On a scale from 0 to 10, 0 being no MT at all, 10 being all out MT, the playerbase wants something between 0-3, while the shareholders want 10.
Step 1 Begin manipulation by placing a moderate candidate (Turbefiel, ~5 on the scale, only vanity and convenience MT) and an extreme candidate (Soundwave, ~10 on the scale). Players rally behind Turbefield, being the lesser of two evils.
Step 2 Determine current maximum pain threshold of the playerbase and settle for an according "compromise" between 5 and 10.
Step 3 Wait for the dust to settle, then go to step 1 to increase the MT level.
Rinse and repeat steps until desired status is achieved. Just like in RL politics... ________________________ CCP: Where fixing bugs is a luxury, not an obligation. |

CCP is a private company. Presumably the Russian mafia want a 10.

They are not a publicly traded company, but they do have shareholders. Its also mentioned in the last page of the bulleting IIRC. ________________________ CCP: Where fixing bugs is a luxury, not an obligation. |

Well sure but we have no idea who really pulls the strings or owns the shares as its not a (contemporary) matter of public record really. CCP is a business though and investors, of which they must have many, want returns. Natural state of affairs ..

Shareholders don't really want 10. They are just blind and can't see it yet. [Petition] Make entry into CQ and Incarna optional. |

I don't think the playerbase wanted any MT, it was forced upon us from high & we had to accept it through the CSM as long as it only ever provided vanity items.
I and a lot of others I know still hated the idea but we went along for the ride, then the patch dropped & we saw the outrageous prices & how crap Incarna really is and the penny finally dropped - CCP has screwed the pooch!
Regardless of the authenticity of the leaked PDF, it may as well be real IMO

They do want 10, that's where the analysts promised maximum returns.
The manipulation was intended to be applied internally, as many inside CCP are also unhappy with the direction things are headed. But now that it leaked it's working on the playerbase as well. ________________________ CCP: Where fixing bugs is a luxury, not an obligation. |

If they want 10, and we wanted 1, we'd still get 9. It's only a matter of time

What does the shareholders got to do with it? I very much doubt they want to destroy there asset by wanting something like that.
This is a management breakdown because someone is too focused on making this quarters figures look better and have lost the big picture.

What he's saying is they may want a 10, but he's skeptical that a 10 will actually be good for them.

In all companies that hold less than 51% of their own shares the upper management is typically the shareholders hoe. MT was a "me too" move from CCP, because quote "everyone else is doing it" and "CCP won't become a dinosaur". In the end it doesn't matter if this strategic decision was made by the shareholders or upper management. They believe they can increase total profit by doing this. I think that while the ARPU might indeed go up, it might very well not compensate for the playerbase fallout. ________________________ CCP: Where fixing bugs is a luxury, not an obligation. |

Edited by: Morino Heian on 23/06/2011 13:07:06 Perhaps that is the case. Things like this are made all the time.
I totally agree that the Soundwave option is foobar and should not get implemented to EVE ever. However I also dont see how the "5" option could be still considered evil. I mean, for a vanity MT, how on earth does this hurt anyones game? For all I care they could even sell that monocle for 1000$. If there will be someone crazy enough to buy it, why should I make a QQ about it? It wont affect your gameplay in any way. Apart from maybe more lulz while watching a killboard victim mug shot. In fact, tbh I think that RMT is actually a good model for this whole dressing meta-game. Would you want to see high heels start to drop from rats wrecks?
