Wow I think this may be the first time a team advances without killing a single ship. So far this tournament isn't living up to the hype. Too much confusion on rules, organization and execution. Also it's getting kinda repetitive seeing minmatar fleets and tengus every match. I hope we get to see some more creative fleets and fights with the group stage. Good luck to those who made it to the next round, please try to make it memorable.

The R0NIN are the team that are through without killing any ships.
While I accept CCPs decision I am obviously disappointed that the rules have not been interpreted in our favour regarding the way the ranking system work. Ultimately that we failed to get in is down to losing our second match due to mistakes when we should have won comfortably.
In light of the whole situation for next year assuming a similar system is used I would suggest that the rules are amended to quite clearly state that rule 2 takes into account all ranking factors not just W/L and points as stated. As things stand if we were goons or any other larger entity you would be in for a massive amount of whining because strictly speaking the way the rules are worded ECHO and Test's ranking from just W/L and points should be used and not the other deciding factors especially as potentially those other deciding factors could end with a huge chain which actually ends up being circular.
Secondly in regards to the R0NIN as i mentioned in a previous thread technically the rules did cover it and by the letter of the rules they should not have received the bonus points from the handicap. I also said in that post that i would not dispute things if we lost out because of it (i had a feeling those words might come back to bite me) however what I will say is that again for next year there should be a section added to the rules covering this and personally I feel as I'm sure most others will that the handicap bonus should not be applied. Not because we lost out but because to be perfectly honest the fact that a team the killed not a single ship in a tournament based on combat (and they cant say they did not have a chance they had opponents for their first fight and killed nothing) managed to get through to effectively the second round while other teams (not just us SF and Ignore this were in the same boat) that not only killed every ship in one fight but also scored kills in their other fight should not get through just looks fairly silly.

Having a team advance without killing a single ship is an absolute joke. It shows this 5v5 pre-qual stage for the un-thought through, farsical attempt to reduce the amount of teams by 2 without having to put any effort into it that is really is. ______________________________

lol, surely your "bonus" for fielding more points than the other team (or however it was worded) was not intended to provide this sort of result.
yet again CCP is presented with a scenario where they opt to do nothing instead of doing what is right.

I am still of the opinion that the amount of points awarded to The RONIN is incorrect given the rules CCP has. It should only be 62.5 points.
They did not field more than their opponent in their second match and should not receive the additional handicap points for only fielding 34 themselves.
The rules very clearly state that those points are for fielding less then your opponent, and let me check my math, yep 0 is still less than 34.
This should have been the easy part. You have a set of rules that are the most clearly defined in any of the tournaments, why even make the rule if you aren't even going to abide by it yourselves.

I have to agree with this one. You very clearly stated what I have been thinking for two days. How can you award bonus points to The R0NIN for fielding "fewer" ships than their opponent when their opponent didn't field any at all?
This wasn't a "victory" for The R0NIN, it was a forfeiture for UFA. The R0NIN should not have even been granted the "win" bonus of 25%, in my opinion, but the added bonus for fielding less than 50 points is a travesty.
Just one more rule for CCP to try and get right next tournament since I am sure they feel it is too late to try and fix the problem now.

That would be penalizing the R0NIN for their opponent not showing up - nothing fair about that.
also RONIN > EMO so tourney is better off this way

Yeah I think the main issue is that RONIN stood no chance of getting through if they didn't get the extra points, and so it would be stupid to punish them for the other team not showing up. I think the rules are badly written/designed in this case since you should never be put at a disadvantage because your opponent brings less points than you (say if they only brought one Destroyer, it would completely destroy RONIN's chances at progressing for no logical reason), however with the rules as they are you have to work within their limitations and I think the right decision was made.

No, ronin stood no chance of advancing because the got shut out the first round. Had the other team shown up with 30 points they would still have no chance. They would not be penalized if they were trying to risk something. It's a risk that according to the rules should have failed.
At this point I'd like to see a ronin v emo fight to decide it. Seems a fair way to resolve this since ccp already screwed it up by not following the rules as written.

I think I'm going to go whine on the disapointment thread. RONIN should not have made it with no kills. They deserved an oportunity to get kills on the 2cd round but 0 kills is a joke. On that note Important Internet Spaceship League got one teir 1 battlecruiser to 10% hull left. If they had killed it hey would have qualified. Thats gotta suck.
