Sanya Weathers (veteran MMO community person) rants a bit:
http://eatingbees.brokentoys.org/2011/06/01/cleaning-out-the-think-twice-file/
quote:
"And carebears shouldnÆt be so sensitive. They outnumber the PVP types so drastically, and modern MMOs tend to be so thoroughly balanced around their needs, that the name should be utterly without sting."
Definitely describes Eve.

Sanya Weathers? What AAA MMO did she design then?
Apart from the fact I've seen longer convention invitations than that 'blog' post, she kinda shoots herself in the face with this:
Quote: ThereÆs no particular honor in making a game that only appeals to feral manchildren with snakelike reflexes.
Business reality ! = best game design ideas.
I'm also increasingly starting to resent all these female 'gamers' who compulsively and relentlessly base all their observations on thinly veiled misandry.

She was the head of the community team at Mythic for Dark Age of Camelot
edit: and I at least remember her being involved in EQ somehow and probably Warhammer Online as well _____________________ Look down. Back up. Where are you? You're on a forum, with the alt your alt could post like. |

Yeah I checked her out before making the post.
You do realize head of community basically means PR/professional liar right?
Judging by the twelve year old type English on her website and her glowing CV (she does a lot of spinning and 'I'm a girl, touch me!' crap on forums) I'd say she isn't qualified to comment on game design. Course its the internet, so we can all talk **** and make believe we're important.

Most definitely. In the days after EA bought out Mythic, i'm pretty sure she was one of the ones out there selling how 'no changes were coming' and Mythic would still be Mythic...a hilarious lie, especially in retrospect
then again, it also means she'd be the person talking to both the community and the game designers, explaining the issues of one to the other (and she was fairly active in that when i played DAoC, v0v). She's as qualified as anyone to speak about game balance, imho. _____________________ Look down. Back up. Where are you? You're on a forum, with the alt your alt could post like. |

Well, she has several comments but the one I pointed out was interesting to me. Once you think about it, even a game like Eve where there are no truly safe zones, is 90% PvE with less than 10% of the population engaged in any meaningful PvP (judging by the reports CCP puts out periodically).

This is because finding meaningful, fun, fair, pvp is in many cases extremely time consuming and/or difficult to find.
I just don't have the time to look for a fight in Eve.
