Lately, we can't read a single thread without someone screaming for CCP to make Captains Quarters optional. So for those of you who haven't figured out how to disable it, these instructions are for you.
1. Press Escape. 2. Click Display & Graphics 3. On the right side of the menu, locate "Load Station Environment". 4. Uncheck "Load Station Environment"
You can do this at the character selection page, right after you enter your username and password. You can also do this in space. However, if you are already in your Captains Quarters, it will not take effect until you undock and redock.
Enjoy!
P.S. For those who cannot login due to older video cards, this may not help you. The Incarna expansion updated graphics outside the Captain Quarters (e.g. animated turrets).

If you are in CQ when you turn it off, open map and close it to get the door without undocking.

This shouldn't even have been necessary, because it should be optional from the beginning. Removing the station environment to force a beta test on the player base is wrong. Hell, I would have been *far* more likely to try it, if it had been optional.
As it is, I disabled it ASAP.

Yeah, thanks for the obvious. The problem is, supposedly, it's not going to be optional at some future time.

You can also unsub and send a message to CCP to hurry up with the re-addition of ship spinning.

I use this on my laptop which, while it CAN run CQ, really doesn't look pretty while doing so. So, fair enough if you're turning CQ off because of hardware troubles.
tbh, any other reason is "HTFU you ungrateful brats!" territory. -

I did this on my laptop for similar reasons, then realised there was no reason to have it on on my desktop, so turned it off there too.
CCP forcing us to use it is not the answer, make it worth using (without taking away prior functionality like open cargo / ship activation) or don't bother.
There is no reason to have it on now.

I turn CQ off because I don't want to waste power which I'm paying for, on something useless. CQ is not even a meaningful part of the game and serves no purpose so far.
Did anyone try to remove/modify some files so not only CQ won't load, even the door does'nt appear?
That would be awesome.

Ahh, so the removal of functionality and no real option is a good thing? You don't happen to work for CCP do you?

Agreed. And while we're at it, CCP should also discontinue Eve Online because, other than entertaining, serves no purpose and is useless. There really is no meaning to playing this game and is just a waste of time.

There's gotta be a hack for it somewhere, to put back ship spinning. Overwrite something here..inject something over there...it will get done eventually.

Trying to get something done, at least on texture/model level.
In no way should one be forced to use the incarna feature.

Edited by: Barbelo Valentinian on 23/07/2011 21:11:36 When people say "we want Captain's Quarters optional", what they mean is that it should, from the beginning, have been an option beside the "undock" button in Station view.
But oh no, CCP decided to force onto us what could have been something interesting and more lore-appropriate, that people could have discovered and enjoyed for themselves at their leisure (and as it got better - i.e. multiplayer) - presumably as a result of some sort of bizarre executive decision to force NeX into our faces.
Had they made CQ optional, as was promised, recommended by the CSM, etc., etc., I'd wager that the shenanigans of recent weeks would simply not have happened. It was this real inconvenience (plus "door" insult) on top of the suspicions from the Newsletter, etc., that put a lot of players in a bad mood, predisposing them to not look too kindly on CCP.
Stupid, stupid, stupid.
As for the workaround, the "door" view is of course a net loss in functionality (less drag and droppability), as well as being boring as hell visually, and a sly insult to boot. *****

Hmm, I dont see the issue with the static screenshot. Got bored with CQ and turned it off by now, but cant say I miss the old hangar view.
Was just a waste of resources that didnt serve any purpose other than eye-candy, I for one am glad for every bit of gfx I can turn off in this game.

No hack needed.

Not sure how to permanently disable Incarna (let me know when you figure that out) but I do know (based on observation) how to troll forums:
Repeat misleading CCP talking points (like that Incarna is optional when they've said repeatedly that it will only be optional temporarily (and that folks like Teadaze quit because it would NOT be optional.))
Post on a cyno alt with virtually no forum history.
???

The "misleading" talking point is from before that... Like 2009 or '10 - that "ambulation" wouldn't be forced - leading up to all the **** when it was determined that it wouldn't be optional... this year.
So, yes, CCP *did* in fact say, that WiS/Ambulation/Incarn would, in fact, have been optional, and they did, in fact, change that. That was the problem. Wormholes: The *NEW* end game of Eve - Online: No Local. No Lag. No Blues (No Intell Channesl). No Blobs. |
