During a discussion over the weekend on the sev3rance vent chat resulted in an idea how to fix/nerf AFK cloakers. Adding a heat damage on the activation of the cloak so that after a while the cloak would be deactivated on its own, this would result in less AFK cloakers who log in cloak and go to work and a more valid reason to sell/buy nanite paste.
Note I'm just the poster for this, I did not come up with the idea but I support it.

The whole idea of cloaks (covert cloaks rather) is removing safety of operations in the conquered system. You kinda contradict it.

AFK cloakers are by definition AFK; thus they cannot harm you.
No discussion is required and no changes need to be made to cloaks.

This goes on the false premise, that AFK cloakers and cloaks need fixing.
Not a new idea and just as fail as the rest.

Edited by: Sekket on 20/06/2011 14:02:45 Geez, I'm not a forum warrior or anything, but I love how I comment in a thread and my post gets completely ignored in the discussion, then it comes back in another thread as "someones" idea.

this "completely new" and "never brought before" idea is popping up on a regular basis every 3 days or something.

As Robert Caldera and I said, this is not a new idea. For example..... [Idea] Cloak overheats

As I said it was not my idea, it came up on a discussion on our vent server. It is not new, but at the time of the discussion most of us had not seen this idea yet.
Also it seems like the only ideas launched here that don't get smacked down seemed to be how can we make the base of the economy smaller instead of how do we support the human industrial and punish the bots.
as for afk cloakers it is a problem when we're taking about someone who logs in after dt and remains afk until the next dt(and then repeats), I'm thinking that making people interact with the game more would be better then automating it more.

this doesnt make any sense (except for anomaly blockers). More likely is they log in at DT and then coming back from times to times looking for targets, so your whole argument is for dogs dude. It seems for you that they are afk but they probably are not.

Agreed but punishing every cloak user is not the solution.

Only people bothered by afk cloaks are those running scripts thus I fully endorse afk cloaking.

Cov-Ops is an strategic advatage for corp and alliances. its for gathering intel on enemy movement and scouting areas first before a fleet warps in.
sometimes you need to track all enemy traffic. that can take up to hours thats not AFK to me.
i dont support this topic

A sort of time-limiter for cloaks should be implemented imho, but no hard-limit. Maybe use up isotopes or such. Make the cloak consume more depending on wether you move or not, and much more while warping, think Cloak mode in Crysis.
