Really? You serious? There is more to a car than equipment.
Did you miss a zero off the price?

Edited by: Ultim8Evil on 21/06/2011 19:36:18 You do realise that Chevrolet over here is just rebadged Daewoo?
Your Chevrolet Cruze is in fact a Daewoo Lacetti Premiere.
So don't get excited, and don't think you're going to be parking up next to Cameros and Corvettes at car shows.
And don't let that 136 bhp get you in trouble!

In vibrant red and with alloy wheels it looks really groovy. It makes me laugh that current new car designs look like a cyborg samurai

I've seen a lot of them in the US. But I always see chevy, ford, chrysler, etc over here.
I'm kinda excited to see what the response is to ford's new engine / transmission they plan on putting in their smaller vehicles.

The cruze BLOWS.
Steering is terrible, acceleration is terrible, and the interior is cheap as hell.
WHY OH WHY would you get a cruze in the UK when they have the straight four diesel Ford Focus Hatchback? (SEXY, efficient, oh and it's not built with lint and cardboard)
Just sayin'

I don't get why people in the UK/Europe buy almost any family hatchback over the Ford Focus, its priced well and has much better build quality than anything from Vauxhall or Peugeot and Citroen. The amount of interior space and the size of the boot is great for a hatchback to.
I have had two mk 2s in the last 8 years and every time I bought one I test drove all the others and they just don't feel as well built or as nice to drive.
The only other marque I think I would buy would be VW or maybe Skoda.

Edited by: Vogue on 22/06/2011 16:59:48 Edited by: Vogue on 22/06/2011 16:58:37 To a lot of people a new car purchase goes along the lines of lifestyle projection. Ford cars are seen as a bit staid for some people. The previous poster mentioned Skoda. I really like the Octavia as it is based on the same platform as the VW Passat, some SEAT saloon and the Audi A4.
The Ford Focus was Ford Europe first quality car that had better suspension and other refinements. I have driven several MK1 Ford Focus cars and though general refinement was very good I did not like that I felt I was sitting too high.
I really like the old Ford's. I would love a 1980's Ford Capri 2.8i. Though it has a fixed rear axle and leaf spring suspension so it would handle like a over laden apple cart going round bends

Learn to weld and get one. They still race them so it must be possible to get them to handle, maybe by converting to coils on the back and a sierra axle?

Edited by: Vogue on 22/06/2011 18:40:14 Sounds neat. I did some welding 19 years ago as part of an engineering craft apprenticeship. I was not that good. But in my older years I think I would have a more patient and steady hand. But I was awful with sheet metal work and I think now I would be no better.
When I was a young kid dad had a Mk3 Capri 3.0 Ghia. It was my favorite family car. But then I also really liked it when mum got a Citroen XM, I liked Citroen's Caldari 80's and 90's style . Citroen's were my parents favorite cars. We had 1 GS, 2 BX's, 1 XM and a Xantia. But now Citroen's don't have exceptional styling which is a shame. Well the C6 looks different but it is a retro CX.

yes, but then again, build quality.
tbh Ford is the only american car maker that I trust, somewhat.
not saying that we don't have godawfull brands here in europe (FIAT), but Ford is usually placed on the "value for money" car bracket.
Chevys? Well only "good" thing GM came up with these years here was the Opel/Vauxhall Insignia, and even then the only one I would ever put my hands in would be the awd version. ---

Edited by: Janus Talmash on 22/06/2011 19:56:34 US car manufacturers have this knack of making every interior look horrible, made from cheapo plastics that just don't fit properly. It's really a gift to always deliver on this and never fail by accidentally making a good interior once in a while. Korean cars are no better.

Korean cars do offer good value though, the prices are low and they do offer good warranties and free servicing. Buying a new car for the price of some used models and not have to worry about breakdowns or service costs for 5-7 years is tempting.
Other Manufacturers are adapting to this now but the Koreans where the ones who started it.
+1 for old Fords though.
The Capri is a sweet car if you can pick up a good one, I am always tempted to try and pick up a stock MK1 Escort RS.
Paying as much as a new car for an old car with all the old car inconveniences and discomforts is unjustifiable though.

just be careful with Saab, parts might get rare if things do not improve for them. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-13885267
lets just say id avoid buying a new Saab right now. to put numbers into perspective.. they only sold 30,000 cars last year.

Modern Saabs share most of their oily bits with Vauxhall/Opel so getting parts won't be tricky.
The way motorbility works IIRC is it has to be a new car, and you have to pick from a list because they can't afford to engineer solutions for every car on the market. If you pick the Focus, I suppose a drop top is out of the question?

You can choose from a lot of cars, you get a basic list of cars but then you have the premium list and have to pay extra. If you get optional extras for the basic cars that can cost from ú100-1000 or even more, you can even get Range Rovers or high end BMWs but you have to pay a substantial fee. Although that fee is far less than having buy one out of you're own funding.

SAAB is at the brink again. Stryker brought out SAAB with a big EU loan, but with a high interest rate. SAAB at the moment can't afford to pay its workers. The new Saab 95 looks groovy but all its other models are very out of date. SAAB is like MG Rover before it collapsed, it has little new IP in its product range with too much production capacity than market demand. SAAB is between a rock and a hard place as Volvo its market segment competitor has a good range of cars. I think the best thing SAAB could do is to buy the IP for a sports car and go from there.
The old Saab 900 was my favourite car. But now all cars have the Euro-Japanese cyborg cyborg samurai look.
