Originally by: RAW23 Edited by: RAW23 on 22/06/2011 23:38:24 In light of recent indications of CCP's intentions with regard to the future trajectory of EVE Online a lot of people have become very annoyed. This is a wonderful thing, not because EVE players like nothing more than for other EVE players to be annoyed, but because it is only through such high emotions that people can get motivated enough to take action against unacceptable incremental changes to the environment that they value. In order to offer some small further encouragement to the political activism that is blossoming in EVE at the moment, I am offering a 10 billion isk prize fund for the most creative acts of legitimate protest that the community can muster. The prize for the most inventive and effective protest in the next 30 days will be 7.5 billion isk, with a runners-up prize of 2.5 billion. The organiser of the protest should post documentary evidence of their action here and preferably also alert me via eve-mail.
I will lodge the funds with Grendell tomorrow (if he is willing to hold them) and the winner will be picked by a panel of independent judges (not including myself) once the month is up. But please remember that all in-game and meta-game protests must be legal and not go against the rules of the game.
Edit - Three commas added in response to post 6.
Send me you full api key, the full founds or you're just making fun of nerds (in this case just send me the isk)

I, in no way expect to win this competition, but my protest is to not partake in the microtransaction portion of the game and expect all of my characters on all of my accounts to maintain a 0 aurum balance for the next 30 months or years, let alone the next 30 days.

With 10 billion isk as prize money I could afford slightly less than ten monocles.

Edited by: kardjaval on 23/06/2011 12:20:14 i have a flight for Reykjavik on the 7th, and i plan to launch a formal complaint, in person, possibly with large cardboards signs.
on that note, does iceland have a freedom of speech thing, can i get in trouble for peaceful picketing?

Edited by: ISK''ender Ke''bab on 23/06/2011 13:05:07 I hereby encourage all Captains of New Eden to go through their pockets and send, via regular mail, all unneeded quarters to CCP hq in Iceland.
If you happen to use a currency, such as the Euro, that does not make use of quarters and you have no means of getting your hands on some, you may opt to send 20cent and 5cent coins bundled together to form such instead.
Please find the address for CCP hq, for example, here Please remember to mark the envelope with the magic words "Captain's Quarters"
This shall be my protest - and I expect to receive 10b ISK for it.
EDIT: typos etc. hungry? |

Edited by: Maddi5on on 23/06/2011 14:09:30 Personally I don't have a problem with direction, but an event like this is counterproductive to your cause, CCP wont pay any attention to a protest that has a 10bill reward pinned to it, illegitimacy is now questionable for all entrants ffs this is eve.

Protest and resistance are not one dimensional. It is not the case that all impact will be directly on CCP. Rather, the idea is as much to raise awareness of the issues and provide some kernels around which more things can be built. Think of the protests in Tahrir Square: the Egyptian government didn't fall because of the protests on the first day but rather because of the thing that they grew into. I'm trying to offer some stimulus for the first day.

So, your response is to reward CCP with 30 months or years of subscription fees?

Edited by: Myra2007 on 23/06/2011 20:06:12 I also want to nominate "Maziy" for giving us the glorious John Turbefield thread. This protest is extremely nice because it shows CCP a way out of their self inflicted misery. It also inspires hope that there might be some soul left in ccp. It's also funny as hell! Probably the best protest is walking away from Eve and letting CCP suicide itself, leaving the morons who give them money, to suffer in what will become a very horrible mutated game that was once amazing, ingenious, and thrilling in a variety of ways.

They call "in game events" a tentative to mass protest against them... They are truly fearless :D --- Better I spend my subscription fee on hookers rather than monocles; at least they pretend to care about me.

May I put forth the idea of doing a dirty protest in the only way Eve will allow, find a suitable system and only allow Minmatar ships into it for a period of time.
Once all ships in system are a nice shade of filthy brown you can all form a circle and start a prayer service to Johnny Turbo.
If I had more time to play the game I'd have a go at this, but at the moment I live at work so no Eve time for me.

Some great ideas here already. The key for those that are still in the ideas phase is to actually follow through on them, though. Or get someone else to. Or both.
10bil has been deposited with Grendell and he will post here to confirm sometime soon. I have also been pursuing a judging panel and will update on this as soon as I know who is in and who is out.

Get all the manufacturers and traders to stop for one week. Stop buying, stop selling, stop contracting, stop manufacturing and stop mining. Stop your PI extractors. Stop selling salvage. Just stop. Go on a genuine strike, the first strike in a virtual world. Break the economy, and force CCP to do something. Without industrials doing their thing, EVE is a loss as no-one can get what they need.
If CCP's cash cow's vital organs fail, then the cash flow stops. When that happens citigroup corporates will take notice.

How about a massive maller fleet, form up around trade hubs, move to a low sec system, like decon or seyllin and sit on the gate killing anything we can. Some guards might help too.
Support the only real content that came out of this patch, support the maller!

Unfortunate that this thread has been nerfed by moving it here.
Think the protests yesterday at Jita and Amarr (that I was part of) may be prime candidates for the award.
Having read Zulu's blog and Hilmar's email, I am now determined to stage a prolonged and determined protest. Am experimenting with what can be done and will update here when I have finalized my plan.

I want to get this right..
People are upset over a virtual world.
The prize is 10 bil ISK, of virtual money, made in a virtual economy.
People will be using virtual ships, or docked in virtual stations, making a virtual protest.
Does anybody feel this stuff is getting weird?
Maybe it's time to shut the computer off and get some fresh air.
