I very rarely care enough abut something in eve to warrant posting on these forums but watching this unfold with CCP's handling of the leak and it's contents, the rubbish that is CQ and the introduction of Microtransactions all in the same week leaves me a bit stunned.
CCP has become dumb, deaf and blind to the demographic and has seriously underesitmated us and are showing they don't understand what has made them successful and viable in the MMO space.
Why is it most MMO's fail? because they go after the WOW demographic. Fact is EVE doesn't and never has competed with WOW. The players are at pollar opposites as far as what they want or expect in terms of game play outcomes. We live for the rush of consequences, they do not.
The crap you can get away with in that other demographic you can't here. Lets be quite clear, mircotransactions have no place in EVE, it's beneath us and highly insulting.
There is a reason DUST won't effect EVE subs and its again CCP know that the ppl that play that sort of console FPS crap full time is NOT the general EVE demographic so DUST won't compete with EVE but they have now made the mistake of thinking you can bring that market research into EVE.
Dust needs mircotransactions thats how games make money on the PSN network, selling costumes and all manner of vanity and game altering items.
That is not what EVE is and it's not something we as players are or should be willing to except.
Nex is a distraction on our landscape and a waste of OUR development time, we are the subscribers we don't get a free game we pay for it and a lot of us multiple times over, we expect the game play issues that effect us to be top priority.
CQ I have no issue with other then I wish we could have the choice between ship spinning or CQ... CQ is essentially the beginning of walking in stations which has been on the dance card since beta however we all know CQ is not about EVE, it's the beta testing of the CCP engine for their other titles.
So really have to ask what are you really doing for us CCP? and Zulu that apology is an insult, it's nothing of the kind and just proves you have lost touch with what makes EVE special. The sandbox is nothing without the people playing in it.
Handing out perm bans to upset community leaders is a mistake and heavy handed inlight of the crap you are pulling, a temp ban maybe to clear heads but perms don't help your cause at all.

This whole situation sucks, but I honestly doubt CCP will succeed in improving it. This hole they dug is just too deep.

QFT&J, this article is what mainly changed my mind about this whole affair. I don't want to see Eve go down this road.
Sony just finally announced today that they're turning off SWG, in fact. Wonder how much the property was worth after the post-NGE crash.

Well me myself has no problems with the graphics or the performence (all pcs are different setups). But sellin clothes for the price of a battleship , and glasses for the price of a almost full fittet carrier is just ridicoulus. The shout from one of the ccps That people buy a jeans for 1000$ in rl may be right but i dont think that bill gates or anyone else would buy some useless glasses for the price of a Carrier like the USS Enterprise.....or lets say 5 Private Planes ......but i dont think the prize itself is the problem as it is what it stands for.....but the whole thing with the aur is not understandeble for me since its not needed people that want to make money with rl money buy plex and sell em ....Aur would make maybe sence to interact with Dust514 but not with useless glasses in eve.... All in all some things i like is the Info-Screen which shows sov changes and other stuff as i look forward to poker with some m8s while camping the station full of fear in low sec ^^

CPP call it a sandbox, just there in control of the sand in that box, when the children decide oh them toy box'x over there are more fun to play with CCP wont have any children wanting to play with the sand.
I'm allready thinking time to retire eve, as ccp put in a damn feature that requires me to buy 64bit os, and a new gfx card. However fun games like portal 2 run fine on full whack settings!
CCP get out of bed with NVIDIA/Sony and give us ATI/XBOX owners some love. I'm still rather annoyed over the discontinuation of the classic client! It was ugly but I had my 60 fps! And for the selling point of ghost training, don't go there!

WAKE UP CCP, especially CCP ZULU
REAL world does not equal to VIRTUAL world, how can you make a direct comparison between Japanese boutique store (in real world) and NeX (in virtual world)? If people want to show off, obviously they would prefer to show off in real world. (ask yourself Zulu, if you had a pair of $1000 jeans, would you like to showoff in real world or virtual world??)
Another simple question, do you want/prefer to have s*x in real world or virtual world? I guess you probably played japanese H-Game too much that you think they are the same thing....please be realistic

I love EVE. It is the most complex and challenging game I know. I love the interaction with thousands of players in a single virtual enviroment. I dont care, if people like to be able to walk around - I dont. I dont care, if those, who want to walk around, want to see expensive (real money) pixels - I dont. But I do care, with those non-apology apologies - I imagine, that it is hard now to be somewhere in the middle in CCP... make sure the message get to the high ups before it is too late (it is 11:58 now)! And I will care, if those buyable items will affect game balance or game play. And then I will stop burning PLEXes for my three accounts nor buying any GTCs. Incarna and CCP's attitude towards the player base made me the first time look for alternatives... Perpeetium looks promising, gonna check out others like Dark Prophecies... My guess to get CCP and EVE alive out of this mess is: Sell Dust, cancel Walking on Stations, focus back on EVE as internet spaceships game, shrink company back to < 150 people in one office, reconnect to the community and your employees, use the CSM, use polls for future development direction und most important bug fixes. |

No, it's not your game anymore than SWG belonged to its players. Your choice is to stay and do things the way they will dictate or to leave.

Someone said it a few weeks back. It's a sandbox, but the longer you play the more you realise it's 2inches deep and full of ****.

Originally by: Empyra Skye Wow, some real hotheads in this community. A couple observations from someone who is not caught up in emo rage:
- the server is still full of players and people are not leaving in droves (as much as certain bloggers and forum trolls would like you to believe). good riddance bitter ones - don't let the door hit you in the ass... - e-peen clothing is overpriced. so what. if you don't like it, don't buy it. let the people who want to blow money on e-peenage go for it. they enrich ccp and fund development. works for me. - ccp wants to possibly sell convenience items. so what. i play LOTRO actively. they sell lots of convenience items. i don't buy any because i think they are a rip off. people with less time and more money do. populations have been increasing for a year now in LOTRO. more money in the Turbine coffers is already having a noticable (and positive) effect on the game. this is a good thing. - the memo is confirmed as real now. ok. doesn't change anything, i get that they are trying to have an internal exchange of ideas and fully support it. i would do the same thing. ccp is a business after all. - convenience items do not equal in game advantage. i repeat, convenience items DO NOT equal in game advantage. they save time for people who have money to burn. let them buy faction. who cares. it makes a game i love better by giving the devs more money to spend on it. if you want in game advantage buy plex, convert to ISK, and buy everything you want. spend thousands of real life dollars - go ahead. it will still not make you a good player. oh wait, you can already do that and have been able to do so for a long, long time. hmmm... - life is always changing. the world is not the fantasy land you wish it was in your mind. it would not function very well if it was. - oh yeah, welcome to eve...
Some of what you say may be true. But most people here don't want Eve to be LotRO. There are already lots of games like that. There are no games (that I know of anyway) that are like Eve. What you don't seem to realize is that Eve is a pvp game at it's heart. Thus even a small convenience is an advantage over others regardless of whether it is for combat, trading, or even a small time-saver.

And now that we're about 50 jumps out from where CCP Pann was requesting a discussion, this points out that what us, the player base, is scared of is a very real possibility.
CCP Pann, can you reassure us that game-changing (read - overpowered) items or services will not be introduced any time in the near future?

and:
Quote: EVE is not creating enough revenue which means that solutions are sought, solutions that CCP was vehemently against a few years ago.
... no wonder they ****-up the game finally.
Yes. When employees know that they will not be supported by management, and will be punished for disagreeing, they do not speak up, even when they are aware that the decisions being made are bad ones.
This was a good one from there:
Quote: Fun game play is not a priority, promises made to investors and aesthetics are. æIf it looks good then it is goodÆ is an often heard motto. CCP is committed to use technology in EVE as well as WoD and DUST, so certain features are made and used in EVE knowing they will not be fun, nor fit EVE and no one expects them to be appreciated by the playerbase. Alienating the playerbase of EVE further. Objections from employees who point this out are waved away.
