Comets and Meteorites.
The Eve Universe needs them. Why ?
Meteorites
Dynamics arising from possible Planetary impact if struck by any meteorite. There could be 3 or 5 classes of Meteorites. In other words, small, medium, large meteorites. Should perhaps be harvestable with specific ship types as the Meteors tend to travel fast. Collision with such should incur ship damages. Meteorites should not be limited to only having a chance at intersecting with Planets, but any other static constructs in space (POS's etc).
Comets
Basically the same as Meteorites, but their orbits are predictable. More Ice than mineral.
These would be a decent addition for making immersion that much more "real".
That's my 5c worth.

Gief eyecandy and dynamics in zero gravity, definetly endorsing this idea.
Besides, its not 2003 anymoar, both PC's, servers and connections can easily pull the extra load it'd cause, in addition it'll make our pretty Game even more beautiful.
Defiently a good idea.

I think it's a cool idea, but the problem with it is, it would take a crap load of implementation. Determining the travel of these things would be complicated, and making them random would negate the purpose of building ships to mine them... All in all I think it would be a much bigger headache than any programer or game designer would be willing to tackle..

Probably no more difficult to implement than Wormholes which have ever-changing exits etc.
It's meant to be a Universe.
Anyhow, it's just an idea. One I would like to see. Note emphasis on the word "like".

I love the idea.
Meteorite or cometary bodies could be located in scanning, where in warping to one would start a sequence where the pilot must successfully control speed and heading a la` Apollo command module manoeuvres to come up within a safe distance of the meteor / comet to begin mining operations. For example, coming in too hard would end up with serious damage to your ship, coming in too shallow would throw you back into space, and you'd have to warp up to the met/comet again.
With today's tech capability it's completely doable, and allowing them to appear anywhere in space (and be totally random) would make for some good hunting.

It's even easier than that, just make a gravimetric site called "comet", put a huge ice roid in it, maybe with a new model so it has a tail and some rocky bits. Job done

Amen to that, Jean Lechapel
It's a Universe, afterall. Should not be restricted to just Wormholes, Planets and Asteroid fields. It should not just be about PvP and PvE, that's a very narrow train of thought for a sandbox such as Eve.
Totally spot-on with your comments on the approaches and damages and scanning down. Very doable programmatically and easily supported with the Eve monster servers.

Nope it should also move, so that only relative 'fast' ships can mine it.

Ya maybe 1k/s and introduce a new mining ship that has an extra high for probes?

They don't move, they fall. All falling objects in eve- planets, moons, customs offices, stargates, space stations, asteroids, are treated as stationary because once warped in you decelerate to their speed and fall with them (for whatever fluff-based reason).

Land on (not easy) and install some thrusters on a meteorite or comet with the intention of diverting it's path, either for the purpose of saving a Moon or Planet from impact, or the opposite, purposefully attempting to alter the course so as to impact a stationary object.
I still think it would positively impact the game dynamics. Could even be additional skillset required to access these bodies.
