Some people have reported more than a week. Every day, new sig same spot. After a week, they finally warped to it and it was a brand new wormhole opened to a system with several towers inside and active ships that had their new sig within a few minutes of it being opened.
This isnt a one off story, this is a very common thing.

As people already stated there are many indirect proofs.
Another not mentioned here is this:
There are 113 C6's in EVE
at the same time there are 117 WH's of various class with C6 static
So - at any moment of time every C6 in game would had 1,035 bonus K162 on average.
And that is not counting Bonus that opens anywhere to any type of systems - one could argue that should double our calculation, to lest say nice 2 bonus WH's per C6.
As it is not the case, here is your INDIRECT PROOF that Wh's dont spawn on the other side unless You warp to it. Read and support: Don't mess with OUR WH's What is Your stance on WH stuff? |

One way to test this: go to the test server and scan for k162s. Unless the database has been very recently mirrored, there should be very few to almost none.

Statistically there are too few K162s, for hard numbers see: Project Snapshot
Also what Malkev and QT McWhiskers said is accurate, see: proto-wormholes (I've observed this myself with static wormhole sigs lating 90+ hours in the same spot if not warped to) |

Ohh.... and you're posting in it again......................
To the OP,
One thing you need to be very conscious of is that just because YOU have not opened it, it doesn't mean that it's not open.
If you scan your new static and don't warp to it, but already have or get a new incoming hole, then the new static could very well have been opened by someone else.
The only time you should consider this a strong defensive strategy is when you witness the static closing (ie you did it or know the time it closes) and you have no other incoming holes.

Even then there is always a chance someone has camped an alt in your hole, or logged off in your hole. there is no way to ever be 100% certain there are no non friendlies in your hole. |

I am thinking if is safer to keep an alt on an open WH, or just close it up and look for new sigs (providing the no spawn till warp rule is true) When CCP used to have jump statistics in the API for w-space, it was obvious when a wormhole was opened (especially to hisec).
Your best bet is to find all wormholes, and collapse them all, then don't warp to any new one from the static(s). Then keep on eye on scan for new wormholes. |
