Running Fedora 15, wine 1.3.21, on a Core i7 with a ATI Mobility Radeon 4670. Catalyst driver version 11.4 for Linux.
Install to Incarna worked flawlessly. I get 'Shader Model 3 (SM3) support is needed to run this game'. Output from console is:
'fixme:d3d:resource_check_usage Unhandled usage flags 0x8.'
Sounds like other Linux users, mostly Nvidia card owners, are having glitches at the worst but can at least play. Does anyone have any ideas that might help me along? I have added appropriate Direct3D registry entries by hand already, and they have no effect. I have installed DirectX 9.0c, and verified the .dlls are located in drive_c/windows/system32. What next? |

Hello!
My laptop has a Intel GM965 GPU (Kubuntu 11.04 - 2.6.38-8-generic). I also get this messages. Everything was compiled with latest version. (Wine-1.3.22, mesa, drm ...) Before Incarna, it was good.
If somebody will find any solution, please tell me! :)

Johnny, did EVE work on that GPU before the Incarna patch? I have never gotten EVE to work on onboard Intel graphics chips. You might be out of luck without a full graphics card such as an Nvidia or ATI. |

Hello!
It worked before incarna patch.
I could use with this solution: http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27350 (the last attachement)
This laptop is not my own. It is my company's laptop. I got for work ;)

Johnny, can you confirm that the game works after the patch on i965GM? After installing the patch, the game stopped working for me. Ubuntu 11.04 on i965GM.
Thank you!

I made a patch : http://www.pastie.org/2108100 to bypass the Shader Model detection.
You apply my patch to the latest Wine and you add in your registry : shadermodeloverride = 3 .
Do it fix it? NO! Yellow screen of death with the eve background and lot of white/grey moving triangles. Now EVE really NEED real SM3.0 support... :(

I too am having this problem I'm using a Dell XPS/ Windows XP pro I had a ATI 9600 Pro. I changed that to a newer NVidia FX5600 and updated all my drivers and updated to directx 11, I still get these errors. Everything worked before the patch.

Edited by: Pistal Trader on 23/06/2011 14:58:16 Still no progress with this issue. I have tried running eve.exe through 3DAnalyzer, which was mentioned in another thread. Disabling shader model detection kills eve.exe right after the splash screen.
Looking for more options to experiment with.
CCP has kinda burned me hard on this... my Mac and my Linux laptops both have cards that support Shader Model 3, but my Mac's drivers do not implement it, and my Dell XPS 1645 laptop (the linux machine) doesn't seem to be able to convince eve.exe that it is actually capable of Shader Model 3. Something about Catalyst 11.4 driver for X.
Ironically my crappy Pentium 4 running Windows XP and an old AGP Geforce card is the only machine I have that will run EVE now, and only at about 10 FPS. My most up-to-date hardware is still not working.
EDIT: I'm the OP.

OP : Do you have glsl = disabled in your regedit HKey/soft/Wine/Direct3D ?
If so, remove it or put it anything not "disabled" because disabling glsl sith Wine to SM2.0 instead of 3.0.

This is not a bug with your linux version m8t, EVE no longer supports shader modal 2, shader modal 3 is now the min spec. Theres over 9,000 users who can no longer play without a new Video card for there desktop or completely NEW Laptops. Oh but on a side note CCP has stated that they are in the works on selling DISCOUNTED Video cards. MORE $$ for CCP i guess.
This is 1 way to deal with lag, start removing its userbase.

Ravow: Yes, UseGLSL=enabled is a wine registry entry, although I believe enabled is the default. Other entries are Multisampling=enabled, VideoMemorySize=256
Epyx Nykee: I have two cards in laptops (unupgradable) that support shader model 3, but EVE doesn't run. My Mac, obviously I've gotta wait for Apple to see if they release a driver that allows software to use SM3. But with my Linux laptop, I know both the driver and hardware use SM3, and that wine will support it. EVE is just not able to detect the SM3 capability the ATI Catalyst driver supports. The thread was posted in hopes of other suggestions... I have exhausted my Google-fu.
I re-partitioned the Linux system to add a Windows install, but I felt dirty doing it I will post any progress I have with the SM3 popup in Linux, and hopefully others will do the same.

I'm currently running EVE on my Radeon 4870HD and Catalyst 11.6 patched for 3.0.0 kernel support.
It's working good with SM3 but it's slower.... than prepatch with Gallium3D r600g drivers :(

Edited by: Terrant Felder on 24/06/2011 03:29:53 Hi Coocha,
I had a similar problem, but the solution was I simply clicked on "Allow Pixel Shader" in wineconfig and it immediately accepted that my card supports SM3.
It seems like an extremely simple solution, and it might not work for you, but just thought I'd put it out there to see if you tried it or not.
Hope you get it working soon!

I had the exact same problem until I set "UseGLSL = enabled" in the wine registry. wineconfig has use pixel shaders / hardware enabled, as well. Now it works.

I wouldn't recommend wine to anyone. I heard other people complaining about wine. (The component that allows programs made for windows to run on linux) Honestly I can't stand it. Everyone complained how bad it was and for once I didn't listen. I totally regret it. In fact it wasn't something I was willing to deal with on a daily basis. It is gone and god am I glad. If your using it good luck. It wasn't for eve but instead for my wireless. As for a gaming computer, I rebuilt a windows 2000 millennium addition and use a "modified" version of windows XP.lol If your curious I run slackware 12.0. on my other.(obviously not for gaming lol) Build another computer. Keep linux on your computer and run 7 on the other. That way you don't have to deal with wine. Yea its that bad.

Dueo, I daresay you don't actually know how to use the system correctly if you're claiming the performance is that bad. It's pretty impressive how well it actually works, considering the number of people who reported that Starcraft 2 worked "out of the box" with wine when the game was first released. Same thing goes for many other games, as well. It's fine if you don't like it, but not fine for you to bring your Microsoft fanboy FUD into this section of the boards. Expect to be ridiculed.

Maybe this bug fixed in the new wine version (1.3.23) But there is a bug in the intel driver. :(

Hello,
I am also running fedora 15 64bit, and recieving the shader model 3 error. I have tried editing the registry as suggested, and everything else under the sun. Has anybody been able to get incarna running on a linux box through wine? If so, could you please share with me the resources used to get it running? Thanks!

I can confirm that Eve Online works with Wine, new Mesa v7.11 on my Ubuntu 11.04 32-bit Natty with an Intel Mobile GM965 graphic chip.
This is what I did: 1. Use latest Wine PPA and install wine1.3 # sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa # sudo aptitude update
# sudo aptitude install wine or # sudo aptitude full-upgrade
2. Use latest MESA PPA and install MESA v7.11 # sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa # sudo aptitude update # sudo aptitude full-upgrade
3. Restart your PC
4. Use winetricks # winetricks corefonts # winetricks d3dx9 # winetricks vcrun2008
5. Install Eve Download the latest EVE Online Installer # wine EVE_Premium_Setup_xxxxxx.exe
6. Enjoy the game
Notes: - Please do not forget to remove the mesa PPA update and wine PPA update and remove the PPA sources before upgrading Ubuntu (e.g. to Oneric) !!
