To be frank, right now im more afraid of ccp responses than any silence. They manage to do the impossible, and just throw more fuel in the flame. They dont do "damage-control" they help ganking their game.

Lets remember that subscriptions mean steady $4.5Mil every month. This is the money they are currently burning for Wod/dust while ignoring EVE. Cancelling subs and going PLEX (there is like 5 years worth of plex stockpiles on the market) will make CCP bleed through their poopoo hole.

It's a little daunting to get into at first and I almost ragequit after my first couple of battles but after awhile when I started to understand the gameplay and the greater mechanics of researching and buying new stuff, it's sort of addictive.
They run a F2P model whereby you can either pay them real money for ingame currency, but you gain currency simply by playing (and shooting people). I was worried that, being a new player, everyone would be in Tigers and Maus tanks but mediums and lights seem to be by far the most popular in all the games I played, not sure why. Managed to get a kill on my 3rd game in just my dinky little noob tank and got a few more kills afterwards.
Some stuff will **** you off. For example being shot by someone you can't see because your equipment or whatever isn't good enough. Some of the maps seem ill-suited for new players and are very open allowing more experienced and better equipped players to see you before you see them but there are also some urban maps where this really isn't a problem.
Every round I've played so far was basically like most modern FPS games; join a battle with something like 20 people per side and just kill each other. There are more game modes but I haven't explored these yet; maybe there is where the "MMO" aspect comes in because so far its basically a FPS where everyone is in tanks and where you have a tech/research tree and buy items instead of just have them automatically unlocked once you hit a certain EXP amount.
Anyway hope this helps anyone who was hesitant to give it a try. I probably won't get too super into it (especially with **** like BF3 coming out in October) but I'll definately keep it installed and play it every so often, especially with friends.
Now all they need is a modern/cold war version with T-72s and M1 Abrams...
WOT is a great little game. You'll figure out pretty soon that you can progress much more quickly in it if you pony up some bucks to buy their "gold". Especially if you get one good money/experience tank to elite status and let the experience you earn build up as "free" experience that you can (buy spending a little of that "gold") convert to experience on any other tank you want to skill up fast.
That being said, there is nothing in the game you can't drive eventually by just spending more time grinding it up.
Well worth keeping on your hard drive.

Yo Pann, how many responses do you need before you respond & give us some answers?
I think by now you should have a pretty good idea what the upset proportion of the community are thinking.
Was this thread just a diversion, a place for us to blow off steam in a convenient single thread -easy to delete, later when you have bought a bit of time?
Guess what, no amount of time is gonna make this go away, the only thing that's gonna go away is a large chunk of the players of EvE.
After reading the insulting Zulu blog I seriously wonder if you guys even care, it's almost as though you are deliberately sabotaging EvE. Is CCP trying to show SOE it can destroy a solid MMO in record time too? Is it some sort of initiation rite into the club of big game companies who believe Greed is Good & players are only suckers to be squeezed & scammed out of every cent they have?
If that's the case looks like CCP is well on the way to gaining membership & a place at the head of the table.

52 monocles, really ? If the price of a monocle was sane I would have had one by now, but Im not going to pay more for a virtual item than I spend on real pants I can wear. Vanity items can be fun, I could see myself buying nice virtual items that cost a few hundred AUR or so, but this is silly.
OTOH, selling gameplay affecting items or services for cash turns Eve into Dark Orbit. Is that the oh so desirable Elephant youre talking about ?
One of the unique things about Eve has always been that whatever effort and time you put in gets you options for your gameplay. Remove that and Eve becomes like any other MMO where you quickly level up and hit endgame content in a few months. I have two subs coming up soon and I wont be renewing them, just to send a message with my wallet, becuse you know: Greed is a double edged sword. |

We live in interesting times; in fact CCP is the kind of company that if things get repetitive we instinctively crank it up a notch. That, we certainly have done this week. First of we have Incarna, an amazing technological and artistic achievement. A vision from years ago realized to a point that no one could have imaged but a few months ago. It rolls out without a hitch, is in some cases faster than what we had before, this is the pinnacle of professional achievement. For all the noise in the channel we should all stand proud, years from now this is what people will remember.
But we have done more, not only have we redefined the production quality one can apply to virtual worlds with the beautiful Incarna but we have also defined what it really means to make virtual reality more meaningful than real life when it comes to launching our new virtual goods currency, Aurum.
Naturally, we have caught the attention of the world. Only a few weeks ago we revealed more information about DUST 514 and now we have done it again by committing to our core purpose as a company by redefining assumptions. After 40 hours we have already sold 52 monocles, generating more revenue than any of the other items in the store.
This we have done after months of research by a group of highly competent professionals, soliciting input and perspective from thought leaders and experts in and around our industry. We have communicated our intention here internally in very wide circles through the Virtual Economy Summit presentation at the GSM, our Fearless newsletter, sprint reviews, email lists and multiple other channels. This should not come as a surprise to anyone.
Currently we are seeing _very predictable feedback_ on what we are doing. Having the perspective of having done this for a decade, I can tell you that this is one of the moments where we look at what our players do and less of what they say. Innovation takes time to set in and the predictable reaction is always to resist change.
We went out with a decisive strategy on pricing and we will stay the course and not flip flop around or knee jerk react to the predictable. That is not saying nothing will change, on the contrary, in fact we know that success in this space is through learning and adapting to _what is actually happening_ and new knowledge gained in addition to what we knew before and expected.
All that said, I couldn't be prouder of what we have accomplished as a company, changing the world is hard and we are doing it as so many times before! Stay the course, we have done this many times before.
The man wants to see action.
you hilmar will never get another cent out of me. thats 8 x $15 x 12 = $1440. hope you enjoy your monical sales

Yes. Also, that family emergency is the most plausible thing that has come out of CCP in the past few days. Want to blame someone, blame the rest of CCP for not stepping in.

Time to add my 2 cents to the threadnought i guess.
I'm not absolutely against the aurum-for-CQ thingy, if it's necessary for keeping things in the black and to assist EVE development (and in the vain hope that we'll get flats/more boots in the near future), but the Hillmar email and the Fearless issue really make it difficult to believe that that's the case.(1)(2)
For me, it's not even primarily a matter of bought advantage, or getting assurances against that possibility. What i'm really worried about is that attitude on its own. One of the reasons i chose EVE over other games was the impression i got that they actually, genuinely, cared about creating something awesome for its own sake, and the players' enjoyment of it. And that made it worth sticking around with for the long term, the expectation that it would constantly improve, and that decisions weren't based on short-term profit grabbing. Maybe i am just being naive, okay, i probably am just being naive, but i thought CCP was above all that objectivist corporate bull****.
I'm sure a sizeable portion of the company is smarter than that, but when the CEO and internal publications take such a callous attitude towards the players and the game, then it might not matter how the rest of the company feels. And given the CCP employee reviews linked earlier(3), well, i'm not feeling terribly hopeful.
And, well, if that's the case, a future of micro-transactions, bought advantage, cheap profit and mediocrity seems worryingly likely.
Still, not saying i wouldn't like CCP to prove me wrong.

1 down, another 51 to go.
If draketrain weren't a bunch of nitwits to start with, I might actually wonder if they'd act on this.
But it's draketrain, not to mention fail-draketrain that is a shadow of it's own former doucheness.

Its helping us? Like hybrids beeing left in their state for what now? 3 years? Pretty much every major concern ever beeing totally ignored untill it feels convenient to change it?
You seriously need to stop kidding yourself.
To my knowlage, most games dont charge for expansions. Heck, the entire asian mmo market isnt. Just because they have a little ethics left, isnt any reason to praise them.
Helping us as follows: adding new people to shoot at, sparking more isk flowing, adding a new cool way for sov warfare (hopefully reducing blobs?) sure, people are ****ed about blasters. people are ****ed about amarr. people are ****ed about projectiles. people are ****ed about missiles. people are always ****ed, you can't make all the people happy all the time. does this mean I'm a blind ccp fanboy? well, not a blind one at least. Their 1000 cuts project (i think that's what it's called?) is dealing with ALOT of stuff and I'm really happy about it. and for your last sentences... to my knowledge, most games DO charge for expansions. I listed a few examples, maybe now (in the interest of good debate) you could too?
EVERY SINGLE PIECE is a player community item, the thousand papercuts thread, the more players, everything.
The community is about to **** of eternally, so if nothing else, all your positve things are going away. Try to at least retain a mediocre level of research and logic on your arguments, fanboi.
