For a first release of a new system that's radically different than what CCP is used to, its pretty great! It really helps to convey the feel of you actually being a person and not just a big spaceship. I'm sure you guys are all ready working on this stuff for the next update but there are a few things I thought might be helpful.
Some (hopefully) constructive criticism on the new system...
* Character movement is pretty wonky right now, A and D buttons should make you either strafe left / right instead of rotate. The lack of strafing controls makes it harder to drive my guy around. Mouselook movement would make navigating around the room much easier. Look at other popular MMOs to get the feel for it.
* I like how you can still access the station services bar when the captains quarters is loading, I would prefer it if the station bar ran at a bit higher priority than the loading of the world space. Its pretty good right now but its still a bit laggy.
* Ideally, I would love to see every option in the station services represented somehow in the captains quarters, stuff like managing your ship repairs, clones, LP store, etc would be nice and make it easier to get used to working in that space. There were a few times where it felt a little jarring to have to stop using all the clickable stuff in the world and go back to the station bar because I couldn't figure out how to repair my ship.
* Selecting the couch to sit is a little weird, sometimes it seems to work fine, other times I have to wave the mouse around on it a bunch to have it display the prompts.
* One of my corpmates asked where the toilet was, we think it's behind the door that leads out of the captain's quarters, but since the door is locked I guess we all just have to hold it for now :P
Thanks for the awesome update CCP, hope the forum rage doesn't scare you off from continuing support / updates on this.

Hold down I think the left mouse button and character will follow the camera, use the right and the camera stays static while using movement keys. It's very similar to how movement works in Hitman and other 3rd person games like Hitman. - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |

I remember something similar to this when I was figuring out the controls. Yeah it works but it just feels really weird to me. Maybe it would be better if we could configure this stuff on our own?

Indeed. I must say, I went from thinking "hmm" while wandering around the quarters , to uttering "woww" when I stepped out onto the balcony. There's work to be done, no doubt, but this is a good effort.

I agree so hard on this. The first thing I wanted to do when I walked on station was to watch my avatar take a crap.
As we do not currently have this feature, I've been pretending my character is sneaking into someone else's quarters to make boom boom on their couch.
Maybe that's why you have trouble sitting down? ---

Yeah it takes getting used to, but you don't actually have to use the movement keys, you can double click on the floor and it'll walk over to the spot on it's own...which is nice due to the lack of running...at least I can get up and go get some coffee while I walk from the hangar to my couch lol... - [SERVICE] Corp Standings For POS anchoring |

Seeing as how most people who keep spamming these "I am quitting eve/I hate incarna/this is fail/end of eve" posts consist of usually the same group of people posting 1+ time in most incarna hate threads....I doubt of the many different pilots in eve the majority are the haters....you just see the ones with the loudest voices in the forums.
I like incarna and the way its heading....yes there are some features I dont like.....but eve was becoming stale and one dimensional and I believe Incarna is a interesting way to expand the feel of this being a game based in space and in spaceships. To show there is virtual life beyond the spaceships....I think people have become to complacent thinking they are the ones who decide what eve is and will become.

I honestly never emo ( lol ) raged like this on forums about a patch, the main issue is not that I do no like the new ideas or perspectives of EVE its all good stuff, its just they killed the Incarna with rather unrealistic vanity item pricing, made CQ feature very clumsy that actually does not do anything new, just makes operation more clumsy... why any normal eve player would support Incarna at this point idk, but the new turret effects and some new sounds were a great addition to the game play.
Also there was this issue of hyping the Incarna like its going to be a break-thru; what turned out to be a complete disaster according to CCP history of expacs and pretty straight forward threads/posts on the general forum simply confirming this.
I repeat I like new cool idea and features and different content to make the current game play BETTER not worse.

Putting asside any peformance issues there is an "editorial" issue that I'm pretty sure signals some huge gap between what I think fits a fun gaming environment and what their perception is.
While the rendering of the faces might be "cutting edge" a far bigger part about realism to me is the posture and emotion shown in the way arms swing, the bounc or lack of bounce in the step, shrugs of shoulders, pace and acceleration of the way an arm swings.
A stick figure can be far more "realistic" than these 3d still model manequins.
An athelete swaggers.. ... think of our modern day fighter pilots . Male or female, most of them have a sort of swagger. They'd probably jump over the couch and land on their butts on it and grab the remote.
Not all will swagger.. some might want to mope,... others jitter.. others bounce along like a happy puppie... but that sort of thing... NOW THAT might be worth some performance strain if it HAD to create peformance strain(I don't believe that it does though)
Hell Super Mario brothers had a lot more realism than this crap. These things are zombies.. and what emotion they do show is so delayed it takes all fun out of trying to manipulate its display.
I'd like to have guys be able to go around put others in headlocks.. stomp on others toes,,,... hell its pvp isnt it? FOOD Fight! that would be awseom to peg people in their fancy clothes with tomatos
How are we going to have any hinjinx or silly fun with these things? Where's the goofy fun at?
I don't think that a goal... Im not sure what the goal is... serious space environment?
I haven't heard many serious people on teamspeak... and the few that are get trolled until they either lighten up or show some emotion by going emo.
The characters abilty to show emotion has gotta be able to fit the players game moods... well I 'd think so

I stayed optimistic for this expansion despite all of the flame/hate against it.
After playing for 3 minutes, I formally admit I was wrong, and most everyone else was right.
After playing for 10 minutes and doing the math on the vanity items, I logged off.
Do I have the isk to buy all the items? Yes, and I wouldn't miss the isk that much if at all. Do I in any way, shape, or form enjoy the direction this game just took? Absolutely not.
Absolutely not.

This actually works pretty good. I also noticed that you can hold both mouse buttons to walk around without using the keyboard at all.

Edited by: Flynn Fetladral on 22/06/2011 18:01:12 I agree. I expected to load into CQ and it be a massive pile of 10 FPS crap. Nothing in CQ seems massively useful to me. However, I instantly saw how better it would be for new players joining EVE. Some kinks need to be ironed out. Example, it's not massively obvious you can interact with the holo screens, you get a subtle change in state, but for new players it may not be obvious enough. In terms of fleshing out the game and lore of EVE, I have high hopes for the future based on CQ. There are things which I'm not too keen on that make moving stuff around into ship cargo and stuff a little annoying. The big change away from what were used to before makes it more counter intuitive (though I need to check if you can access it via the right click menu, I forgot to try at the time). Almost everything else is pretty much how it was before just from a different POV. You can undock at any point, and a bunch of the services have standard UI buttons. CCP Should continue to make sure older players used to the how things used to be can do things like they used to as much a possible, alongside letting people that want to play 'spaceships, and spaceships only' continue as normal without trying to sell them lipstick or make them do some kinda of quest for space elves. But yeah pretty good job, needs a few tweeks in my opinion. Obviously the biggest part of this expansion is pretty much all backend, so yeah I can see why people will be upset without bells and whistles inside their CQ.
Selecting objects like the couch, as raised already is odd, and it seems hard to find the area to click on. Hovering over the couch does not bring up the menu for me, I have to find the right area over the couch to hover over to make it work. I was surprised to see only Minmatar Quarters, I thought you would of had the others ready at the get go. Moving seems a bit odd at time, and I always feel like I want to zoom out more from my character to get a better view of my surroundings. It would be nice to be able to still right click on your ship while viewing it. I feel like you guys need to focus on unifying the overall UI, we now have how I see it three layers. Options accessible via 'Character Sheet', Main Game UI, and finally now interactive UI within the game environment. It's getting complex and blotted and it's not massively user-friendly. You need to make this more streamlined for the sake of new players and all of us. It needs to allow us to do stuff without needing to use any in-game scene menus. A good main menu and overall UI should allow us easy access to everything, let people use the in game scene UI elements, they are cool, but let players make that choice.
New agent finder, and new recruitment tools are good. Turrets are awesome, now you need to update most the ships though ;-) some of the new hard points look like the turret got glued into place, over it actually fitting the placement.
NEX prices are insane, for the real life price equivalents of some of the items for sale, I can get almost 6 months of subscription to the game. The idea, from my perspective was to sell stuff for cheap so people see it as throw away money, like Apps on the iPhone and buy lots of items all the time. But that is up to you CCP, maybe it will workout awesome for you. They don't force players to buy the stuff. Everyone cried foul when we thought they would charge for items that give people an edge. The CMS helped encourage CCP to go back on that idea, which was bloody good too! Now CCP is offering vanity items only (ok it's overpriced) and everyone who slated the whole thing is crying cos the items are too expensive? lol, sheesh make up your damn minds people. But really for the majority of players where NEX is concerned it's business as usual.

I absolutely agree with the OP . . great work with this expansion. The added since of "being there" really transforms the game into something we all can better identify with. Of course, there are tweaks that can be made but over-all this improvement makes the game a more immersive and dynamic environment. Thank you CCP!

now station camping tards can whine more cause now we don't have a reason to undock out of boredom for the campers :P
when they open it up and add station games and such then station camper tears will fuel my entertainment

I don't post much but I wanted to say thanks to CCP for this update. Ever since I've been playing I have wanted to be able to walk about like regular folk. I think CCP is off to a good start. As someone else already said, I hope they will not take any negativity to heart. There are always those who just hate change. It is good to remember this is the start of something very new. There was someone somewhere that posted up an idea about using the in game browser on one of the screens in the captain's quarters. I would imagine it would act kind of goofy but its a neat concept. Maybe let it zoom in on the big screen so it becomes your own screen or something like that.
How about show video snippets from the alliance tournament too, that would add some cohesion to the universe, like all the captains are sitting at home watching the big game :D
I like the dynamic display of all of the content, really pretty impressive to watch. Would be great to see more of this meta data displayed in different ways on screens around the room.

Yup I like it too, but needs improvement on how the Avatar moves. Take a cue (queue?) from the popular MMO's such as WoW and LotRO on the fluidity and "fun factor" of movement in those games..you just want to hit spacebar and jump around a lot of the time.
Lots of potential here, and tbh, when I first joined EVE years ago, I was disappointed in the whole hangar ship spinning thing. Used to think to myself...'this is it???' At least now we're going some place with this with the ability to get out of pods.

This was something i was missing too, when i first stubled over Eve Online. Even if it is/was not important for the way of playing.
I welcome the CQ too, and i think, it's a first step of a nice addition to the Eve Online known by the players. I suppose, that CCP is already taking care of some 'unhappy' issues others encounterd with Incarna.
<edit>It would be very nice to have a choice like "dock" & "dock and enter Station" in the right-click-Menu. This would calm down many people.</edit>
