I actually liked the white rings around active cloaks.
Good job with this update though, the UI engine transition went smoother than anyone had a right to expect IMO.

Good job on the patch. So far I haven't had any probe names disappearing. And I can see my cap level regardless of the BG colour. _________________________________________________________________

Same here. The green tint can sometimes be difficult to see depending on the background of the solar system. The white ring made it clear.

I have to agree, as I know many other do. This was an improvement top the UI which made it very clear at a glance they were on and solved all the "better press again oh I died" problems. You accidentally did something positive then reversed it. It seems almost as if it was fixed because it was unintended rather than the UI department having input.
Conversely the capacitor is still semi transparent yellow, ship hp is still grey and damage indication is still red/brown. They were bright, vibrant colours for 6+ years because they are the 3 most important pieces of information screen. They need to be clear, easily read at a glance and viewable under all conditions within the game environment. I'd be fascinated (really) to hear the ergonomic input the UI team had which lad them to believe that washed out colours which are obscured by the glow of engines, world effect and suns thus rendering them unreadable is improvement. Rendering information unreadable is regression, no?
This is one of those things which simply will not go away as you push UI "improvements". It's bad for pvpers and it's going to produce complains from people whom the pvpers are pvping that don't notice the cap drying up or hp going down. Bring back the bright hp, damage and cap colours. Add the cloak rings, deliberately this time.
In summary. Cloaks are now less visible (bad). Capacitor, ship hp and damage are still less visible (bad). -------------------------

Edited by: Ingvar Angst on 07/06/2011 17:16:17 I have to throw my hat into the white ring with everyone else... that was nice! If possible, please bring that UI friendly feature back.
Please?
And yes... the capacitor really needs a solid background.

Gonna have to agree on the HUD transparency. Over a light background (sun, bright nebula, heavy FX), the feedback is way too hard to read. 1.6.1 only half fixed the cap readout. It's now minimally readable on a white BG, but it's still not clear at a glance in all circumstances as it should be. Same goes for the green glow and white timer rings. They are only clearly read at a glance when the BG is midtone to dark.
PvPers (and sometimes carebears) depend on well-informed snap judgements. We can't make them when reading our HUD requires squinting and/or camera repositioning.
If you can give us the shiny and the usability, awesome. Make it the latter if there can be only one.

I have to agree on the UI shinyness vs usability issue. The transparency is totally pointless, since you can't see through the cap readout and you can move it, so it was never blocking your view anyway. All the transparency and shiny effect currently does is make vital information harder to read. At least get rid of the transparency or allow me to remove it as a preference without affecting anything else.

Client crashes still when jumping, and at random times. Run up to 3 clients. Crashes may or may not be linked to an event (session change etc.) but USUALLY on session changes. Crashes may or may not be on background client. For or five crashes in less than 20 min trying to go 6 jumps. This is not a game, this is a task. An unplesant, and enrageing task.
Computer is up to date with drivers and Microsoft "patches". Antivirus up to date with a top rated program. Computer passes all diagnostic checks. No other programs hang, crash, freeze, or behave as if posessed with demonic gremlins. Game ran fine before last major "patch".
Fault = CCP's last major patch.

I havent been playing for that long but almost every patch feels like a "lets see what happens" kind of deal. Im i going to be reimbursed for loss of game time or is it up to me to just accept this kind of thing?
I dont m ind that much but it feels wrong some how.

before 1.6 was released i could play eve fine on
2 x 2.66 dual core Macpro 1.1 1mb ram osx 10.5.8 Nvidia 7300GT and was gettin like 20fps in space about which was fine
then patch 1.6 came and just was no longer playable on that machine
So i have spent like ú150 on more ram and osx update
so my machine is now
2 x 2.66 Dual core Macpro 1.1 5mb Ram Osx 10.6.7 Nvidia 7300gt but i am still experiencing slower fps than i was originally on the pre updated machine, pre 1.6.
Now i realise that i probably did need to upgrade my machine as seems the min requirements for mac have increased, but still, i dont see any real reasons that the min requirements have gone up that much so as 5Gb ram isnt enough to get bta than 7-10fps in station??? and not much more in space, maybe 10 - 12 on on good system not amarr
I am going to upgrade the graphics hopefully for the reccomended 8800GT for mac if all things go well(hopefully thanks to a ace dude),
But i just would like to clarify that this WILL help my fps wont it CCP? ok i will be able to see the character editor and stations when incarna drops, but, will my normal FPS outside stations go up also?
thanks, Templar
The new fix is a start tho idd

Just to make sure I'm reading your problem right, You mean GIGABYTES right? I can not imagine you using anything, INCLUDING a browser, on a computer using 1 MEGABYTE of ram? And as far as I have seen, No real problems on my Nvidia 7600 GS. |

We have also experienced the following issues, which weren't mentioned in the patch notes:
- Mouseovering bookmarks in solar system map view doesn't show their labels - Sometimes when changing tabs on the market window, it slides apart (I don't have a screenshow), and becomes unuseable. Re-opening it fixes it for a while - While docked at the stations the clients are eating far more CPU/GPU than they do in space - Selecting a station for a market order has the focus on the OK button in the station selection window, and it should be where it was prior to this CarbonUI patch, in the input box for typing - Sometimes the inspace HUD freezes, the ship is not rendered, can't rotate the viewpoint, can't do anything with control, changing to map/PI mode and back doesn't help, have to relog for that - Default ordering direction of columns in enforced. Like the log's timestamp ordering is _always_ on oldest-to-newest(up-to-bottom), regardless I always set it to newest-to-oldest. - The log window never stays open across relogs, it used to stay open whenever we've opened it.
So far that's all I can remember, but sure there're a few i've missed.
So, when can we expect a patch also for these issues (to get us back to where we were before this 1.6 carbon thingie, in functionality, err, forward!) that won't break already fixed features?

I too notice the following, some of which are directly pulled from Magic Crisp's list, but added onto:
STARTING UP: No sound for about a minute. Also (to quote Magic Crisp) "While docked at the stations the clients are eating far more CPU/GPU than they do in space". I agree. In fact, I've noticed an amazing increase in what I guess I now personally call "station lag"... especially when working with labs and the market.
THE BIG KICKER: I set up a public channel over 1.5 years ago. It wasn't until July 6 or 7th that the window would take up 30-50 seconds of frozen time, then load up a blank chat window. I see no MOTD nor any text, however, everyone else says it's fine and they see what I type. I appear not to have any rights to change anything (which I thought changing the MOTD would reset something)... Nope. So, I have filed a petition, but this honestly makes no sense.
MARKET: Sometimes when changing tabs on the market window, it "slides apart". In actuality, I've noticed this when placing corporate purchase orders, making hte order, and tabbing to corp orders shows the listing of Buy Orders in a "table/column" whose height is higher than the height of the window itself. And YES, the only solution is to CLOSE and REOPEN.
ORDER OF THINGS: "Default ordering direction of columns is enforced." In fact, no amount of clearing/resetting cache will fix this. It's like my old bug report of "Window Amnesia" only now it's Window Content Amnesia". And I, too, set columns newest-to-oldest, but they never remain.
STILL UNANSWERED/IGNORED ISSUE: Are "standings" a forbidden issue to discuss or something, because I refuse to let it be yet another issue that "CCP hopes I'll just forget..." like CCP has done many times with many issues in the past [bug reports filed for proof]. I have yet to really read any official response considering all the frictional feedback and issue threading from so many people wanting standings back. I personally would be content with just FACTION standings only... because how else am I going to be able to see how our corp-average standing is doing with certain space for POS anchoring, and also who and who is not doing well in areas that may be dragging the corp(s) down with sovereign space)s)? It is a vital hiring tool for many CEOs, it is also an assisting aid for those in need of mission help (and peer assessment) and it appears to be even vital for players of the PVP and hunting persuation. I think everyone's need for faction standings to be publicly viewing is logical and necessary for this game to continue as intended... Otherwise, what's the point of standings anymore?
That's all for the moment... And I'm sure there's more ahead.

The following points have been mentioned in previous posts in this thread and the original Incursions 1.6 feedback thread. But they need to be re-emphasized because the client UI design changes unnecessarily make the user experience more challenging.
* Transparent HUD: What more can be said about this abomination? Both the capacitor and damage gauges need to be significantly more opaque and possibly larger. It is still very difficult to clearly discern the readouts when the camera is turned towards anything other than black space.
* Check Boxes: Somehow, these UI elements have become smaller and not quite as easy to visually discern.
* Radio Buttons: Using the PI-based Import / Export radio buttons on the Customs Office window, it takes either an experimental click or additional visual inspection to discern which button is selected. The gray coloring of the unselected button is the issue.
* Scroll bars: FFS. Scroll bars may look fancy with the new gradations, but they sure as hell are more difficult to visually pick out and use.
There is a common theme here: Either I am going blind as a bat or these UI changes have rendered many of the most important functional UI elements less user-friendly.
Suggestions for improvement:
1) Improve contrast on and increase the size of high-use UI elements.
2) Read up on good web site user interface design (Jakob Nielsen) and take some pointers. |

I see a lot of posts about the CTD thingie. I tryed to reproduce it on the following machine:
- Windows 7 x64 Ent
- Intel Core Duo E8200
- 7 GB Ram
- ATI Radeon HD 5570 (1GB RAM)
Up to date drivers and sofware, only thing i dont have is CCC (the crapy ATI Controll Panel)
I tested this CTD thingie in the following mode, while playing on another character:
- Windowed Mode.
- Full Screen Mode.
- Fixed Window Mode.
No matter what i tryed, i dint get my game to crash dint even get past 75% CPU stress ...... What ever the issue is its not related to me, nor can i replicated this issue. Befor the patch i was still unaware of this ongoing problem and was working with 3D Studio Max while flying on AP true empire on a alt todo shopping and had a 2nd toon hanging @ a POS. The AP client was minimized atm and i was making a UWV mapping for he sake of learning to UWV map. But even that dint seem to bother my Fixed Window Client.
Tryed to help but cant replicated , sorry peeps hope the issue gets located soon (try looking at DEP issues/Virus/Malware protection or other 3rd party sofware that might be in the way).
Ow yeah, and Cap reading is a lot easyer now, altho i think you guys forgot about colored space ........... you cant miss the clue there
