Yes, we seem to be split in our conversation.
And yes, I know...dreadful looking things. I prefer my bright blue optical implants. Old-school, yet classic. I'm glad the monocle fad is over.

I'd be content with just you in their stead, considering that you place your own moral position so highly!

It is indeed. I was merely explaining the situation from their perspective, Admiral Blake. If they did not consider slavery, and subsequently those who practice it, as evil, then they wouldn't be so vehemently declaring the up and coming consequences to all the aforementioned practitioners of slavery.
Therefore, from their perspective, slavers are evil. Hence the wording of my statement.

Captain Makari,
As you well know, I have some respect for you. However, the question above is impossible to answer correctly because it is entirely relative. There are any number of reasons why people will treat an individual, group of people or an entire species with disdain or hostility and those doing so may not all have the same reasons for it.
People could detest the Amarr for a number of reasons, including but not limited to:
The acceptance of slavery The practice of slavery (whether it be simply the principle of slavery or the fact that entire generations are enslaved) Religion Religious zealotry Aggressive defense of ideals and ideology The outspoken belief of supremacy over other beings Arrogance
Not all of these traits are reflected in every single Amarr, but they embody the image of the Amarr in other's perceptions.
One could also provide an objective list of why people are hostile to the Gallenteans, Matari or Caldari.

I would add one other thing to that list.
Greed.
Not the greed of the Amarr people, but the greed of others who look at what the Empire has been able to build and achieve for several thousand years. People want a piece of the pie.
Not all, not in every instance. But I beleive it is a factor.

I am sorry but I do not think that you have all the cards in hand on this matter.
Originally by: N'maro Makari To any of the Amarr reading: Do you understand why it is people treat you with hostility?
I have answered numerous times to similar questions from others before, and my answer remains the same : yes. And as usual, I could also ask back if you do understand why is it people treat Mataris with hostility.
You are certainly not the first Matari coming here half ignorant, for that you seem to only have listened to the Republic view, which is limited to their own, like any other governement and culture. You came here pointing out the obvious about slavery, which is here about abuses. You also forget that there are many abuses, starting in the Republic itself, and they are no less worth of consideration. It is not a fundamentaly bad thing to point out what people consider wrong, though it it better to keep the bigger picture in mind or we inevitably end up into grave inconsistencies and bias when it comes to constructive disucssion.
On that point, like someone I respect deeply said yersterday, a majority of Matari suffer from the "victims syndrome". They have been keeping telling that to themselves for so long, forgetting almost everything else and losing sight of all other similar facts worth of consideration that the only remaining thing that they still see is this : slavery and what have been done to some of them.
Now then, you might want to take a look to the consequences of the Elder invasion, where a lot might argue that the victims changed side. You might want to take a look to the amounts of Voluval outcasts that I see everyday coming in Arzad or in the Mandate. You might want to take a look at all the amarrian citizens that have disappeared or have been abducted by the Republic. You might want to look at former slaves like Abel Jarek turned into martyrs and burnt at stake in the middle of the Republic, or bullied everyday for what they are. And then, when the Matari will be also able to admit their wrongdoings too, discussions will be able to really begin. Not before, or it will only be unilateral. |

Agreed......if you haven't noticed quite a few ammatar left to go back to being Nefantar since the Elder fleet came through. Granted most seem to be having trouble fitting back in to the Republic and are hanging out with Thukker tribe along with a large portion of the Starkmanir. And yes there are problems with people going against them and causing problems on a variety of planets. I however support them both. The Nefantar did their duty, they protected the Starkmanir from extinction. If anything I would enjoy seeing them both go back into the government and lead. It has been far too long.

That's an interesting idea.
Do you belive the tribes who currently run the Republic would be willing to share power with the Starkmanir, Nefanter and Thukkers?

If the Nefantar had done their duty in the first place perhaps others wouldn't be causing problems for them now. As for leading the Republic... we could assume they already do: slave trading and Amarrian commercial operations within Republic borders, all with the government's blessing?

Clarification on semantics : the Nefantar Tribe is no Ammatar anymore, since they left the Mandate for the Republic. |
