i was saying this when soundwave attacked my game last year. He has no idea. He needs demoting to the point where he is not actually making decisions about our game.

And like I said before, he should change his name to Shockwave. KA-BAMMMMM!

The Newsletter is probably signed-off by a C-level (CEO, COO, CFO etc.), so I doubt there would be any employee statements that didn't follow CCP's business strategy. He should of course not be fired - he is just doing his job.

I really wasn't referring to him as ****** as my point being that sometimes you have to nip things before they get out of hand. Often what people say/write is what they will do regardless of popular opinion and that article is a good example.

Originally by: Chaos Incarnate You know, while I normally enjoy threads filled with threats of violence against real life people over internet spaceship monocles...haha no wait I don't actually, you guys are awful and I am deeply ashamed that I have to post here
First, soundwave is pretty much the lead developer on flying in space features at the moment, and he and his team have done hard work improving the quality of life within eve in the last few months. They are now supposedly working on iterations for POSs, nullsec warfare and ship balance for the winter expansion. So, yeah, boo, fire that guy, fixing those things that people want fixed, what an ass he must be
Second, he put a lot of effort into hosting AT9 and doing who knows what else behind the scenes, and he deserves a good bit of respect for that too
Third, while his actual opinion expressed in the article is indeed very wrong, he strikes me as an entirely reasonable fellow that you could perhaps convince of the correctness of your position, if only you weren't attempting to burn him in effigy over the internet for having an opinion contrary to your own
tldr: the lot of you need to stop posting and go relax or something
Well, I can only say I agree with this. I usually find the forum enjoyable and entertaining but this thread actually makes me angry.
While I'm used to the usual whine/hate, this thread is one giant ****cluster. What the bloody hell is wrong with people? Maybe it's just my displaced sense of dignity/decency but targeting a single person with this damn attitude and hostility is just plain idiotic.
I've tried ending up hating the forum once or twice but never ashamed of it. This is pretty much the lowest I've seen people get here. Something isn't right when I actually get angry for real around here.

Relax. No one is hating anyone here.
This thread is simply pointing out how someone can press on with their plans knowing and admitting fully that it will enrage the player base, solely because he finds the idea attractive.
In other words, it's his EVE and no one else's, so screw you. --- So should this guy be fired or promoted? |

This is what makes him a very dangerous person to the game. No you won't be able to convice him to change his position. The guy has a lot of experience with EVE so he knows what he is talking about.
This is a person that does not care about the game, only about the $$ for CCP.
I would have more respect for CCP if they just wanted to raise the subscription. I don't even care about $ for vanity items, but $ for performance enhancers or non-vanity items is the end of EVE for me.

No, first because a lot of the posting done about that document so far has been the same doomsayers who are always trolling and posting half truths.
So what if someone expresses their opinion that they think micro-transactions should be a part of the game. How about if you post a picture/link of the article, you post the entirety of it instead only a third of what is there.
As a whole his article seems to only show that while he may be in favor of micro-transactions, he also thinks it should be done carefully and done well. At no point does he suggest implementing anything that would give a player an advantage in gameplay over another player.
He also advocates that their should be a way for players just playing the game to earn the actual micro-currency, whether it be for just continuing to play the game or for doing something in game.
You and all the other sheep who jump on the forums and post your half truths and other bull **** are the problem. You are why reasonable players can not try to address real issues that occur with these sorts of things.
I would not buy these new items even if they were more reasonably priced, but it doesn't mean that its a bad thing, or that it was wasted development.
TLDR;
Shut the **** up you trolls and sheep, try taking something in context for once instead of being the idiots you are.

EVE is a far more complex game with significantly more social interaction, which changes a great deal about how you can approach virtual goods sales. While itÆs true that others, such as Blizzard have gone down the microtransaction path, they have not implemented any gameplay affecting items.
More revenue is of course an aim, but making our customers feel like they are being ædouble billedÆ to be able to play on the same level as others is just a step too far.

Apologies in advance, but you are plainly and obviously the idiot, and especially so for calling others trolls and sheep.
Even though Kristoffer is marginally balanced in his statements, he is still quite clearly an active cheerleader for 'virtual goods sales' (not such a dirty word as micro-transactions). Moreover, you obviously don't have a clue as to how his examples could drastically and totally unbalance the economy and socio-political landscape of Eve.
His suggestion of rewarding 'high-level gameplay like taking sovereignty' is absolutely ludicrous, since this would do nothing but reinforce the already stagnant nullsec situation, and thus continue to prevent smaller alliances from taking a foothold there.
Also, the notion of providing more storage capacity for ship fittings is a classic example of removing a feature from the game, and then forcing the playerbase to pay in order to get it back, simply for the purpose of revenue generation and nothing else.
Next time, maybe you should read things twice, or maybe three times before you make such stupid statements.

And what is wrong with selling additional server space for real money? (assumed that they don't downgrade the game intentionally so that you must have to buy stuff to make it an enjoyable experience)
What would be wrong for example if CCP hosted corp/alliance forums for some fee?
What would be wrong if CCP offered to host killboards for a fee?
Especially if that fee could be paid with in game money.
You still could continue to use third party forums/killsboards just like you are doing now, so no change in that. Or you could use the ccp things (which probably wouldn't offer that many options anyway :P). No big difference in SUCH things.
I see no big deal with selling non-gameplay-influencing things. It is a thin line though, one must be very careful. Are ship fittings already gameplay influencing? Yes. Are additional fitting slots gameplay influencing? Maybe, it depends on how many slots you got in the first place.
It is a very thin line. One must be very careful with those decisions and must consult with the playerbase first.
But who wants to trust CCP these days? With all their BS recently.
