post hoc ergo proptor hoc.
Anything can be attributed to the drop without picking apart the most minute detail of down to the second market data. It could be that Plexes hit a good price and a number of people just decided to cash out. Or plex prices were up slightly as a result of incarna, and people just so happened to get their paychecks and decided to sell a few, pulling the prices back down.

My feeling was that CCP was calling attention to the high prices in order to keep the isk cost of re-subbing reasonable for its players who depend on in game methods to keep their accounts. Probably a first line of defense against having to interfere with PLEX prices in other ways (as they indicated they would in an emergency).

Plex prices are fine and I can't see anyone interfering no matter how high they go - would be pointless. Not everyone in EVE can play buy buying PLEX with ISK and the free market is controlling that as it should.
Ultimately if more people want to play with PLEX then the price will rise until it encourages more people to sell buy PLEX to sell for ISK.
Sure it will mean that some people will be priced out of playing with PLEX and have to put their hand in their pocket, close down some alts or quit all together. Seems to me that is how it's always been and how it should be, PLEX was never meant to be a free play button just a mechanic to try and discourage RMT by providing a legal route to buy ISK for real money.

Personally I hijack the DNS entry for client.eveonline.com and have adverts that tell me how much ccp and the eve community loves me. If I click through I get a random Photo....
So for a ONCE ONLY advert that is hosted on a remote URL, why the hell do they STORE it on MY computer?
WTF is the point in that?

If you actually clicked on that ad, you went to the CCP site where you buy GTCs. More GTCs sold = lower PLEX price.
There are things CCP can do to lower the PLEX without hurting profits too much. Maybe the reduction in profits would be offset by people keeping or creating extra accounts to be funded with PLEX.
For example, they could keep track of all PLEX destroyed in game. These could then be sold by the Bank of EVE (NPCs). The result to CCP profits would be the same as if those PLEX had not been destroyed. Sure its less money for CCP, but I doubt their business model is reliant on players blowing up PLEX.
Or CCP could make this offer to all subscribers who pay for their subscription with real money : "Convert 30 days of your subscription to a PLEX! (Yes) (no)".
Some people would look at this and think "A plex for my 6 month subscription rate of $11.95? Sure!" But for CCP the immediate effect is zero, that month had already been sold for $11.95. There is an indirect effect that some subscribers by PLEX for $, and now a few will not because they just got a cheaper one. But still its less of an impact to CCP's income than just creating PLEX and selling them for isk.
But I think CCP's view is to let the market run on its own unless it gets really really bad (like mass cancellations with the reason being "the PLEX is too high").

But they are not going to add plex to the market. That would be giving away game time and is a bad business practice. They cant to do this every time they misstep and cause an unpleasant price spike.
If plex price drop too low on the other hand they will happily buy/remove some off the market. That is basially selling isk directly to customers and stabilizing the market - as long as no one makes a fuss its win/win for CCP.
By advertising, they are encouraging $Cash purchases of GTC/PLEX which are then added to the in-game market. The net result will be that the price of PLEX in ISK terms goes down.
If the in-game value of PLEX goes too low, I doubt they would inject ISK into the market magically created out of thin air for the purposes of purchasing surplus in-game PLEX. I at least hope they wouldn't, what a mess. Likely what they could easily do is run a promotion that would allow redemption of in-game PLEX for sub time and/or Aurumification to result in additional Aurum over and above the normal conversation rates.

Seems CCP's scare tactics worked and it paniced players into selling more PLEX lol.
Why would you think that? It's not in CCP's best interest to lower prices of plex since they would make just as much money off of cash subscriptions.. They are just talking up the free market and sandbox value of the game.
