Let's make this the official thread to demonstrate that CCP does indeed have a fan base that is actually excited about these developments. Dust 514 is closer than anyone ever expected, forum trolls have been raging that it'll be years before we see any Dust/Eve crossover, and now we're a year away. CCP has surprised us all.
X up in this thread if you plan on playing Dust, if you are excited about Dust, if you will buy a PS3 to play Dust.
Haters, you have 87 other threads to spew **** and vinegar in, so please take your comments there, lets keep this on topic. I want to hear some sounding off from those that actually BELIEVE in CCP, admire them for taking risks, and not selling out their vision to be creatively controlled where they wanted their freedom.
The nasty attitude by bitter Xbox users, or those who think Eve's spaceship game is "totally broken / abandoned" (but still pay for their accounts every month and complain but not enough to actually stop playing), makes me ashamed to be part of such a community.
There are plenty of video game companies out there playing it safe (Halo 4 anyone? Final Fantasy XXIVCMXCVII? Call of Duty 83?) and cloning their IP to death, in order to make money. CCP is taking a creative and financial risk, a huge one, by limiting themselves to one console, and if you love Eve the least you can do is give them the benefit of the doubt and wait till release to review and rage. Bless them for wanting to continue the spirit of releasing content FOR FREE which M$ would never allow.
You cant stop this, Dust is coming, it will be awesome, but only if the players make it so. Dust will merely be a set of tools to create your own shooter experience, and I sure as hell hope that its all the awesome pilots I've gotten to fly with over the years that will take up rifles next to me, and not the nerdrage naysayers spamming the hell out of our forums right now.

LOL I don't actually care if people "X" or not. It's just an expression... Nor is this a poll, Lady Spank. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, I support everyone's right to post comments, negative or otherwise. I simply am starting a thread for those of us to speak up that ARE excited about Dust, and plan to play it. CCP deserves to know we exist, and we support them, despite the haters being the loudest on the forums at the moment.
.... and if CCP doesn't like what I have to say so be it, lock away :)

Aren't 90% of the post on these forums people antagonizing each other for having a valid opinion.
This is a rather ironic event.

Yes yes, in full disclosure, I am a complete tool paid in endless plex by Sony, CCP, and Hilmar himself.....cause who could possibly have a positive opinion about Dust 514 and be willing to share it for free? Thats just silly.
As long as they keep dropping iskies in my account every day, I'll keep my lips tightly wrapped around CCP's ginormous 3p33n and drinking the sweet kool-aid of wishful thinking. :)

I wonder if "Death Stars" could now have planetary-based shielding instead of Strontium? (Yes, like Endor) It would certainly take some of the boring out of POS takedowns!

Never much had a reason to pick up a PS3 but in a year I warrant I'll have a very good reason to finally buy one.
Count me in the numbers who not only support CCP but will likely buy and entire gaming system because of them =)

Even though I am one of the folk with an Xbox which is disapointed I won't be able to play Dust as I was really looking forward to it but I won't buy a PS3 full stop, Not untill they fix the seriuos issues with what ever is causing these info leaks ect and that it goes down in price rapidly and even then I proberly would'nt buy one, Only tempted so I could play Dust, How ever I will hope for a PC release.
I do like this thread, Finaly some optimism about the game although I must point out that compaired to all the other threads and posts and this one thread with few posts, It is clear they went with the wrong console for sales (My opinion based on observation.) Just look at the number complaining to... Well this one thread with a couple of posts (I know there will be more eventualy but still.) Yet you make a valid point about micrsoft wanting to make money out of it, Yeah they do but your paying for the reliabilty of service and security that you won't get from Sony as been proven by Sony. Lol. Although I'm sure CCP has made up there mind and will release it to PS3 now regardless, They have made up there minds and I hope it does'nt back fire on them or on to EVE and it's player base, That's my main consern is if Sony mess up the EVE players, Cause if they do then Sony is screwed and maybe even CCP, Yet I'm sure they will take measure to prevent that.
I do how ever wish the best to all you mercs and perhaps I may consider hiring depending on how good things go with the game, If it turns to be a big pile of steam then I will avoid with all pleasure but if I hear Dust rockets wih activity (Which ATM I doubt.) then I'll consider taking part even if my first impressions was "FU CCP." From what I'm hearing it's not CCPs fault it's not on Xbox but rather MS and if that's true they may change there mind in due course when they see a massive market for the game on Xbox. Yet only time will tell, My main consern is info going to Sony, Cause if CCP shares major info that Sony could lose as it's done with it's own customers, I'm leaving EVE, Yet I hope to god that won't happen, Cause if it does that WILL be the end of CCP and EVE. Heavy Rain should be near the top of the list, if you're into the whole multiplayer FPS then you really should get MAG (it's been out for a while so it should be cheap now)
And they got that pic on the site "For the State"
I recommend For the Republic!

I already know this but it says "Today" they won't he sharing, Giving me the inclanation they will share something with Sony eventualy and if so, What ? I know it's hard to say and it's been very vague to far but a more detailed answer would be helpfull as I don't consent to Sony getting any of my personal details and if your terms and conditions change that means I can't play EVE because of Sony and that would be rubbish cause I love playing EVE.
But if they get stuff that does'nt matter like my player name I could'nt care about that as it does'nt pose me any threat. |

This is actually making me consider buying a PS3.
I don't own any of the current generation consoles and it would be a good time to buy one as they have gotten to reasonable price levels.
Of course Dust isn't the only game I'm interested in on PS3, but currently the ones have not been that good I'd get a new platform. This might be enough to tip the scales.
Still, I'll wait for more info on Dust before making any decisions but as long it isn't a pay-to-win I'm certainly interested.

I'm not purchasing the game for several personal reasons, but I am excited about a new and unprecedented addition to the EVE universe.
I'm not too worried about the forum haters; this stupid vocal minority will always find something else to hate when they get bored of themselves. The important thing is to not pay any significant attention to the mob and try to collect all the necessary information about the game instead.

Edited by: J Kunjeh on 08/06/2011 10:43:20 I'll be first in line for the beta, and will be pimping this to anyone I know with a PS3 (and if it's as good as I expect it will be, then I'll start convincing people to buy a PS3 so they can play it). I'm fully behind CCP on this one...brilliant moves so far, now hopefully the game lives up.
From my perspective, if you ever needed a reason to get a PS3, this is it. I certainly never needed a reason to get any of the major consoles, but I have so far hesitated on picking up any of their portables since the original GameBoy, but I will be getting a PSVita as soon as Dust514 hits the ether. ~Gnosis~ |

If it were available on PC then I might give it a try but since it's developed with crappy console controllers in mind I won't buy it (even if there will be a PC port). And I definitely will not buy some crappy game console just because of some silly shooter.
Basically any shooter that requires an aim-bot to play was developed on the wrong platform and is not worth the money.
Shame tho... Sometimes I really feel like playing a shooter and I definitely would have given Dust a try. But if CCP doesn't want more of my money.. well, what can I do?

Really glad CCP went with sony as it would be hard to justify buying a 360 when I'm not big on console gaming and it only plays standard definition films, would be a waste of a good telly. Excited to see how dust expands New Eden too.

I won¦t, but I still guess you are right. PS3 is thanks to sony track record no option for me.
And hey, exclusive titles rarely stay exclusive, so we can still hope for more platform support. *shrug* Still I strongly suggest you check your reasoning as your whole post is lacking logic. You really think is taking a huge financial risk freely with just supporting ps3? Either sony compensated them very well for their risk or they could not work it out with microsoft to release the game on xbox live anyway. If you want tp praise CCP for taking risk, you are looking into the wrong direction, World of Darkness seems to be the far greater risk ;-)
Furthermore you asking that we give them the benefit of the doubt till release, which again does not make sense. The displeasure of many is not based on low expectations of the game, it is based on Sony. Sony screwed up in the last ten years on so many placed it ain¦t funny (hardware problems since the ninetieths [planned obsolescence with premium prices] , rootkits, DRM madness, defective media, they sued thousands of their paying customers for minor copyright infringements, lost over 100 million of customer data, poor security on their networks, clear text passwords, and no encryption on logins, etc). If dust 514 will be as great as everyone is hoping displeased people will be even more ****ed about the platform choice.

Still, I'll wait for more info on Dust before making any decisions but as long it isn't a pay-to-win I'm certainly interested.

Edited by: Neamus on 08/06/2011 12:38:07 Edited by: Neamus on 08/06/2011 12:37:21 I'd very much like to play Dust when it arrives, but honestly I just cant justify purchasing a new console for the sake of one game. I don't hate CCP for their decision to make it PS3 exclusive, but I do feel somewhat disappointed and puzzled.
I have a 360, and tbh if Dust was released on the 360 I would not play it, I just cant stand playing shooters without a keyboard and mouse. I understand that the PS3 supports keyboard and mouse though? More power to PS3 owners if it does...
But what puzzles me is why its not to be released on the PC, after all CCP already have a built in fan-base with PC owners... Maybe the sales figures wouldn't be as high as console sales, but they would still be significant, and I'd also take bets that the PC player base would last longer than their console brethren. Lets face it, most console games have a life measured in months, nothing when compared to the 8 odd years that EVE has been going. Its much more difficult to keep games up-to-date and relevant on a console.
Some people may claim its a cross platform integration issue, KB+mouse vs controller etc. And maybe there is an element of that, but surely there must be a way of balancing it. Even if it means keeping console players and PC players on separate planets.

I would never buy a PS3 or an XBOX to play one game, they are both very old hardware now, 720 is slated for release i believe & a PS4 is rumored, I think CCP should have waited until a bit closer to release to hitch itself to one wagon like this. A lot can change in one year in this industry.
If it's not on PC I won't be playing it, it's that simple, most ppl who use consuls don't like to FPS on them anyway so the whole idea seems ****eyed to me.

Will be there with bells on too. For all the 360 owners who are harping on the fact that PS Network got hacked. The pentagon has been hacked, the IRS has been hacked, most countries government sites have been hacked. The only reason I see that the 360 Live network hasn't been hacked is who cares to hack it. It wasn't untill Sony ****ed off the hacker community that a concerted effort was made to hack it. Trust me, if an organized attack were to take place against 360 Live, they too would be hacked. It's MICROSOFT for gods sake. The PC is hacked constantly.

Originally by: Hans Jagerblitzen Let's make this the official thread to demonstrate that CCP does indeed have a fan base that is actually excited about these developments.

Here's hoping the "never say never" part in Torfi's interview on Rockpapershotgun.com - when referring to Dust always being a PS3 exclusive holds true. Yes, I have concerns of Dust - but I DO want to play it. It's a pretty sweet idea linking EvE and Dust into one massive online game.
However, all this doesn't matter because I'm not buying a PS3 for one freaking game. ><

Dust looks sweet, and I'd like to play it, but I'm not doing it with a child's toy console controler. FPS = mouse and keyboard only. I haven't heard any word about this yet, but I'd assume like all console FPS in order to make multiplayer gameplay "fair" players are limited to game controlers only. --------------

I believe they removed backwards compatibility somewhere in the last few iterations of the PS3. A few years ago I traded my new 40g for the first generation 60g, which was backward compatible on the hardware side (Emotion Engine) rather than software emulation only. I think the newer ones (slims and such) aren't backward compatible at all. ~Gnosis~ |

No need to worry about backwards compatibility and Dust. CCP has stated one of the reasons they picked the PS3 was BECAUSE of the ease of porting the client over to the new hardware once its released. Players will simply download the updated client onto that console and keep on playing without skipping a beat. (well, any more than any other patch situation.)
Micro$oft would probably have required them to release a Dust 514-2 and charged 75 bucks to buy a new game disk.

This thread and its multiple CCP comments supports what I've stated before elsewhere - the more flames, insults, and CCP trolling a thread contains, the less likely CCP is to respond. People don't know how to ask nicely for anything anymore, if the game isn't to their liking they will unleash disrespectful garbage that assumes all kinds of things that no one could actually know for certain (like how exactly CCP spends their time or what their true motivations are), hiding behind the protection forums and an avatar provide them.
I know it sounds trite, but I really think the ruder people are the more CCP de-prioritizes their requests. I would if I were them.

Originally by: Amber Accelerando Hans, consuls are rife with aimbots, how else are you gonna top score with a controller?
Well, thanks for making me feel less like I suck at shooters, now that I can blame bots for never being top score. However, I'm pretty confident that Dust 514 will not be the type of game that attracts players that needs competitive top scores to give them satisfaction.
There will be a lot more at stake than scores, and lets be honest, if they give us 10% of the freedom to fit and finance Dust soldiers that we have in EvE, it wont be balanced enough for scores to be that significant. As in EvE, Isk efficiency and the bottom line will be a far greater preoccupation than headshot count. And if CCP is wise, 0.0 territorial control will depend on ground troops to maintain, and alliances will ensure themselves victory in all kinds of nefarious ways at any cost.
I'm sure there will be "blob warfare" in Dust 514, along with ganks, backstabbing, and plenty of bribed, fixed, fights. It will be dynamic, and it will be fun. But it won't be balanced, and it won't be fair.
CCP is banking on this. That's precisely why most people play EvE, and it will be the reason behind Dust's success, if it succeeds.
Thanks for all the ongoing support guys, keep it coming!

I do not own a PS3 and probably wont get one now that I have a stand alone blu-ray player and also a blu-ray in my computer now too. (which is one reason i was going to buy a PS3) but everyone I know with a PS3 is being told about Dust 514 by me. ------------------------------------------

If what this article says is true:
"Farrer told me that while playing EVE Online on the server where DUST was being tested, he saw some activity on a planet as he was flying by it in space. He got close to the planet and looked close, and he see the combat raging below, and got a sudden message in his chat box: ôHello!ö It was the Dust player on the surface of the planet who had seen his ship above him in the sky and sent a message of greeting. Let me state that in simple terms: a PC EVE Online player flying a space ship could see and communicate with a PS3 player shooting on the ground of the planet."

Awesome. Much as I love FPS, there is little lasting appeal in any of them for me because climbing a board doesn't feel like a contribution to a war effort. Dust will change that. It's going to be a mad old gun fight that will shape the universe.
I'm going to imagine everyone of you is my mother in law. Expect to die a painful death.

CCP nice move to isolate yourself to a single console. Although I rarely will play a FPS, if I do it's on a PC. I have an xBox 360, would have probably bought the game but no way in hell am I going to spend the money on a PS3. I am even less inclined to want to gamble on a PS3 because they can't protect personal data or credit card information.
I would have rather you'd taken my eve subscription revenue and paid some investment bankers to go public that way you're screwing your shareholders instead of the players. Blow me.

I have already voiced my opinion on Dust in a different thread and I just don't see the appeal anymore with a shooter set in the EVE universe when there are far more interesting titles on the horizon for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC. Dust 514 is a bold concept that for certain will attract a certain crowd but that will ultimately suffer the same fate as the PS3 title MAG.
Had Dust 514 been a RTS title, I'd be all over it.

I just read that from an interview, and I noticed the health in the trailer only went down, so I think that's a yes.
Which like you say, is awesome. I hope Dust brings some meaningful gameplay back to online shooters.

I'd argue that both EvE and Dust are RTS games, the difference being that you control only a single unit at a time, and not everyone's the commander. Ask any seasoned EvE FC, they have as many units to worry about as you would in a game like Homeworld, and they move and give orders to them in real time. You simply have a human brain inside each unit instead of A.I.
As for Dust, I'm pretty sure there is a tactician role (probably whoever is aboard the war barge) that can see the battlefield from an overhead perspective and issue orders to the ground troops below, Starcraft style. Maybe that idea hasn't made it in this far into development but I seem to recall that being an intended part of Dust as well.

I might get a ps3 for this.. I have and xbox but having two systems and a computer is always a great idea. How will eve players communicate to the dust players ? eve chat/voice, eve mail or just contracts? Doing an assault on a system will be hard to coordinate with dust players since they can't get on Vent or TS, so can eve voice go cross platform?
So when the game launches who's going to throw a billion isk on their new Dust character so you can get all the shiny new stuff from the start ?

[X] I will be getting Dust 514 on my blu-ray player that doubles as a video game system (PS3)
I like xbox 360 and xbox live better... But keep in mind people, CCP wanted the game on Xbox; Microsoft did not. If they did, it would be there. Can you imagine if Eve had isk, aurum, and Microsoft points lol ? Hopefully MIcrosoft comes around on this issue and is more inviting to MMO makers in the future. Looks like it will be to late for Dust though.

Well put. CCP set a standard for themselves and their vision for the game, and would certainly do multiple consoles if the console makers could accommodate their design. The PS3 exclusivity is a Microsoft fail, not a CCP fail.
I like CCP's "field of dreams" design mentality: If you build it, they will come.
They know they're going to make a kickass game, and while it may not beat Halo or COD commercially, or hook that entire crowd, the goal is to make something cool, put it out there, and let the community figure out what to do with it. Fratboys running around calling people f a g s all the time and those obsessed with arbitrary leaderboards probably wont get/enjoy Dust 514, and thats fine.
I'm sure EvE was trolled when it first was created, and the learning curve, ability to grief, were probably called out as reasons it will never beat WoW and will fail. And here we are, bigger and better than ever. Dust will be no different, given enough time.

[X] I'm excited for Dust, and will buy a PS3 to play it, because someone has to defend my poor PI colonies!
...Will Dust players be able to attack PI installations, and spawn shooter maps that way? I could see using a harvester field map, a launchpad map, an advanced manufacturing plant map, etc, skinned for various planet types. Perhaps the Dust capturables will be a totally new set of structures to be integrated with PI?
