I am playing using radeon 9600 and installed the newest approved drivers from ATI today. Now the game constantly locks up and hangs.
Anyone has similar problems, know of work arounds?
Thanks

If it didn't do it before, its not heat . Just try reinstalling the old drivers--I haven't had any problems. -- The best description of alliances, ever:

The new drivers work great on my 9800 pro, so sorry no help from here. I have installed extra fans in my computer which helps a lot with Stability as It's slightly overclocked by 5%.

my 9800 pro has had problems crashing with eve since day 1.
it has a huge properly applied fanless heatsink by thermaltake, with added fans, even underclocked it...
the latest drivers released last week or so wont even let me run eve. eve constantly locks or crashes my video.
eve ONLY does these things.
i love eve -- but how much can i take-- playing for an hour max before gettign hosed.
no clue what to do

Try lowering the AGP acceleration from x8 to x2 or 0. With my 9600 I was getting continual Eve lockups had to reboot and awful lot. After the acceleration was dropped I've had far fewer problems.

I installed lastest ATI drivers, and I'm using a 9800XT, and run two accounts at the same time with not problems.
My 9800XT is BUILT by ATI not POWERED by.
If you guys are running POWERED by cards (not built by ATI), you should be using the Manufacturer drivers NOT the drivers from ATI.com.
Like if the card is built by Sapphire, or ABIT, you should check the manufacturer website for updated drivers. My buddy had this problem with other games.

ATI's had a history of problems with their cards/drivers. The main problem that never went away until I got the Nvidia card was the sound/video stuttering issue. In ATI's tech forums I saw numerous other players had these and other problems with eve and other games.
I got tired of new bugs arising after previous ones were or weren't fixed and finally got an Nvidia card. All the problems I had before dissapeared and I haven't had any problems with the card since.
For anyone having problems with ATI's cards, I highly recommend replacing them with a non-ATI card. It would save alot of grief and headaches, not to mention time troubleshooting or being unable to play at all.

You have the Pro? Installed the previous drivers? Installed the latest DirectX?

I have an ATI Radeon 9800 pro and I have experienced the same problems with restarting my PC, it only happened after setting the resolution to 1280 x 1024 and full screen mode in game. When I rebooted my machine the follwing day it took five or six attempts before it booted, a message stated overclocking unsuccessful! Thankfully the game runs ok during play it's just frustrating when I attempt to retart the damn thing! Any body have any answers other than ditching the ATI for Nvidia? Thanks in advance.
