Yea. Don't mess with the internet tough guy.
People in Syria are protesting against an oppressive government that kills real live people that have no way out of the country. People in EVE are protesting against a company that released an update they didn't like and that make a game with a subscription they can cancel.
Why are you not out there rioting with them? Rather than playing internet space ships and complaining about people doing something in the game or forums?
why?
The answer is simple: they can't help them, but they can show displeasure with the company that gives them an escape from reality for a time screwing up that escape from being unable to change the world.

And that escape is spinning a ship in a hangar? Someone rich buying a monocle? Things that have no bearing on the game? Because nothing important has changed.
To the people that find that more important than the game itself, perhaps they need to wake up anyways, because that's pretty sad.

Maybe you should find out what the problems are.
If you don't know, don't speak and prove yourself a fool.

I hate it when people do this. I am sure 99% of the people who play EVE are able to put things into context, but they/we (I include myself in this) are voicing their concerns about the game that they love, just like people who support a football team when they are not happy with a manager or player etc..
The context where the protest matters is in EVE. Where is the harm in that?
Acting the fool is acting the fool, context is irrelevant. Reflects poorly on the human race. Then again, EVE did attract plenty of people from SA
Yeah, silent obedience reminiscent of cattle is a much better reflection of the human race. Damn all those revolutionaries and forward thinkers, they only set our race back with their novel ideas such as equality, liberty and civil rights.

There appear to be two camps amongst the playerbase:
People raging about the greed is good memo
And
People wondering what the fuss is about, who haven't been made aware of the memo. ---- Will 2011-06-24 go down as the day CCP stood still, or the day the dream died? |

And this is the appropriate forum to discuss ones opinion about the direction the game is taken. Which is what is happening here.

Its about communication between the customer base and the vendor. For months the vendor told us that the new expansion is going to have micro transactions, but when a novelty item is the price of four months of play time that is not a micro transaction at all. The second issue is their internal memo which describes a bleak future for the game, with players buying actual in-game advantages. That is the problem, the fact that customers and the vendor have two different road maps for the game and that customers definition of certain words is different from that of the vendor. Thus the protests, its a power struggle with the customers trying to gain an edge in the relationship, all the customers want is content that adds to the game without paying additional fees. The vendors understandably want to increase the revenue, however, they now need to take a look at their road map again and figure out what when wrong (cough, MICRO transactions, GREED when charging 15$ a month is not good) and figure out a new balance point between vanity item stores and in-game content.
In the end there are two ways the customer can impact the vendor, mass protest or vote with their buck. The first happens before the second.

I think the same happened over at CCP's partner, SOE. They let hubris and arrogance destroy their game, let's see if CCP repeats history. The slow response does not look promising.
I dunno about hubris and arrogance. SWG was crappy already. It was just finishing off an already dying creature. It goes without mentioning that the changes made by NGE were gameplay related, and the changes made in Incarna are not.
You have got to be kidding me.
Hey, genius, that hanger I use to park my ship is gone and replaced with a very bloated avatar system that has LESS functionality. Yeah, that's not game changing.
That's now, now get off your butt and read the now confirmed as official memo and if some have their way we could end up with game changing MT.
Not going to debate the history of the NGE, everyones got a different perspective.

There really isn't any reason to compare the two other than 'riots'.
One changed the landscape people walked on, NGE.. one gave the playerbase an additional landscape to walk on that didn't change the original, Incarna. Completely different.
And ship spinning removal is brilliant.. from the stand point that instead of ship spinning, people undock to actually fly their spaceships, which hasn't changed.. except for the eye candy improvements made on turrets.
Ironically enough.. simply look at the difference as people go out and shoot things in mass numbers to 'riot'. The strategy is working!
Instead of being whiney pussies.. EVE players are actually being EVE Pilots again. Maybe they'll remember what the game actually is.. and either leave for that reason, or stay cause they enjoy it.
Your governments **** on all your faces all the time.. yet the disgust for a rl company trying to make more money is some how more of an outrage to most of you folk. That's perhaps the most pathetic aspect out of all of this.
So many of you have no touch on reality and really need to get a grip. Remember.. you legally own NOTHING in any MMO, EVE included. And once you hand over your sub.. you have zero right to whats done with it and where it goes after it has left your hands. You entitled socialist nuts can believe otherwise if you want.. but seriously.. get an f'in grip on Life.
Stone me for looking out the window.. I'll be laughing as you do. ---------------------------------------- Treat the EVE markets like you are its Pimp.. it is your 'willing' employee to fondle n use n abuse as you please. |

No, not the first - they've happened in many games :)
First one I saw was in UO - people piled on until the server crashed (I honestly can't remember what it was for, although I know that before my time in that game, there was a mass storming of Lord British's castle with characters equipped with torches and pitchforks to protest unpatched bugs).
The dynamic of this mob and the way the mood is hardening reminds me most of the backlash to RealID in WoW that resulted in a major reversal.

Thanks for the reply. I was unaware of similar scenarios in other MMOs. If all this benefits the player in the long run then I am all for it. But a bookmark has been made today. Call it the Incarna riots of 2011. ----- CCP exhibits an alcoholic personality...please read |

Honestly they should blow up the monuments, Bring in a GM controlled CONCORD Fleet and jam, warp scram, and web everyone and tell them to return to their homes or be eliminated. Then say sorry and tell everyone they wont do power item MT. Then we get a neat story element, it can be on E-TV. "Riots broke out in major trade hubs today after rumors stating that the new store front, 'The Noble Exchange' had plans to release previously outlawed modules to certain pilots. Although the rumors ended up as being false, the damage was still apparent, with billions of lost trade revenue due to traffic congestion and the loss of 2 historical monuments. Both monuments are planned to be reconstructed within the coming weeks."
See neat, too bad CCP dont care...
