Seems CCP's scare tactics worked and it paniced players into selling more PLEX lol.

Jesus christ... I really hope this isn't what they meant when they said they'd step in if plex got crazy... If so, they clearly thought about this as much as they thought about supercaps.

Its fairly obvious that CCP would be happy to directly step in and buy plex if the market values go too low.(creating esk and buying the plex off the market)
But they have no intention of ever stepping in when values get too high(which would be creating plex and selling it for isk.), so they are trying this desperate ploy instead.

Plex prices are through the roof so it is merely a news blurp .. see the same in the daily paper about real world markets.

I doubt this banner was an attempt at moral suasion with the goal of calming PLEX markets, it was an advertisement. The result seems to be the ISK price went down.
Was the price move due to people selling ones they had sitting in a hangar due to fear? Was it new PLEX bought and then sold on the market as some attempted to get in when the ISK price was high? Could it be wise traders knew this was an advertisement and decided they better move their stock before a new supply hits the market?
CCP is a corporation who's motive is ultimately profit. Why put up a banner with the hopes that it would lower the value of a product you sell? The banner was a "get em while they're hot" advertisement.

I'll just throw this out there: CCP is never going to discontinue PLEX, lol that would kill the game like an internal bleed.

Except that they have clearly laid out that they believe plex price stability is in the best interest of the game. Its in their interest to maintain a high plex price in the long term. But an event driven spike doesnt really help them much, it just makes people trust the market less in the long run.

Despite your edit you still got it wrong, it's 'a once only advertisment'. Please think about this next time you choose to sneer at someone for 'being stupid'. ~~~

Would you rather they set a bad precedent for the market and forcibly changed something to make plex go down in price and therefore removing the freedom of the market place in regards to plex, or let the market work itself out?
The less they mechanically interfere the better honestly. Artificial market manipulation would be a bad thing really.
I do realize some things are affected by NPC sell orders and buy orders, but you can still trade those items elsewhere where they do not have NPC order competition. I used to make money on buying BPOs cheap in one region and selling them at a significant markup elsewhere.
Hopefully they won't have to artificially interfere with the market. I think that would be bad for those who do play the market on such things. - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |

CCP have no interest at all in lowering plex prices. The higher they are the more tempted John Q Eveguy is to buy a gtc and sell it. It's not like high prices are causing people not to buy plex.

Better than someone buying a bunch of Plex then panicking and driving down all the margins by under-pricing when they sell. In Rens.

Not sure why you need to look at 3rd party hosting for a picture. Your client fetches the ads from Here and it has the links to the photos AND the clickthroughs..
Personally I hijack the DNS entry for client.eveonline.com and have adverts that tell me how much ccp and the eve community loves me. If I click through I get a random Photo.... ----------- Never Forget the joy of finding a main to link to a scammer alt. N-y-p-h-u-r ! ! |

I would agree with that. So consider, if a price spike is undesirable, then what better opportunity to throw out an advertisement, "PLEX is worth sooo much ISK!" and add some supply to the market, and consequently push the price down.
When we see an pop-up "PLEX aren't worth crap!", then we can make the conclusion that the advertisement is motivated by something other than profit. It was a smart move on CCP's part as a business. They took an advantage of an opportunity to get two birds with one pop-up.

Edited by: Akira Samposeppa on 13/06/2011 02:16:53 What other options does ccp have to regualte plex prices other than directtly influencing them (not good) and "scare tactics" like that ?
Changing account time one gtc (two plex-es) adds to your subscription ? (if for example they change that one gtc gives you 70 days instead of 60 like now)
Imho dont see other options they have.

But they are not going to add plex to the market. That would be giving away game time and is a bad business practice. They cant to do this every time they misstep and cause an unpleasant price spike.
If plex price drop too low on the other hand they will happily buy/remove some off the market. That is basially selling isk directly to customers and stabilizing the market - as long as no one makes a fuss its win/win for CCP.

It is because of the constant flux in the prices of PLEX's I will continue to pay RL money for my subsection $40 is nothing this day and age when it relay comes down to it. What can we buy today that is under $12.95? And in-case anyone wonders how I got that amount 3-month-plan $12.95 per month for 3 months is $38.85.
Then all the isk I earn in game is mine to with what I like, in most cases buy shinies

Meh, wouldn't be able to go to the movies for the price of a plex where I am
Besides: 1 Movie = 190 mins entertainment, 1 Plex = 30 days entertainment

No. Scary for you, but not for anyone with some degree of intelligence. It also seems you've read over "A massive boon for traders".
Rising PLEX prices are something CCP want to avoid. By alerting people to this fact then more players will buy PLEX with cash, due to the better ISK-value they can get out of it. Supply has increased and subsequently, prices have dropped.
Even Tom Gerard's posts are more insightful than yours.
