So, need some help picking a new graphics card!
I am currently run a GeForce 8400 GS, does a fantastic job.....on lowest settings. I had trouble RMA-ing a Gigabyte Radeon 4850, and never got to play eve much on it. Kept burning out. Now I'm fed up with returning it and simply want a new card.
I want to spend 150 or less, and I'm simply trying to get the best looking EvE experience I can for that price point, or is low in that price point as possible. Are there CHEAPER options than this that still play eve with good AA, 1920 x 1080, and good framerate?
Here's what I'm looking at: http://www.amazon.com/EVGA-GeForce-PCI-Express-Graphics-01G-P3-1556-KR/dp/B004R9OVE6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307996786&sr=8-1
Usually I order from newegg, but Amazon's listing is easier to link so w/e.
I'm more interested in what everyone has to say about playing EvE this card, or comparable cards for my budget ($150 or less)
Thanks for your advice!! I've tested Incarna on Sisi and its completely and utterly unplayable with a GeForce 8400 GS.

You'll be able to run EVE just fine with that.
I'm currently running a single 2 year old EVGA GTX 275 896MB. It runs EVE at 60FPS (vsynced) with max settings, and 4x AA at 3840x1080 (one client across 2 1920x1080 screens ) outside of Jita 4-4. Character creator performance is pretty good as well, but I haven't tested the FPS there.
The much newer 550 Ti should outperform mine, however, I could be wrong. -------------------

+1
On a GTX 280 here and plays eve flawlessly @ 1920x1200 on maxed out settings.

I was afraid of that. Thank you for trying and letting people know.

You should be able to play EVE just fine. It runs just fine on my laptop, which has a GTX 460M. ***** ***** ***** *****

The bad news is that "Incarna" (still only) gets about 1/3 of "regular EVE" FPS. At least we now have the option to not load CQ.
Even a Radeon HD 5570 (listed at 110$, with a 20$ mail-in rebate and 5$ shipping, so overall 95$) should be more than sufficient for "regular EVE", and be somewhat adequate for CQ/Incarna.

In terms of power usage (therefore heat) and noise levels, absolutely, it crushes the old 275 (uses only ~115W vs the ~220W of the 275). However, in terms of performance... not so much. In fact, the 275 might be just a smidge faster. _

I just got a ASUS GTX550 Ti by Nvidia and for some reason even after I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers it slows to unusable lvls even when just logging in. Not sure what I am doing wrong. It's on windows xp. You can't live in Fear. - Johnny Blaze |

I'm using that card (550 Ti 1GB) right now, on XP, 2 clients. 1 screen 1920 X 1080, the other 1366 X 768, all settings on high, no issues (IN SPACE). I can run ONE client in the CQ (on high settings) permanently, but have to switch the smaller res client to mid range settings to avoid too much heat (and FPS drop).
I bought it just prior to Incarna, and have been happy with it. Hope this helps.
Nuke it from orbit..........just to be sure. |

It would run, infact it would run very well, however I think you could save some money and buy a GTX 460 and do a little bit better. The 460 tests about the same and is in the 120$ price range. The 460 was also wildly popular last year so I expect compatibility would be greater from the driver point of view.
Also, 460 SLI really well. The 550Ti also SLI but they are not really as good in a dollar per performance metric as seen over at [H]ardOCP -------------
