Its a day of random ideas, fairly out there ones at that:
Remove POS's for moon mineing, replace with moon based PI. However allow 'moon base bashing' - since there's no atmosphere to protect the base a variation of the existing POS bash mechanic should work well enough. Allows for DUST interaction.
Equally some of the existing POS features could easily be moved onto the moons surface (R&D, processing and smaller ship/equipment production).
Would allow for a overhaul of the existing POS system as I'm told its one of the oldest and clunkiest bits of code in the game? Other than "yuk change" how would this impact existing gameplay and what could you build ontop of it? |

Having a variation of PI on moons is a great idea as it seems to be a very logical extension of PI. To add to the idea I think that in order to set it apart it should require LI (Lunar Interaction) centric skills that would be similar to the PI skills in function. ________________________________________________

I support this idea as well. It can be integrated with existing starbases easily ... put all planetary launch points within weapons range of the POS, and let the POS serve as the 'customs office'.

Ahem!
I have something like this integrated into my nullsec omni-proposal. Basically, moons and planets would be interchangeable in terms of mining, save perhaps that planets would have larger yields.

It is a good idea I believe. Perhaps the Moon surface base would rely on the POS for CPU and Power. Control Towers that offer bonuses to reactors would instead offer bonuses to surface structures. Instead of Moon Extractors and Reactors and Silos one would have the structures we see from PI.
Of course one could also do this and completely remove the POS. The question then is do we really want the price of moon goo to drop so far? I wouldn't really mind Tech 2 everything being that much cheaper, but remember without people having to spend so much on a POS to get and refine moon materials, Tech 2 would be far, far cheaper. Like 3x instead of 30x tech 1. So that question should be answered before you
Each moon you have ought to count towards your colony limit, but who really has that many POSes for moon mining? Though a different skill for upgrading your moon base. Also there would be a special moon base starbase structure, player built to man a moon colony.
Moon colonies wouldn't need an import/export tax, low gravity makes it easy to get to, however a permanent base on a tiny airless moon would be just as hard to maintain as a star base for the same reasons, which is why borrowing resources from an orbiting control tower makes sense.

Or the prices for the moon base PI structures could just be more expensive in order to keep the price of t2 stuff up. Good idea though for the most part. __________________________________________________
