I've been reading these forums for a few months and my overall impression is that most of the time they are the most depresing experience a EVE player could have. I would definitively NOT recommend this forums to a wannabe capsuleer.
The average thread is about how bad is feature X (and they make an endless row of features) and the next most usual kinds of threads are about how EVE and CCP ultimately suck. Then come the "make everyone play my way" threads and the such, and it all ends up with 90% of whining, *****ing, trolling and complaining and a little 10% of stuff worth to be read as most.
And yet, CCP's employees take their time and talk to the community. They do so even in their spare time, as I've seen them posting even on sundays. And most of the time they're hit by heavy flack and no acknowledgement is made of the time they put into this forum, in addition to their jobs at CCP.
So, I open this thread to thank CCP employees for attending the community even in this poor circunstances and to do so going beyond their contract duties:
Thank you CCP employees for your time and efforts in these forums and the consideration you have towards the community.
PS: I hope someone will join me before this thread is taken over by trolls...

I feel like CCP has a good PR team. Though I don't see why people complain most of the time. Game about flying internet space ships. /me is flying an internet space ship.

to late.. and you forgot to include the whiners there
As for the "thank you.." CCP comitted to excellence and so far doesn't embrace it. Thus we whine about it until CCP reacts. CCP wants us to call them out on bullsh*t, so we do. What is so hard to understand about this concept?
And if you think the last weeks had been bad.. hehehe.. then you're just not long enough on this party, my sweetheart.

Clearly the Op hasn't taken the time to read what the community is upset about. It's the freaking licensing fees that are going to break third party programs and the increased micro transactions! people are upset about CCP having greedy money grubbing hands! THe game is still good, kind of

Guys, you have all the whole forum to whine and you've been doing so for months since I read these forums.
This thread is to thank the people who uses their spare time to keep working for their company and attend the brown noise of complaints, period.

Well try after a few years, you might still be on the 'honeymoon' phase, trust me, it'll end :(
When I join WH was just about to launch, folk were happy, new shiny t3 jazz and sleepers, new stuff :) Now i feel that the only thing thats been done since that patch, is a few skills have been removed and we got a new salvager, oooo and a new scorp skin. IN 2 YEARS!
The 2 years before that, ships, gameplay, hell regions were added.
All we ask is they put some more time back into eve rather than on the stuff thats losing them money at the moment imo.
Hopefully for next time they can make a 'expantion' thats not content-free :)

Edited by: Le Skunk on 19/06/2011 12:46:46 * LOW LEVEL EMPLOYEE
The majority of CCP employees are just fulfilling their particular role to the best of their abilities. Aside from a slightly annoying cheesy tired in joke mentality "ve drink alcohol ja?" there is nothing to criticise. Some, in my opinion, deserve praise, like the lower level GMs.
They have a cool job, they are in a cool foreign country, they get to play ping pong at lunch, and hilmarg takes them to the Caribbean once a year. Meanwhile their friends work in some poxy office in walthamstow. They secretly agree with a lot of what is posted on the forums but wisely keep their mouth shut. They still play the game themselves.
* MID LEVEL EMPLOYEE
Then there is the second tier of employees, the middle management types who whilst are not inherently evil, are allowing evil to be committed on the universe of EVE. They glide around the offices, idiot savants in a bit of a daze, fixated on some 3d problem or worried whether the scorpion hull would collapse if it attempted to submerge under a class g planets ocean. They truely cannot comprehend what is written on the forums, and altruistically attempt to preach to the unbelievers why they are confused and wrong.
They are shocked to the core when EVERY TIME (well most the time ;p) what the forum posters are writing comes true and they have a brief period of self doubt. Luckily, they have the memory of a goldfish. Full of passion, but lacking foresight.
* HIGH LEVEL EMPLOYEE
Some commentators say the top levels of the company appear to pursue a policy of monetary acquisition over quality and vision and are a base corrupted version of themselves 8 years ago. They may say that but I couldn't possible comment.

The whole forums include this very thread, so?
Also, if you can't differentiate between whining about something vs. appropriate critique I can't help you.
Originally by: Ishtanchuk Fazmarai This thread is to thank the people who uses their spare time to keep working for their company and attend the brown noise of complaints, period.
Forum mods are paid people.. dunno, where you get that 'spare time' part from? Yes, occasionally some Dev browses the forums in his spare-time and might say hi, but that's about it.
As for the complaints, tell me where to post them?
Bugreporting doesn't want them. That's a firewall made from voluntary Bughunters that have strict orders to just let 'real' bugreports through.. no way to reach a Dev this way. Petitions only reach GM's. The Comments thread on Blogs reaches Devs for about 12-36hours after the blog did go up. After that this line of communication is dead. Testserver forums? Ha. You get lucky if a Dev replies in there once a week. And then it turns out he can't comment on other Devs work. So now, where do you post complaints?
I'd say the GD forums is mor or less the only place left to make that Bullsh*t public and knowledge to a wider audience until CCP can't ignore it any further.
Welcome to Eve 2011.
This is alone CCPs fault.
If they would act accordingly to their excellence policy this wouldn't happen. If they would employ expectation management all the time on all channels available this wouldn't happen. They run the biz, they're responsible. They have to get their act together.

Instead you stick around repeatedly poisoning the well.
To be honest, I give CCP lots of props for putting up with it.

I'd jump over to the next evolution of internet spaceships games if only there was something available for the Mac worth going to :)
Star Trek Online isn't it. Star Wars: The Old Republic looks promising, but it hasn't been released yet.
In the meantime there is EVE Online and all the dreams we have of what it could end up being: a frelling awesome science fiction simulator, from futuristic fashions for the RPers, folks blowing each other up with fusion guns planetside, people like us flying spaceships around and blowing each other up, every action having an impact on the world, every character living in the same universe.
I do agree with you about the amount of venom being spat forth effectively poisoning the well, that's why I try to spend my forum time as constructively as possible. Other people apparently don't give a damn, or just have far too much time on their hands :)
So thankyou to those CCP employees who are forced to trawl through the dross that is the forums, eking out a living in the toxic waste department of CCP!

Can't see that in my posts.. but everyone is free to his personal version of the world.
I'm not Anti-Eve, I'm not Anti-CCP - just pointing out some flaws. If you can't stand that little bit heat I'd suggest you don't read my posts, chicken. Also, why would I want to leave? Just because CCP doesn't excel? Sry, to many friends ingame I don't want to leave.
edit: PS: if you got quotes from me that paint the picture in the light you're implying up there I'm all ears. Go ahead.. I'm waiting.

I would also like to thank CCP. I do not agree with everyone, but I also don't think that everyone should agree with mine.
Sometimes a developer has to follow his vision. CCP put a large amount of ressources into Incarna, the character creator is still cutting edge and while Incarna offers not many features yet (I knew it would not) it puts the groundwork for future expansions that will certainly improve EVE.
We are only at the beginning of Incarna, but it already looks very promising. Keep up the good work and don't let yourself be destracted by a high forum whine index.

trying to go middle ground here, some people do still have high hopes for this game, but since some 2 years ago patches have been ever more disappointing and CCP has ever less in touch.
it feels that they have built a wall around them that only allows communication with the outside world thru a tiny gap called CSM.
it even feels more like that specially since all this incarna thing, where CCP came over and over and over saying that players could opt out of it if they wished, but now we could've have it shoved down our throats if they didn't put an option not to load it like it was done in hindsight.
it's kinda sad really that it feels that CCP is getting farther and farther away from the community. ---

CCP has one of the best relationships to its playerbase that I have seen in any game, at any point.
They adore the fact that we come on here and moan like *****es about every little thing we hate, as much as we come on here and revel in all the things we do like, I guarantee it.
It makes them better at their job, ultimately. You need not whine on their behalf, I sincerely doubt any of them take it personally

I have to agree these forums seem like a customer service hot line. The thing yall have to understand is most people wonĘt chime in when everything is going their way. They only chime in when there is something they do not like. It is not in the spirit of these forums I know, but that is my take on it. I believe the silent majority are actually happy because there is such a small percentage that actually post here. There is always room for improvement and more to learn. There are things I ask about myself but I try to do it constructively and not go off the deep end. Anyways, keep up the hard work CCP.

Have you conisderd that no one would whine if CCP gave us what we wanted in the first place.
1. fixed content 2. improved content (related to the core of the game, not new stuff built on broken stuff or just eye-candy)
I will give credit where credit is due however.
So who is really to blame for the griping on the forums?

Edited by: Lady Go Diveher on 19/06/2011 13:46:45 Another thing to point out, is the vocal minority concept.
Example:
People have been whining and moaning for YEARS AND YEARS that CCP have never delivered on their promise of 'ambulation' in stations.
Now it's coming and its called Incarna... and people are whining and moaning that this isn't what they wanted, its space barbies, they wanted <insert whine for nerf here> .. etc.
The fact of it is, if you hate something, you are more likely to come here and moan about it; you are not a representative sample. Everything said should be taken with a pinch of salt as there is usually a motivation to come and post here about it at all.

oh I was on the guys that were, and are, for ambulation since I do understand that it will open up a new venue for many things. I am one of the guys that can live together with "MT for vanity" as long as it is done right. it really doesn't cause any issue with me.
however, I am one of the guys that does also think that nearly half of the content release these last few years has either been abandoned in a semi-working state or forgotten.
I don't mind CCP moving forward, but I do mind CCP moving forward by building itself on half-assed content, something that has been a staple on CCP content development for far too long.
I don't mind extra time in development. I do mind CCP thinking that new content sells more than finishing what they started. ---
