My first Loki set me back nearly 2.2bil, 2 weeks later its replacement bit the dust, another 2b-ish. Needless to say I stopped fitting them like that.
However, my 2 year old, Meta-14 Mach refuses to die when I do stupid things with it, and I have a feeling I would cry IRL if I ever lost it.

3 weeks ago i lost my raven that was faction fitted with 4 cnbcu, large pith b repairer and was stable.
The mission specifically told me that they had warp scramblers in the missions. I laughed it off and didn't even evesurvival the mission to see what the triggers were. Nonetheless i triggered the whole room and was jammed. Then i tried to take out the frig scrambling me but i coulnd't get a lock.
350 mill dollar loss.
I've learned my lesson. Check the guides and don't be an arrogant prick about it.

first loss. rushing to defend a PoS in WH, some asshat gate camp in lowsec popped my first myrm, which took far too long to save for, that had my raging for a while, escpecially after being told i should be grateful, the most recent and annoying, having got bored of losing myrms, i trained battleships, now if the loss had been my fault then ho hum, i'd grab my myrm, **** the rats who took it and salvage the rest, but due to laptop overheat client freezes i regain control to 150 mill worth of losses, fekking drones

Was on world collide, I acidently locked and fired upon the wrong group and agroed the whole lot. Before I could warp out as I knew I was done for if I didnt make it out was scrambled, and good faithful meetball met her death (Apoc Navy)
For a while I sat there and blinked at the screen, then quit the mission. salvaged everything that I had killed, along with meetball, about half a hour after that happening chuckled to myself for a while, laughed it over with a few friends, then thought to myself glad I didnt fit those faction modules today after all :D

Edited by: Larry Wickes on 15/06/2011 03:15:59 I love this thread. I've never lost my MOST prized ship, however I have lost some ships that I did rather like, and mostly it was to my stupidity.
When I first started and was a noob I had a Drake and did Caldari missions and when I got enough LP I got the passive resist mods. At the time they were worth about 50mil each. We were wardecced and I decided to undock. I encountered a Curse, and a couple T1 cruisers, died, and was pretty mad. I wanted to hop in another ship and blow these guys up!! But I knew I couldn't.
I contacted one of the pilots that killed me and asked him how things were going. After talking to him for a little bit just casual talk, I felt better.
Technically the most expensive lost I ever had was a clone of +5's. I just got into Jita and a friend came over, so I minimized EVE to talk to him for a min, oddly, we got on the topic of EVE. So I brought my screen back up and I was in station. I said to myself "I wasn't in station...." 600 ish mil down the drain.
I said to my friend "Someone killed me while we were talking." He said "Really?" I laughed and said "Yeah, Oh well."
The worst losses are as many say; Not because they were expensive, but because you did something stupid, and by stupid, I mean to say your death was avoidable. A few weeks ago I was jumping ships into a staging system. 99% of the time it was blue. The last ship I went to jump in and it was camped by pirates. 2 Machs, a Legion, and Lach vs my Curse.
Well, here's were stupidity kicked in... Only the Lach had a point, and it took the pirates a good 30 seconds to chew through my Curse .... All I had to do was neut the Lach and be on my way.... *Facepalm*
Another time I went to a CTA and on the way a cloaky gang was on intel, five hours later after the op I was tired and wanted to return to my home system - 54 jumps away. Off I went after surviving a fleet fight of 1200. The cloaky gang was still on intel. I was flying a Cerb and manI LOVED that ship. All the lights on it and stuff. About eight jumps in I saw a neut in system and new it was a scout, but I was tired and ignored him.
I jumped through the gate and there they were. At first nothing, however, they all decloaked. I kinda looked at it in disbelief, but then accepted my fate. I was a fool. I was so mad at my stupid mistake that I decided even before I was in my pod that I'll let them pod me to save me the trip.
My most prized ship at the moment I'd have to say is my Phantasm. I LOVE it. Tons of damage and tank for a cruiser.

I don't really have a "Prized ship".
I mean I've lost a bunch of Absolutions that I really liked, but those aren't really "prized" per se, I mean they aren't even anywhere near my most expensive ship....

Edited by: Sefner on 15/06/2011 04:30:46 My 10 month old Megathron qualifies I think.
It survived me being a noob and mission running in it when I was low skilled
It survived living in a C4 wormhole for 2 months being used for combat sites and general defensive duties.
It survived numerous Wardecs in Empire space.
But in its finest incarnation - triple trimarked triple plated, 130k or so Ehp it got bumped out of a friendly POS shield by accident when I was offline and died without firing a shot. Only space pixels but it deserved better - how many ships have you used extensively that have lasted nearly a year?
*Edit - correct use of spacebar (which is what I hope for with Incarna)

Lost my Tengu earlier today. We had a good run. Conquered everything I threw at it. Nullsec ninja ratting, Level 4s, TEST, etc.
And then I got ****y. Went into an L5, got in way over my head. As soon as the shields hit 20% I basically said my goodbyes. It was like one of those touchy feely moments in a movie where a protagonist's love interest dies in his/her arms. There's time for some last words, an "I Love You", and then she was gone.

Yesterday, I bought a shiny new Omen and stacked it up with about 5 million ISK worth of gear. I had been saving up to do this for a couple of months before I started playing, and just resumed playing a couple of days ago. In otherwords, this was my first real purchase since I had stopped playing.
I decided I'd go ahead and try out a level 2 mission. Unfortunately for me, I got this insane mission that had a combination of about 20 elite fighters, lieutenants, and commanders. As soon as I get within 20k, I get hit by a volley of missles that knock out my shields and 25% of my armor. Immediately after that, I get hit by another volley for the rest of my armor as I frantically try to warp out. Right before I warp, I get blown into my escape pod, and the warp initiates with my pod (yes, I was that close to getting out).
After that, I decided to try to run in really quickly in my previous ship, a Coercer, and grab whatever was left from the wreckage. I got the items from the wreckage, and, again, as I tried to warp out was blown up. So, now I was down my new ship, and my trusty old coercer which still had all of its equipment loaded on it.
Luckily, I had some ISK left over and was able to buy a new coercer. I used the SP I had from the learning refund to train the skills to be able to use a microwarpdrive, fitted a warp drive onto my ship, and bought 4 160mm armor plates.
I warped in, immediately hit the warpdrive and went to the wreckage, selected it all into my cargohold and immediately started to warp out.
I got out with 50% of my hull intact -- and I was only in there for about 10-15 seconds. I don't remember the name of the mission, but it was pretty overpowered IMO.
So, I lost my first two ships in the same day, after a hiatus for about a year, and within two days of starting to play again. I guess my feelings at the time could best be described as "enraged."

This was right after Dominion, I was dueling a CNR in my first every Navy Megathron, we went down like a sack of **** and the inevitable basilisk came out and started repping him. No problem, overheat guns and I am still putting out more than that Basilisk can rep and he is chipping into armour between cycles, winning but it's going to be close...
BUMP
Oh look, his other alt in a Typhoon just bumped me 12km off station, MWD no good because he is overloading a faction scrambler, too late to deaggress and dock and I died.

Ugh, losing my first ship (a merlin, in a perma-camped 0.0 system that I reached after jumping through like 40 null sec's exploring), I quit EVE. I may have still been on trial, but that was literally every penny I had at the time. Six months later, I come back, grind from 108.39 isk into a frigate into a destroyer and go on from there, make some friends, and have played ever since. Now when I lose a ship its taken as a lesson- what did I do wrong, what did he do right, followed by a cool rage.

I have lost my most prized ship... 3 times. But only after each loss have I really started to enjoy eve.
My first loss was in my first lowsec venture. I was all "I'm gonna make gazillions of isk out here so I might as well move all my **** here." Took a cormorant and visited a belt. The firsttt belt I go to I meet a vindicator. I just jaw dropped and went wtf is that facemelting beast. Didn't lose too much though so I got over it.
The second was roughest. Got back to eve after a small hiatus and decided to do a lvl4 in my faction fit tengu. I normally keep transversal high enough to avoidmost fire but I just decided to orbit and go akf as my ship chewed on a battleship. Got back from bathrom and found my tengu lodged inside a structure taking armor and going wtf. I was also webbed and scrambled and before I knew it I lost a ship that had made me think isk would never be a problem again. I ragequitted for a week before I talked with corp. Laughed. And worked my way back up and gave up pve.
The 3rd was my favorite. Hurricane. Armor tanked. And managed to get my first kills in it. I even managed to go toe to toe with a marauding tempest that had been hunting corp members before he brought in a falcon alt :p. Had so much fun in it. I finally lost it in a 1v1 vs a harbinger. I sat outside my lowsec hq and was we were smacktalking to see who would incur sentry gun wrath. When he finally gave up we tok it to a bunker and started to fight. I was sweating bullets and frantically trying to make good use of my tracking disruptor to see if I could win. I got him to 10% structure before I popped. I then realized I could have OH'd my guns XD.

Easy to answer, and was a case of pure Karma.
Joined some newb pirate corp, they had very bad FC's so one night I took a fleet out to accually get some kills. I hate lowsec, so took them to 0.0. After setting up a bubble, and camping, we got some nice kills, but there were a few guys in TS just acting like ass's. So I message a few friends roaming close in low sec to get them to come kill the guys in fleet acting up(all of them really).
Was all set up perfect. On of there guys took the long way around, in a Dictor. I move my fleet to the low sec side of the 0.0 gate we were camping. The red fleet I got a hold of was to come right through us and jump.
All went perfect, Reds come through, I send my fleet through after them. And the bubble is waiting for them on the other side. 3 canes, a ferox, and 2 blackbirds down,(nothing major) and my fleet is crying up a storm.
I stayed in my Faction fit dram, on the low sec side. And being a little drunk, I thought the Domi sitting next to me was on of my buddies from the red fleet. Chating up with my friends, not even paying attention, POP. WTF.
Ya I deserved that. And that Domi, that just stumbled by got a really nice kill:)
Short Version. Dont be a A$$.

Edited by: Opusmind Hauler on 15/06/2011 11:16:26 My most expensive loss (1B ISK faction fitted Tengu for highsec PvE) was also the most stupid.
I was just done with a lvl4 and landed at the gate to the next highsec system. There I saw a -10 to our lowsec alliance and decided to tease him a little, by sitting right next to him annoying the crap out of him because he couldn't shoot me in highsec.
Except for the detail, that I shot him in lowsec some weeks prior - meaning he got killrights on me in highsec. D'oh!
I was studying his alignment when this suddenly happened.
Of course the loss of 1B isn't fun, but the way I lost it was extremely annoying - and still haunting me in Corp chat today lol

When I lost my most prized ship... Absolutely furious... It was a Maelstrom that'd i'd built from blueprint having mine pretty much everything I needed myself. It took me months to do but I got there...
The worst bit was that it was a friend and some of their corp mates that blew it up (5 on me)... He's been forgiven for it as it was a hard lesson I needed to learn.

Well i lost a merlin, so i bourght a moa, i lost a moa so i bourght a raven, i lost a navy scorpion, so i bourght a carrier, and am slowly waiting for the skills to train to fly it.
Navy scorpion was the worst, felt rather upset over it, PL had initiated a campaign of harrashing FCON space where i was living back then, and i got hit by some pretty nasty PL members managing to trap me on a gate as i moved it out towards osmeden (i think, not sure which system i was heading for). now, the sad thing is, it actually wasn't fitted, i had stripped it to use its weapons on another ship, and had just thrown it all back into its cargo hold.
Long story short, i was a sitting duck, and everyone found it too funny to undock and help :P.

Edited by: Zuju on 15/06/2011 11:55:49 I still remember the day i lost my first battleship. A typhoon that got me through several wars and to hell and back. Its final act was to Microwarp drive out of a bubble, overloaded and hit about 1200ms.It got me out of the bubble, saving my pod and my implants. Ending up sitting quietly in the POS thinking about the long strange trip that ship got me through over the 16 months I owned it.
I still miss that typhoon. War does not determine who is right, only who is left. |
