Thank you for all your hard work on Incara. I have to say I am not a fan of MT in general, but as long as it is only vanity items, it does not bother me. I could not care less about the prices. I view it as a great isk sink and there is a lot of old isk in the game. Who knows, I might buy something on sale one day. I know this is the first step and there is much more to come. I was actually surprised a low end laptop could run it. Keep your chin up. There are many that appreciate what you have done that are not as vocal by nature compared to the squeaky wheel people. I know yall have thick skin which is good with all the short sighted people we also have in this community. I look forward to the next blogs, CSM notes, and releases.

Originally by: Sunbird Huy I managed to post on the first page last nite...and I followed the thread until page 7, then I decided I need to go sleep and cool off from this ultra-disappointment we have been served.
Now... When I look back, the Incarna was awaited for such a long long time. The patch notes said it would be great...here are the "cooled-off" impressions from me...
1. EVEry pvp-er is now absolutely dissapointed, or most of us are, anyway. The turrets look amazing when fired with full effects. The problem is, the turret models look puny and not really impressive. Second issue with turret modules is that now all of them look alike, ALOT. Shape of barrels on blasters and rails remind of the new Arty/AC barrels. I mean SAD.
2. I have mentioned earlier, the guns have completely bad description/model/icon alignment. First of all, a simple example is the 800mm rep. arty II...it says "4-barreled ..." while the graphic clearly displays it as 2-barrel turret. Same goes for the monster 1400mm...it's supposed to fire a single MONSTER SHELL, every 15-20seconds...IT HAS 2 BARRELS, WHAT THE HELL?
3. Incarna/WiS...We all understand it's a first step towards interaction development, and a step towards Dust514 intertwining with EVE. That's all cool. But how much actual feedback did you read from your testers on SiSi??? From what I can read here, most of people have been sincerely aggravated by your blatant decision to ignore and actually LIE about optional INCARNA...This is really bad. Instead of increasing the customer base, which eventually might happen, you have flushed lot of alt accounts down the drain = LESS INCOME for now...Good luck anyway. But the level of development of our current WiS is just sad. Players feel crippled by entering station, as it takes ages to deal with changing the ship, undocking...moving...one of my first reactions was "where the hell is the option to run???".
4. Turret icons, both in inventory and the ones displayed on the aggressed target are just PLAIN BAD. Whoever did them, didn't spend much time playing eve. There is no balance between the large, small/medium turrets, the colors are all almost same, and there is no way to know which one is which without reading it for 100 times...Any half-decent pvp-er could simply pull the icon, without reading the name, and fit it on the ship, without having a single doubt what he fitted. NOT ANYMORE.
5. Speaking of Dust514, I am not sure if I will buy a PS3 for it, but I must admit, the whole interaction thing, really put that idea in my head. At the moment, I am at the NO choice, just because of the way you have handled this expansion. I feel that insincerity and lack of care was the general description of your recent development work and it's application to TQ.
I think it's quite right to say the following flak you, the CCP have received in this thread is well deserved, and shows how much real CONS vs. PRO's you have given/introduced. I also have to say that turret effects look amazing but the turrets themselves are under-par...And the lighting in stations is just horrible. I wish you all the best luck in trying to do some damage control, since you definitely will need to.
All in all, I will have to spend a few days playing other games, while I manage to properly cool off from this disappointment. After 5 years playing, I am now, for the first time, really tempted to stop playing EVE if this kind of behavior continues. People are beginning to play this game INSPITE of CCP, rather than THANKS to CCP...
This, and the fact that if CCP do dust like CCP do incarna, eve really is ****ED.

Edited by: Logan Empuls on 22/06/2011 13:06:18 I agree with most others. The new turret icons are very hard to distinguish from one another. This was really apparent on my Noctis as I was trying to salvage a mission and had lots of trouble distinguishing between my tractor beams and salvagers. Please fix or revert to the older icons!

CCP I thought you should get a real response besides the trolls. I for one, love incarna i have no issues what so ever in the stations a few small things out in space but not worried about it.
but the average consensus within my alliance is that they would love to use incarna, but most people are using multiple boxes and the performance is severely lacking on even modern PCs.
basically people need some help to make incarna more multi-box friendly. please? thank you.

Who designed the new icons for the strip miners, tractors, etc. . .? They all look like undifferentiated blobs to me.
Oh, and yea I agree that with all those that say the lag in CQ sucks donkey balls. Also is there someway to temporaily close all windows so you can actually see cq? On my smaller screen -- where I keep my alt acct -- I cant see anything because of the windows -- local, corp chat, overview/journal etc. In space its annoying but not that big a deal, but in cq its a pain that the eye candy is obscured -- yes i know I can minimize the windows -- but having to minimize all the windows manually is annoying, as is mising something said in local or corp channels.

you're a bloody carebear and you probably dont understand the need to actually undock, fit your ship or play with any sort of haste. its not like the asteroids are gonna run away is it. Any less lag we can have is better when fighting in large fleet fights.

Here's my theory, your view of Incarna 1.0 correlates exactly to what you view Eve as.
If you view Eve as an internet spaceship game, you hate it. It detracts from work that could be done on internet spaceships and internet spaceships are all that Eve is good for.
If you view Eve as a Sci Fi simulator, you think it's a good first step that needs iteration. You understand that there is more than spaceships to Eve's world.
My own view is that people are viewing this as an indictment on their play style and not CCP doing what CCP's vision of the game is. It's their baby, they just let us play with it.

well here comes the funny pat of the patch my laptos is 1 year old and with eerything low detals it still overheats, never had problems before with 5 clients runing, now i use 1 and after 20min the laptop dies cos of overheating, yes have extra cooling for it and everything and its not a cheap shot one. i hope you can fix this and im not the only guy who has problems with it.

Just to be the logical one for a second-
So in a world where games are becoming more and more open and realistic, all the over-dramatic people here seem to think CCP won't advance with the times? This is only 1.0 of Incarna too, mind you. There are a lot of bugs to iron out, a lot more work to be done, but this is a starting point. And for those of you complaining about your low-end systems, CCP has said a few times in the past that you will need to upgrade, it was your own fault for not listening then.
So either CCP advances with the times and becomes a truly open sandbox scifi environment, or it stays the way it was and when the X series from Egosoft goes Multiplayer EVE would die. And if you lot haven't upgraded since the 90s, thats your own fault.
Your choice guys. Either CCP goes broke because you guys won't let it move forward with the rest of the gaming world, or you give them a chance...they've done pretty damn well so far. ---------------------------------
You think your lag is bad? It took Jesus 3 days to respawn! |

Thanks CCP - very nice indeed.
The new Turrets and their effects are brilliant. Combine that with Maller and i just wanna go blow stuff up, a little disturbing for and industrial pilot.
New Agent Finder is very helpful, thats gonna save me a lot of time.
I'm not interested in skirts or handbags but lots of people seem to be moaning there too expensive, no brainer realy isnt it?

Well done CCP, you have finally exposed your true selves.
All respect I've ever had for you has been lost in the past months, Incarna was the last straw.
The damage has already been done, we've all seen just how greedy you've become and how little you actually care about the community, nothing is going to change that now.

Simple solution to make everyone happy (if this has been already said, my apologies, its a long topic):
Add an option to the Esc menu so you can choose to start in either the old layout or in CQ. Then add a button in the old layout to "disembark to CQ" and a button in CQ to "reembark to ship"
I look forward to exploring CQ and stations, but most of the time just want to dock, change some stuff around, drap and drop a new ship to active (why is this gone?) and leave

Right now, CQ brings pretty much nothing positive.
- It doesn't fit the EVE universe that a capsuleer would go to all that trouble of getting out of the pod every single time one docks. It's badly woven into the game's backstory and context. - It's faster to use the neocom and station service buttons to do all the things CQ allows you to do. - CQ actually hurts the performance of the various neocom/service windows. - Lowered usability. Not just performance/responsiveness, but also removal of station info panel. - No multiplayer features at all in what's supposed to be the biggest new thing in a major expansion.
There's no actual benefit to using CQ at the moment. I can't really see the point of it without multiplayer interaction. It's really feels like a move to use EVE players as (paying) beta testers for WoD technology, especially since the old station environment was axed and CQ bolted on, minmatar fashion, with little regard for the game's backstory.
There's good stuff in the expansion, but I feel that overall the game was better before Incarna.

Ok CCP, in reality the only issues are lag and Aurum. DO NOT stop on walking in stations.
People who are angry about walking in stations are angry because the way THEY want to play the game might be spoiled. Frankly they should remember that CQ is only the first phase and there will be another dimension added through WiS.
I would say that you should reconsider bringing back the old hangar view and givng an "exit pod button"

This! Either CCP has no QA at all oder they had to rush the rollout because somebody important swung the hammer and ordered to do so. As a PM working on (much much smaller) mobile software projects, I am really (REALLY) surprised to see such a poor quality release for a subscription dependent MMOG.

Got home ran the update everything worked like a charm as always. I can see that you guys at CCP have really poured your heart and soul into this update.
Props and credit where credit is due, I love it. Had minor lag with 3 accounts running while docked however I have noticed an improvement in space with overall performance.
I've been waiting 4 years for this I felt more immersed in EVE than I ever have and it was great to see my ships in station, great idea and thanks for all your efforts CCP. Any minor issues I can see I know are just teething problems, to write the IO from the ground up in many cases and produce something like this is awsome.
Don't let the negative comments of some spoil your moral they would never be happy no matter what you do.
I'm really happy with what you've produced in Incarna and look forward to later in the year for the upgrades. Say... Nice Bike. |

No it's not, this game is 8 years old now. It's not a starting point at all. Sure, new features might need some tweaking and bugfixing, but with every update, more stuff gets broken in the process. With Incarna 1.0 I feel like playing a game worthy of open-beta status again.

I personally love Incarna. I think its a hugely important step in what is becoming a truly unprecedented MMO experience.
I agree, however, that for speed and to make more sense that when you dock you be presented with the old station screen and that Captains Quarters be a Station Panel button that you click to enter CQ.
I mean, why would you get out of your pod, get dressed and go to a motel room when your pod can just be transferred to the other ship or you're just docking to get your cap recharged?

I like it, but I think there are some needed changes - IMO the option to start in the old ship-view when docking is a must. And then a nice little button to go to CQ. It's really nice to explore, but it does take more time to load (understandably) and sometimes pilots need to do stuff which involves docking, leaving some cargo and undocking, often repeated each 5 minutes. Although I can understand that it's not really bad that there is no such stuff at first, since many players wouldn't even take a look at CQ then. Another major visual problem is the ship scale.. I mean, my frigate looks even bigger than my mining barge.. As said in the first reply to this post, this looks just wrong, because, unless you have 3D glasses and are using them to play EVE, you cannot perceive the distance.
And another thing - having to walk everywhere pretty much sucks. It's OK for now, but I imagine the station environment will become larger in the future.
Other than that, apart from some minor bugs, it's nice, I like it.

NEWSFLASH
EVE IS NOT ONE-DIMENSIONAL! It is not a WoW clone where the options are "be the best at everything or go bust" Frankly another gameplay dimension is overdue and adds to the world of Eve as a SCI-FI SIMULATOR, not as some run of the mill MMO.

Edited by: Shandir on 22/06/2011 13:39:41 To those who think we are being unreasonably negative about Incarna. I have been looking forward to Incarna, the old demo videos looked cool. The new demo video looks cool. I want to play Slay. I want to drink booster shots and do shady deals in dark corners. I want to finally see other pilots out of their ships.
None of these features are in this expansion - the features we've gotten are a very shiny new, but less user-friendly station interface and the removal of the less-pretty but more usable one; a microtransaction store that an overwhelming majority of the playerbase rejected completely, and even those who were in support will not be in support of what we now have, a pathetic selection of items, at insane prices, that NOONE ELSE CAN SEE; And shiny new turrets.
The expansion breaks immersion in several places - *What on earth (Jita?) happened in all of the stations that's going to keep all capsuleers out of all stations for over 6 months? *Why am I getting out of my pod - I don't want to get out of my pod, I'm just getting ammo, damnit. *Matari supremacy aside, I assume we're just supposed to shrug and ignore the fact that every station is now outfitted with Matari quarters.
Lastly, I'm seriously concerned about the rate of progress that makes me feel it is very unlikely that Real Incarna (when we can actually leave our rooms) will be released remotely on time, or with any useful or even interesting features - and I'm concerned about the lack of dev response to overwhelming player feedback and questions about the arbitrary decision to force us to leave our pods at every station.
So I will ask again, as we've been asking since we found out about this fact: Why are you not allowing us to stay in our pods at the station, why is the old interface being competely removed? (To prevent confusion I am not asking about performance, I am not complaining about multi-boxing, and I am not asking about the 'don't load stations' tickbox - I only want to know what reasoning made it impossible to leave the existing feature and add a 'decant' button. Do not evade the question as I have seen you do at least three times.)
Edit: To allay some of the negativity in this post, I will compliment you on the fact that it is very pretty, some of the new windows are very useful, and I am glad you added these features - if I can start to believe you are actually on track to add a WiS that's worth leaving my pod for, I can start to look forward to it again.) -

Ok, after having played around with CQ for a bit, my impression have changed somewhat. It looks pretty darn cool.
Good stuffs:
- The level of detail is simply staggering. Big hugz to the maid that put an ashtray on my bedstand, she got the priorities right.
- The main TV screen is very cool.
- The agent finder is a huge functionality upgrade, just add a tickbox to filter for locator agents.
- Character animations are subtle, but very detailed and smooth.
- Ships look ok, but I'd prefer if they were more to scale. Maybe a zoom option or some binoculars would help to spot tiny frigs in the hangar.
- Runs very smooth on my system, even with 2 clients and all settings on max. Loading time is bearable.
Not so good stuffs:
- The lighting is really bad. There are a few perfect spots where my characters look real, but otherwise their faces are very dark, or they look overly pixelised. Maybe the light needs to be softer.
- Walking is annoying, its just a tad too slow to be practical.
- The whole macrotransaction store thing, I'll let the threadnaught speak for itself.
- And of course the fact that Incarna is almost pointless until our avatars can meet others and interact.
