Poasting in the most epic thread evar! Kristoffer the douche lead game designer will be synonomous to Julio Torres. I'm starting to think they are best friends, and take bath's together, and exchange brilliant new ideas on how to **** off entire player bases. This just looks like another swg-nge to me. This might be bigger, but stay tuned for some popcorn popping goodness.

Sorry if I'm late on this but I woke up to an 80+ page thread and I'm still catching up.
I fail to see what logic we are missing?
More context might help but substitute information/direction/business case for logic and you are probably there. Running a gaming business with your customers on your shoulder must be the most annoying, satisfying, desirable thing one can imagine ;-)

We all know CCP and how they communicate, we don't need the answers, we already know what they're going to say. The following devblogs are upcoming:
1) Aurum prices are not final and will be lowered if necessary.
2) The internal memo is not to be taken seriously: its purpose is to incite discussion among employees and none of the disturbing plans inside are actually plans. No solid promises will be made, there will not be a "We will never sell non-vanity items for Dollars" statement. A typical CCP devblog that evades the issue at hand, but does calm most of the people down. Crisis averted.
Then there will be a series of non-issue blogs that smother the discussion about the first two dev blogs: 3) Incarna performance will be looked into. 4) Some devblog on the coming iterations on CQ features 5) "We do have plan for Spaceships-Online": some token plans for features are shown.
At the very best, and to be honost I think the chances are slim, Captain's Quarters will be made optional and the original Hangar view will be restored. This is the only real change you can hope for. __________________________________________ Signature starts here |

Pann,
I won't repeat much of what has already been said. If you take a look at the comments made by Seleene, Bartholomeus Crane, Jade Constantine, Chribba, and countless other experienced players; they are all against the direction CCP has taken over the past 14 or so days. If you take the time to read their blogs and forum posts, they have explained the thoughts of the community far more succinctly and eloquently than I could manage.
To me, it seems that CCP put headlines and subscription-grabbing features ahead of a quality product, when it announced that it would be releasing expansions every 6 months, or roughly in 2008. CCP ceased to have a 'quality product, when it's ready' policy, and instead seemed to adopt a 'more features, released often' one.
Each of the last six expansions has promised more, yet delivered less. This has culminated in CCP putting considerable manhours into the Incarna expansion, and delivering something that is little more than a doll's house. I am sure that CCP will announce this as an iterative feature, expanded upon over the next six months and the release of Incarna 2, 3, and 4; however, this has been the same hollow promise given to COSMOS (the original, not the new website), Faction warfare, Tech 3, Planetary Interaction; to name a few. I won't comment much on recent events, but things like the Fearless leak only add to the attitude that CCP are out-of-touch with its customers. Although the CSM are doing a great job, it seems that between NDAs and CCP's secrecy, they have been positioned in a way that they've been unable to help either side; again, only contibuting to the negative impression of CCP over the past few days.
Finally, this isn't a "wahhh, I'm cancelling my 12 accounts". But, CCP is on the precipice of losing my custom. I stopped actively playing Eve about 12 months ago, due to the path that CCP was taking, but I always kidded myself that somehow it would get better. Over those 12 months, I'd still tell non-Eve players how great the game was, and explain that my disillusionment was simple burnout. However, I can honestly say that this is no longer the case. As Eve stands today, I simply cannot recommend it to my peers. Almost every major feature is in an incomplete (sorry, iterative) state; CCP is seemingly adopting a business model which is more about getting customers and making money, than it is about buildiong a loyal customer base; and the $70 monocle thing is simply laughable. Why would I want to recommend this to a friend?
As an epilogue. My wife used to joke that Eve was the other woman in my life, I'd stay up to 1am some nights playing with her, and constantly talk about her when out with friends. Well, MrsFF will be happy tonight, as I'm no longer in love with Eve.

CCP Pann -
I haven't slogged through this epic threadnaught yet. But I did want to give you respect for stepping in to the same position that, in other circumstances, has lead to an immediate change of employment among some of your peers in Communications/Relations circles. Also props for giving a single, straight answer on the initial "is it real" issue.
I hope that this turns out better for you, and that CCP as a company treats you better than SOE treated Tiggs.
(Yes, that's a NGE reference. No, I don't think this is the "NGE" moment. Yes I think it's bad. No, I've not unsubbed. Yes, I retain some hope that after slogging through this 80+ page threadnaught, I'll find that things are getting better. No, I won't be surprised if I don't.)
Anyways, back to slogging through the threadnaught, and let's see if this breaks all Eve forum threadnaught records.

If you give no real advantage for $, noone will buy it. If you give too much advantage for $, old players will be upset.
If you decide to give advancement (e.g. faction standing) for money, you kill your own game. Now i apriciate my char, because i know how much effort it represents. If I could reach the same level in one week, i wouldn't bother.
So, I'm really interested if you will try to keep your long term clients, or try to recruit new players, who will be less loyal.

Yeah that's right CCP, the Customers are angry so wheel out the PR.
It's corporate crap like this that is angering people, don't you get it? Sure, people are fearful of change and the way things look to be going, but the reason you're getting threadnaughts and people threatening to unsub and massive Twitter rants is because of THE WAY THE MESSAGE HAS BEEN DELIVERED AND THE (LACK OF) RESPONSE to the community's reaction.
Get some of the devs front and centre, tell the PR to STFU and ENGAGE with your community. "Nothing is so easy as to deceive one's self; for what we wish, we readily believe." á - Demosthenes |

CCP, you have changed the vision for EVE you shared with so many players. You lost your uniqueness. You do realize that right now you are just like another MMOrpgs with MT madness, hence you just created very fierce competition to your hobby product.
PS. Throughout 1.5 year of playing I have had very tempting alternative hobbies I could pursuit. Thank you for your internal letter that showed your real direction; it helped me to get back to other hobbies I neglected. -3 accounts

Originally by: "Seleene" This thread that 'Pann' started... I can understand why it was done, but she's the wrong person for this particular damage control job. I may be a year removed but I still know how CCP as a corporate culture functions and that there is no such divide as she is trying to suggest from company intentions and even policies. I've got half a dozen old Fearless newsletters that read just like this new one and I've seen first hand what happens when the forums catch fire.

I never got to experience any MMO company self destructions before
Now I am right in it :)
It's awesome fun to see a company destroy itself, really it is,
The fun part is, the people running the company just cannot see it.
The next thing on my list of TODO's is to watch a real live train wreck to compare it.
Checkout the "Seconds from Disaster" series. Has many examples of fail-cascades like CCP.

Sadly, this is probably the truth. For me however, it won't be good enough. Like i stated back on page 1, i don't trust ANYONE with the CCP tag as far as i can throw them. so keep your words, they mean nothing to me other than an explanation. For resolving the problem, speak through your actions.
CCP, we understand you are a business, we understand your probably stretched a little thin at the moment. That being said, don't insult us by continuing the exact actions that brought you to this point. if your pulling DC like this, im willing to bet you've noticed alot more sub cancellations than you expected. don't make it worse. Ill try to be short as the text walls here are insane.
CCP have shown they are interested in money more than in the respect and opinions of their paying customers. As such we as a community have an opportunity to get a message to them very clearly.
To all the people saying they are un-subbing their accounts. Go and un-sub them. We will be sending them one of two messages today. The first, if we SAY we are un-subbing but donÆt, will be that we donÆt actually care and they can do or say whatever they like and we will continue to pay. The second, if we actually go and un-sub, will tell them in no uncertain terms that this is NOT ok and we arenÆt push-over n00bs to be trifled with.
Again, go and un-sub, when the CEO comes into work to find even 10% of accounts have been un-subbed they WILL reply and they WILL consider the repercussions of making changes like this.

Microtransactions is about items created from thin air.
Today you have to play your way up to gain standings, you have to plan ahead to remap in a proper way, someone has to mine and build a ship before it is on the market. MT would magically give you standings, remaps, ammo or ships from thin air. No game-play needed, prices fixed by the shop. What is the point of having a player-driven economy if the shop can make stuff magically?
Today you can pay someone to make a ship for you. Good, it means someone, probably a bunch of people, are mining, ratting, building for you. Tomorrow you will go to the shop, and have CCP create the ship for you.
Yes, it is no different for you. But it is no longer the self contained Eve many of us want to play. What is the point of mining, crafting, inventing, hauling, trading? All those become meaningless. For some this is not an issue. For me it is an issue big enough to make me stop playing.
We all play the games we want to play.
I like the Eve that was, I don't like the Eve that is coming. Time to find a new sandbox indy game that is still driven by people that really care about their game and their players. My faith in CCP will return SoonÖ |
