Syrup
I was not trying to sugar-coat Eve. I gave up on that long ago, after most of my gaming friends couldn't handle the trial, and started poking fun at me for liking/playing the game. Since then, I'll only tell it like it is, and can only be accused of downplaying Eve, if anything. I've regularly told curious prospective players "It's boring, but believe it or not, that's part of what makes it engrossing."
I try and confer that it's somewhat like making a throne out of gold in minecraft. If you switch it over to free play and just spawn a bunch of gold blocks, all you get is a lame yellow chair. If you turn a continent upside down with your vast industrial might to mine the ore yourself, then you wouldn't trade that glorious blocky monument to your mastery of The Craft for anything. Except maybe a diamond throne.

This would not be a bad thing if it were true..but I don't believe it's true. It will depend on how much there is to do as an avatar iin a station.
I do think that walking in station will appeal to a wider audiance though, and yes some maybe wow players.

Fully agreed, I wonder how many EVE players once played WoW and are now afraid to admit it.

I still play WoW. I am not afraid to admit it. WoW is a good game.

I've played it too, nothing wrong with it. Good new player experience, world PvP only starts at lvl 30ish (on PvP server), as much PvP as you want. It's getting old at a certain moment though, expansions are a bit too much of the same every time and renders all old stuff redundant.

they are already amongst you...
Maybe it helps if I point out that Elitist Jerks (well-known guild and #1 WoW theory-crafting community) has its roots on the SA forums... guess where you can find them in EVE
read who's alliance this is and follow its instructions.

For Christ's sake. Let's say I'm a WoWer. I'm attracted by the new Incarna shineys. What do I do?
Well, I walk around in station a bit, enjoying myself. Then I head out to space, since that's where the actual gameplay is - the same gameplay we've had for years. It's no more fun to my WoW-addled mind than it was when I tried it two years ago, and so I don't subscribe. Incarna won't suddenly make people who hate EVE gameplay and want to change it suddenly love it in large enough numbers to do so. And let's say I'm attracted by the shineys, and find I love flying in space too. That's now a WoW plague people, that's what we call a new player.

And if EVE did have 10mil+ subs.. what the hell would happen to 0.0? There's not a server in the universe that could hold up (time dialiation or not) with hundreds of thousands on grid.
It would be awesome if it could:) I mean 10 + mill subscribers would lead to a revolution in this game. It would become so filled that a single person has to strive harder to make a difference but once it do. It affects more people then both you and i can even start to begin. imagining on.
NC would swell from 6000+ to 600,000+. Cap fleets of tens of thousands. There would be several milion titans running around.
I doubt there are enough hamsters on earth to keep the server running in this scenario.

Yep. Its not really the lack of a player avatar that puts the average wow player off, its the dull pve content and the fact that pvp is a good deal harder to get into. The only item in the June expansion that would help a tiny bit is the new agent finder.

We are the new wave of Noobs, If someone made a Wow alliance, I think it would do well, the massive influx of warcrackheads would make a current large blob look like 2 guys with rifters, Eve vets worst nightmare/wet dream 10,000-25000 people /dance 'ing through 0.0. If the alliance survived the year or so it would take to do Anything at all, worse case we noob up eve til they allow us to buy SP's lol. Dont think it could happen? Look at Goonswarm v BoB /doom

This. EVE lacks PvE. That's why the game's appeal hasn't spread any, and won't now.

... Seriously, though, I'm not sure a haul of WoW players would be the best idea. SOME are fine, but there's also a considerable amount of drooling grapefruits :< (but they would probably just quit EVE the first time they died anyway, so eh, problem fixes itself)
So long as some of them are the hardcore raiders. Some of end game wow content was actually fairly hard and required theory crafting. I can see the theory crafters such as I was, fitting in with us spread sheet users. It is all the "guild leader, should i roll on this? /boob shot" players I hated and hope I never see. Because as sad as it is, this game still has attention *****s who ask for fits in corp chat.

Honestly, WOW players are used to a bit more polish and less bugs. EVE may catch a some for a few months, but with the crazy learning curve, and the fact that the leveling system is watching a timer instead of active participation, I don't think it's a natural move.
That's just my opinion.

Edited by: Franz Zjivago on 08/07/2011 02:07:15 I played hardcore in everquest from 99 to 2005, then I was hardcore in wow from 2006 to 2010 now i play EVE fairly casual carebear style with the ocational ganking from so called wets who knows perhaps i will go hard core eve as well, RL not allowing it atm tho
but let me tell you this, some of you old timers need to get down from your high horses, this comunity is just the same as wow or eq for that sake, only thing here is that many seem to be very impressed with their own e-peen, cause there is alot of talk about genetalia in the channels ive been reading.
EVE needs the fresh blood, EVEs biggest problem is the SP fat nullsec hogs whos biggest fear is any disruption to their egocentrical playstyle.
Unfortunately i have to say, the best and most fun ppl i have talked to have been other new players.
I hope with this that i dont insult the wets who understand and have brain enough to realise that a disruption to the force is what EVE needs.
CCP clearly understand this even given their obvious lack of timing and planning skills.
Incarna is the revolution, Rome has to fall for civilisation to evolve beyond gate gankers, spinning ships, SP fat hogs, ISK barons and so on.
When you want to get rid of the old tennants, easiest thing to do is to tear down the house, perhaps its you who are the problem CCP tries to get rid of, the real imbalance to EVE, the real threat to the sandbox.

WoW players would never play a full loot pvp game. They care too much for gear.
