Edited by: Ris Dnalor on 19/06/2011 00:59:43 If the masses came to EVE... truly came to EVE, Tranquility could never handle it, not even a little bit. So this cannot be what they're after.
so the question is why head this direction? with more and more pve, more fluffy bunnies and standing in stations...
From a group of developers that was, for many years, continually amazed that players wanted to Roleplay their race and free enslaved minmatar ( or enslave more of them, as the case may be ). They all but completely ignored it. For years. So it's definately not about roleplay. Can't be.
I'll tell you what I think it is. It's shiny beads and trinkets for the natives. Once the mechanisms are in place, it's going to be very easy to regurgitate last months leather jacket with a shiny new ostrich skin texture. Little work. Low maintenance. No balancing required. No new features that cause bugs with old ones when they interact. Plus they can charge extra cash for the stuff, and people will pay.
Problem is I don't want beads and trinkets. I want pvp-related content. In every release. You have modular development teams. Assign more to this. This is what makes eve different. Not how fancy you can make my captains' chair. Not how easy you can make everything. We liked the challenge. It wasn't broken.

They'd just triple the amount of systems and remove jumping so massive fleet battles would become a rare event.

And I'm not saying they should stop PVE content.
But they DID stop PVP content

There's this magic place nowadays, where you go and ask for more/better hardware, you give them money, and all of a sudden, you get what you wanted ! If "the masses truly come to EVE", you can bet sufficient machines will be around to handle them sooner rather than later.
But... I'm not commenting anything about the rest of the OP's post. _

I stopped reading after this. This just shows how little thought you put into your post.
CCP is a business. They want to make money. A lot of money. Their dream is probably free money hats for all the employees. They would all share a joygasm if EVE ever had the subscription numbers of WoW.
Of course that's why they're putting out Incarna. Not to milk the playerbase for monacles (although that's a part of it), but to improve the immersion experience of EVE and entice the potential players who stayed away from the game because of it's lack.
And because a few years ago it was one of the most requested features from the playerbase.
Also because they're developing the engine for the WOD MMO anyway so they might as well use it on EVE.

Aside from the microtransaction stuff, which i dont really want to see in a p2p game.
How exactly is adding new content to the game "dumbing it down". And what exactly is so hard about eve that it would require above average intelligence? Eve isnt complicated, its filled with useless clutter that makes it seem like it is.
Your post makes you sound like an elitist prick btw. Scared of newcomers much?

That's a heck of an assumption to make.
Quote: Once the mechanisms are in place, it's going to be very easy to regurgitate last months leather jacket with a shiny new ostrich skin texture. Little work. Low maintenance. Did you know the sky is blue? And clouds are made of water? And when there's enough water in those clouds, the water falls from the sky! We call that rain.
When it rains, some people will be unhappy because they can't have a picnic. Some farmers will be happy because they need the rain for their crops. Some farmers will be sad because their crops matured and the rain is going to cause problems during harvesting.
When the crops are good because of good rainfall, the people who like having picnics can enjoy having picnics. When the crops fail, the people who like having picnics can't have picnics.
Having picnics has no influence on the rainfall or the crops.
Quote: I want pvp-related content. In every release. You have modular development teams. Assign more to this.
Did you know that PvP content is player-created? You can create PvP content yourself by simply heading out to lowsec or nullsec in your shiny PvP ship with your friends who are also flying PvP ships. You then meet other player and engage in combat.
CCP can't generate PvP content. They can produce drivers or incentives that behave like the stick and the carrot in the perennial parable of the donkey. It's you, the donkey, that has to actually take action.
Now do you care to elucidate upon your claims of "things" being made "too easy"?

He's probably complaining that now the game is too easy and accessible to the "masses" (proles)(good word, Oregin) and now he can't feel like a special unique snowflake while playing EVE.
Unfortunately for him, CCP is a business, and they have to cater to more than just him to make money.

Edited by: Mars Theran on 19/06/2011 02:41:13 Yeah, easy is a bit of a foreign concept to most people who play EVE. As for the masses, the new server cluster is going to tank the hell out of the old one. You won't even know what hit you when it arrives.
edit: maybe because you won't even notice, except when you are doing something that TQ would have had massive issues with on the current server. I'll admit, I probably would have spent an extra $50K on the new Cluster, but that's just me.

Who declared EVE gank free? Because the only way the game would get easier is if people stopped shooting each other in the face. EVE's strong point is challenge here isn't dependent on CCP to work but on the community, even if it's just drop-to-win sometimes. CCP only adds pointless stuff from time to time to troll us but other than that it's all about player interaction. And balance is just an illusion, if it wasn't everyone would be using the same ship with the same skills, mods and rigs like they do with armor and weapons in other games where everyone is wearing the same damn thing.
That doesn't mean Incarna is so far an obviously pointless Nvidia-Aurum advertisement with no evident additions to gameplay value, of course. |

Pushing Eve towards subscription targets will ensure the game is killed long before it gets anywhere near a fraction of WoW subscriptions.

What am I missing?
you're missing nothing. Customers generally patronize businesses that do what they want. When those things change, most of said customers ( I heard a figure once of 90% ) say nothing and go elsewhere, the other 10% tend to be more vocal and say something. The businesses call this feedback, and many companies value it for what it is... information. Then the businesses decide whether to listen to the feedback, and the vocal 10% then make a choice based on the businesses decision.
that's how things work.
welcome to the party.

If the masses came to Eve....
and they died in a fire on the second day, wandered into low-sec and lost their worldly goods, smacktalked and got war-decced right off, got scammed or can-flipped and started a fight with only one outcome....
so far no problem. As long as Eve is a place with no TRUE safe spot, then let them come, I say. As long as that holds, Eve will still be Eve

What ****es me off more than anything is when CCP lowers the skill level requirements for skills AFTER I've spent the time mastering the skill at the higher level!!!!
CCP should compensate player who spent the time training ot the higher level with some extra skill points to spend on character development just like they did for the learning skills.

Why? Even though they might not be the minimum requirement anymore, you still gain the benifits of those skills you trained.
The learning skills were refunded because they were made completely useless. All they did was raise your stats. When CCP decided to give everyone the benifit of lvl 5 learning skills, it really did make those skills completely redundant.
It's two completely diffenent sets of circumstances.
