The changes in the background are in a 80%+ ratio in the whole Incarna patch itself. Players can see 3-4 things from the wole:
CQ, turrets(if in combat + close camera), Maller class (if amarr), agent finder, Aurum
CQ is flawed, Maller class isn't worth mentioning (since its amarr only and 1 hull), Aurum is seriously flawed Agent finder is ok, turrets are ok.
Conclusion: what the player sees as positive change is only a few things. Also the negative changes overshadow these. You can't say, that everythings okay...

Your majority ignore their greed-is-good plans.

There is one issue however that will change my mind on the next patch if CCP do release ships, items, modules etc on to the MT.
That's the issue who has unified all the ex-fanboys and bitter vets those last days.

Originally by: Alexis Sachs I've come to reconsider my words... I think it's more likely that the majority is apathetic as compared to quite happy.
They're neither. They are simply ignorant that any of this is going on.
I tested that last night on an alt in a newbie corp. Nobody knew what the hell I was on about. Linked it in chat and very soon it wasn't exactly complimentary. Now some of those are probably new players, not most though.
Tested it again with your default corp kickout npc corp - some Caldari one. They were even more vehemently against it. I went afk for a couple of hours and they were still going on about it when I came back.
Some people in both channels said they didn't see any problem but when people pasted in some of the choicer quotes, they went to actually LOOK at the pdf. Not so happy then.
Not exactly representative but try it out yourselves....

I remember similar "outrage" over the particular shade of blue used for new gallente ship models.
Vast majority of people just play the game, not this metagame. there are regularly 41k people on Tranquillity, how many here, a few hundred?

I have no idea, honestly, what the majority of EVE players is thinking about Incarna.
But I agree with the thread opener that in my corp most people are content with this expansion, or indifferent like they were with regards to the previous expansions since Apocrypha.
I think it would be a bad decision by CCP to sell items for cash, though. It would ruin my game experience. But as long as you can buy everything in EVE online with the ingame currency, that's fine with me.
Let's face it: for years already you can "buy" victory in PvP battles. Faction ships, officer items - everything has a price tag in EVE, and with PLEX you can gain as much ISK as you like or can afford. And it's okay, the game is fine. And it will be fine as long as there aren't exclusive items that are only available for real life CASH. (And of course: balancing issues, there shouldn't be a constant and dramatic "inflation of power".)
With regards to people complaining over hardware issues: you really should consider upgrading your PCs. My PC is two years old at least, and I have no problems playing EVE with captain's quarters with reduced graphics settings. What do you expect? It's absolutely normal and good that graphics are improving. Otherwise we all should still be playing ELITE.
Everything else is finetuning and bug fixing.

If the majority of EVE is happy with this big steaming pile of fail, how come then there has NEVER been this much rage and anti-CCP sentiments on the forum in the 8-year history of EVE.

Got to agree, theres not as much RAGE as the forums make it appear because the forums are technically pre-empting the bigger problem
NEX shop getting non vanity items
and
NEX shop getting ships etc, that are purchased without the trade in of a player built ship (eliminating need for manufacturers)
and of course
The fact taht docking really should have been ship spinning with the option to exit your ship into CQ as it was promised....

How about a compromise then... Ignorant AND apathetic?
I love how since some folks in fact do care, we become the vocal whining minority while the brave happy majority soldier on...
Incarna has issues. The magnitude of these issues can be seen by CCP's response to this. They've screwed up, have seen the degree of this screwup, and have YET to formulate what their response is going to be.
Well, if we the minority have done this (and again, remember it's just really only 4 of us) one day you happy majority folk (not talking about you Othran, I mean the OP and that crowd of course) might just thank us.

Originally by: Spookyjay I have been asking many who do not post. Where lots have not gone to the dramatic i quit. Several have not renewed sub's on alt's like myself. We will see how it goes but for the mean time i am running 1account and just doing some RVB. But more prominent is the fact most people I ask have simply turned off the CQ..
I think the silent majority expected incarna to be a button in the hanger view. I also think the silent majority have turned off CQ and simply have no interest in arum items atm. But are watching to see if CCP break the game with ships/mods that have a in game advantage. OR see how over the top prices for ship skins will be.
I think in truth the Forums represent the few voicing what would be the majority opinion if CCP carry on getting this wrong and do not fix what has been done.
I - personally - like your point of view. And like you, I haven't met any who ragequitted before they did so :) On the other point, only one person I talked to ingame was happy with what incarna braught to us. I for an instant am very unhappy. Likewise with one of my alt-accounts. A big hands up for a button in the hangar view. Anyway. All your points are right.

Thats why we are all angry.
If the prices remain the same I wouldnt expect it to have much effect on anything..
On a related note, I did ragequit one of my alt accounts because of anomaly nerf, but I guess I have to have a highsec mining alt to have some semblance of income..
Technically Im not happy with the patch, but I can tolerate it if theres more walking-in-stations type of stuff coming. One thing that I am extremely unhappy about is the noble exchange, which is an utter waste of resources if the prices remain.

I enjoy Incarna. It is amazing. Anyone who disagrees can now suck my now gloriously rendered balls.
Despite all the threats of un-subscribing etc, the amount online hasn't budged.
The amount of subscriptions lost is only known by CCP.

Well, no, at peak times on weekends for particular timezones maybe 40k, but it used to be we could run more than one client, so alot of those were the same person running multiple accounts, before Incarna I almost always ran 2 accounts at the same time, nearly everybody I know in game runs multiples of 2 or more. Now of course that isn't possible with the reduced performance of the client.
that aside I'm still quite amazed at your inability to accept that people who have a lot invested in this game might be upset by a company's lies, betrayal, disrespect & greed.
We all have a right to be here as paying customers & we have a right to our opinions as people, if it upsets you that people might feel differently to you about things I suggest you're playing the wrong game anyway, EvE has always been about the Community, & diversity is it's very nature.
This makes the outcry even more incredible, you know CCP is screwing up when you get this level of sustained outpouring of emotion here.
& yes I have been on the forums like it's my job for 2 days & probably will be here until I get banned ( probably soon ) or my sub runs out. You don't like it - screw you noob!

I think 'quite happy' is stretching it a wee bit.
The majority of people I know lingered in CQ for 5 or 10 minutes, lol'ed about the noise the pc started making as the gfx cards went to egg cooking temps and then turned it off.
I would say this iteration has been the most 'meh' we've had so far, coupled with some lack of communication (scanning forumla anyone?), fairly major bugs (that are being addressed quickly to be fair) and a serious lack of involvement with the CSM.
The storm is actually over the quite obvious divergent views that CCP and the player base have, which many have thought might be the case over the last couple of years, but which is undeniable now the newsletter leaked.
Frankly, I shudder to think how long CCP could have gone on spinning good intentions to us gullible fools if someone hadn't let the cat out of the bag. |

Originally by: Kira Phyrexia Edited by: Kira Phyrexia on 24/06/2011 11:17:24 Incarna even though it may be lacking content is still a good release. From what i have read most of the man hours in the development of Incarna were put into re-writing the coding for many aspects of the game. The players will not even see these changes. This initial patch of Incarna has sown the seeds of future development and has allowed for the cross platform cross gaming technology to get rolling. This (if they can actually pull it off) will be an amazing feat of game technology and CCP will change the future of gaming.
From talking to my corp mates and my contacts there are few who dislike the new patch, yes it has some issues and the internal memo was appalling along with the way the people who have had problems have been mistreated. However the majority I have spoken too are really enjoying it. These people have no problems with the Incarna patch and have no wish to look at the forums or even post, hence we get the pitch fork madness on the forums that has occurred.
There is one issue however that will change my mind on the next patch if CCP do release ships, items, modules etc on to the MT. The clothing I have no problem with, its just clothing they do not give an advantage. If people with that much expendable income wish to buy one, then go for it, its your money. I don't get jealous of people in real life driving around in fancy cars because they earned them and neither should anyone else. The problem lies in that CCP plan to add in game items into this MT stuff. I strongly agree that this is a BAD idea and should not be implemented.
Overall I have no problem with the release as is and am quite happy with it. Looking forward to the content that will come out in the next few months because of this patch as long as CCP listen to its clients, and support those in need. (seriously I had much more faith in your customer support even though at this time I personally don't need it but others do.)

I think your use of "The Majority are Happy" is much like what the "Moral Majority" tried to do (except they are neither Moral or a Majority). Seems to fit here.
Also I'd like to pint out that in my experience, the ONLY time CCP tries to do major damage control is when accounts are being shed in the tens of thousands. Wanna guess what has been happening since all this started? Yup.. CCP is trying desperately to do damage control (probably because more than just a few tens of thousands of accounts got closed down), even going so far as to throw out a sacrificial lamb to the gathering masses looking for someone to lynch.
