Model Name:MacBook Model Identifier:MacBook5,2 Processor Name:Intel Core 2 Duo Processor Speed:2 GHz Number Of Processors:1 Total Number Of Cores:2 L2 Cache:3 MB Memory:2 GB Bus Speed:1.07 GHz Boot ROM Version:MB52.0088.B05 After hours and hours of frustration waiting for the Eve Online servers to go back online, and finding that Incarna was yet still not ready to be released properly due to some minor yet disturbing errors slipped by into the release, i now want to give a small review/feedback to CCP on what i think about Incarna on Mac.
Since i bought the game, ive played the game with max graphics to enjoy its crisp texture and stunning visual power with no performance hinderance. But since the new carbon character was released, i did have fears on wether Incarna CQ was going to have the same performance problems on my mac. Since i'm one of those groups of people that eagerly have been waiting for CQ with incarna, i did not want to give up on it that easily by simply going easy-mode and turning it off. I consider the old ship spinning dock system boring.
I've been playing around with the settings now to try and get the best possible performance and still try keeping the great visuals of crisp textures on my ships.
I found that the with everything else on "High", the real performance cruncher was the "Shader Quality". Other settings that i had to keep low was "Interior Effects", and for the Character Creation side "Low Quality Characters" enabled, "Texture Quality" set to low and "Physically Simulated Cloth and Hair" Disabled.
With those main settings turned down/off CQ was now a viable to use again. However that being said, I could have lived with the most of those things off or set to low, but the one real bummer i found was the Shader Quality.
Secondly, the controls, WASD to controlling your character are rather un-responsive/delayed. On top of that, when trying to chat or write something, my character starts to walk around like a handicap when using, WASD keys. Which in my opinion, is just simply annoying. So i would like that have the walk keys disabled when engaging in typing.
All in all its not half bad but its not decent enough for Mac users. And i can understand those people who simply turn CQ off because it just either disrupts gameplay due to performance and/or long loading times when entering CQ. If i was not this stubborn, i too would have turned it off immediately. And that kinda beats the purpose of Incarna in general. The only thing i can give 10/10, an A+ and 5 Stars, is the New Turret looks and animations. Thats as positive i can be right now with Incarna.
This is my opinion only. I hope you (CCP, who silently reads forum posts) will dwell on this. There certainly needs some improvements on Graphic performance and the current stress the CPU is put under.
