This isn't a bug so to speak so I am just going to make a thread here and hope CCP sees it.
When I fire my guns (I've tried lasers and 425mm rails) on a target the locked target screen shows a little brown blurry object that i guess is supposed to be a little icon of my guns. They look horrible and I mistook it for a small astroid (I'm not kidding) until I realized it was stuck next to the targeted item.
Please either clean up those icons or just use the old ones until this is fixed.

Same problem with fitting window, when guns are not loaded with ammo, it's very difficult to see them and when the gun is offline it becomes almost invisible.
(I have a dark something theme, might be related)

Agreed. Since CCP started "improving" the UI the capacitor is (still) broken and now we may have to live with useless gun icons. They are way to dark and to hard to tell apart.

Yes, the icons next to the target are too dark.
The other problem with the new turret icons is that they are not distinctive enough. They're all dark boxy blobs, and you can't really distinguish one type of turret (or salvager or tractor) from another at a glance like you can with the "old" icons.

Below is my humble opinion:
Yes the icons need to be distinctable at a glance. The new ones are like photograpic images of the models itself. Minmatar guns are too brown, i can't tell them apart unitl i stare at them for like 5 seconds.
They need to be simpler. Either by making them kinda abstract images, of wich that we know that it is a gun, the other is a mining laser not a weapon, and so on. Or a better image of the gun itself. But i think that will still give a lot of confusion when out in space glancing at the hud's weapon icons.
The different weapons of a given size and type should be almost the same, differ only by a + barrel or a bigger sized gun image, that indicates that it packs a bigger punch. Example: the 425mm AC has some kind of a gun icon, like the old one, the 650mm AC has the same icon but with + barrels or bigger barrels, or something like that. And the Artilleries too have their unique but very similar icon too.
The icon needs to tell me in a simple way that I'm using a S,M,L or XL gun, and if it is a short (AC, Pulse, blaster, rocket, etc.) or a long range (ARty, Beam, Tachyon, Rail, etc.) weapon, nothing else. The different models are there for the enemy to know what type and wich weapon i'm using. I know what i have fitted on my ship.
I hope this gets changed!

In my opinion. Keep the old icons like they are now. Perhaps design them new to look more like the now remodeled Guns but stick with pre made icons and no 3D Rendering Pictures as they are now too complex (nice for the 3d model, bad for the icon). It works well for ships because most eve ships differ in their alot shape. But turrets nearly all have the same base shape so its hard to differ them. Also its now very hard to find the turret you need in your hangar. It takes alot of time to render the icon (so lag while scrolling)and even these big icons are hard to recognize. If you stick with 3d rendered Icons then please do server side renderings like you do with character pictures. |

It's probably safe to say that the graphical icons you are seeing right now are a work in progress.

Maybe, but then again they might not be. We lose nothing by giving feedback on the issue/feature.

just giving them a lightly colored outline to clearly define the silhouette would be enough.

Work in progress? really? For a 30x30pixel icon? I doubt it...
There would be no point in releasing "placeholder" style icons, since a) we already had them, and b) they're so quick and easy to make.

Opening and scrolling through a container with lots of guns/lazors in it is very laggy when scolling in the gun section. the new guns are garbage, bring back the old ones. |
