The fact that the "big shots" are getting their peons to apologize to us is insulting for a start. The fact that they do not take our problems on board and listen to anyone of is is just crazy. CCP you are ****ed as a games company. I dunno what happened to you in the past while but you have changed as an entity and until you go back to how you were i will remain cancelled. I would urge everyone else to do the same. It is the only way to make them see sense as soon as their accountant comes to them and says.."****" they wont listen to us.

52 monocles simply = 52 targets, as far as I'm concerned.
This is what I'm visualising at the moment:
"Arty-Thrasher squad One, take gang-warp...now! Your primary upon landing is...(pilot who was stupid enough to flaunt this ****e)."

You just dont understand...
Initial launch is not about making money. It is about introducing new concept without too much game-breaking.
PLEX price has been relatively stable. Because The Monocle is so expensive that only few will buy it.
If CCP would've started with $5 items (or cheaper), everyone would've run to buy them, making PLEX price rise a lot, disrupting gameplay for those who want stable PLEX.
By starting with high priced items, and introducing cheaper items later, PLEX price will stay more stable.
Stop whining and wait to see what Nex and Incarna will evolve into. You dont need to buy these expensive items, and it you want to buy some cheaper vanity items, just wait until they are added to NeX as CCP has promised will happen (just see latest dev blog).

EXCEPT there is another thread on the eve forums here which is tallying a running list of people who are fed up and are unsubscribing to eve. here is a quote from that thread - "tally so far : 359 people cancelling or not renewing a total of 834 accounts."
so that's a loss of approximately $12,510 a MONTH in reoccurring losses. (834 X $15 monthly fee)
so far Incarna has resulted in a first month profit of -$9390 (-$12,510 + $3120)
sounds like someone at CCP needs to go back to school for some accounting lessons.
I'd guess the number to be much higher, simply because a lot of the irritated people don't read/post on the forums. Many just went "Eh, **** it." and cancelled. With all the negative publicity going on over this, I'm willing to bet that there won't be enough people coming in to replace the lost players.
Regardless, I think we're witnessing the beginning of the end of Eve here. It's not too late to turn it around, but they'd have to do some MAJOR backtracking, apologizing, and reforming of how CCP communicates with the players. I don't think CCP is willing to do this. They're not the company they were when I started playing Eve. They have investors, they have corporate partnerships, they have guys with titles like "economist" on their payroll, all of whom are dictating what the company does. They're saying "Well, if you do this, you can get more money out of the players."
And CCP's management bought into the hype that their investors, corporate partners, economists, and PR experts sold them.

Cute. I'm a dev alt. How about a player who can't understand where I was possibly insulted in a rather solid letter sent internally to bolster morale. The closest to an "insult" is the line about watching what players do, not what they say. But that's not an insult ... unless I'm a hypocrite and hate being called on the carpet for it ... maybe?

That doesn't insult players at all, in my opinion. Nice letter and I do support CCP as a player.
All this whining reminds me of what I read some time ago: When player leaves EVE to join WoW, average IQ of both games will increase. So go back to WoW you whiners, making EVE better place for us who stay.

We live in interesting times; in fact CCP is the kind of company that if things get repetitive we instinctively crank it up a notch. That, we certainly have done this week. First of we have Incarna, an amazing technological and artistic achievement. A vision from years ago realized to a point that no one could have imaged but a few months ago. It rolls out without a hitch, is in some cases faster than what we had before, this is the pinnacle of professional achievement. For all the noise in the channel we should all stand proud, years from now this is what people will remember.
But we have done more, not only have we redefined the production quality one can apply to virtual worlds with the beautiful Incarna but we have also defined what it really means to make virtual reality more meaningful than real life when it comes to launching our new virtual goods currency, Aurum.
Naturally, we have caught the attention of the world. Only a few weeks ago we revealed more information about DUST 514 and now we have done it again by committing to our core purpose as a company by redefining assumptions. After 40 hours we have already sold 52 monocles, generating more revenue than any of the other items in the store.
This we have done after months of research by a group of highly competent professionals, soliciting input and perspective from thought leaders and experts in and around our industry. We have communicated our intention here internally in very wide circles through the Virtual Economy Summit presentation at the GSM, our Fearless newsletter, sprint reviews, email lists and multiple other channels. This should not come as a surprise to anyone.
Currently we are seeing _very predictable feedback_ on what we are doing. Having the perspective of having done this for a decade, I can tell you that this is one of the moments where we look at what our players do and less of what they say. Innovation takes time to set in and the predictable reaction is always to resist change.
We went out with a decisive strategy on pricing and we will stay the course and not flip flop around or knee jerk react to the predictable. That is not saying nothing will change, on the contrary, in fact we know that success in this space is through learning and adapting to _what is actually happening_ and new knowledge gained in addition to what we knew before and expected.
All that said, I couldnGÇÖt be prouder of what we have accomplished as a company, changing the world is hard and we are doing it as so many times before! Stay the course, we have done this many times before.

CCP are just trying to replicate Apple's business model in their in-game store. There will always be people willing to pay for shiny over-priced crap, and there will always be even more people who will feel they have to "keep up with the Jones'" and thus will buy shiny overpriced crap to avoid feeling inferior.
Perhaps this is the key demographic after all. People whose alternate life in a virtual world is so important to them that they sacrifice a great deal of their time existing here instead of in the real world. Maybe this is exactly the kind of person who is willing to pay $70 for a monocle just because he can't bear the fact that it's a symbol of excessive wealth and decadence and someone else has one instead of him.
As for CCP - I won't ragequit just yet. No one is forcing me to buy the damned things, and if I wanted to, I could buy them with ISK instead of cash. The argument about rich people getting an unfair advantage in this game this way if CCP moves to things other than vanity items is BS. Rich people have ALWAYS had the advantage, whether it's buying toons, or buying titans or ISK on e-bay. Nothing has really changed. Except the stupid monocle.

LMAO. Yes, what we do... You mean lock down trade hubs in protest, and cancel our accounts? Bravo, you sure showed us. We're not ****ing children. We built your game every bit as much as you did. EVE is only special because of the unique community that formed within and around it. You'll remember that in the coming months.
I have to say, every single time I hear something from CCP, I lose a little bit more faith in the human race. Amazing, on some level.

Well, historically (in EVE) hes right. Mass rageposting on the forum seldom means more then a few lost account, while the features beeing raged abouth usually bring in more customers.
Unfortuanly for you CCP, introducing MT for gamechanging stuff also has a history OUTSIDE EVE. I higly suggest you read up on some of it.
(and MT is NOT a mining fix, no, it just aint, fix mining instead of introducing minerals for rl cash)

I've done the math - they don't. Not by a long shot.
Based on the cancellation thread, about 850 accounts have been shut down. Assuming that they go dark by August, CCP will have sacrificed $63750 from August to December in exchange for $3640 in monocles in July.
And it would be a safe assumption that for every player who makes a public statement about unsubbing, there will be many more who do so quietly.

Ok - 52 monocles sold so far = big success for the program, right? Perhaps, unless you take into account the number of active subscriptions that have been canceled.
I don't mind huge prices for a few vanity items, however it shows extremely poor planning and stupidity to launch Incarna with so many New Player things and not have affordable items in the store. The pants aren't anything special - they're pants. Why would anyone purchase any clothing item at all with these prices?? It just smacks of stupidity to me. Blind arrogant stupidity.

Edited by: Istyn on 25/06/2011 11:17:44 So, $4,000 worth of monocles. Fairly sure you are already losing that from all the people unsubscribing, not to mention when TF2 went with microtransactions (which in fact damaged the game), they earnt hundreds of thousands overnight, possibly as they do not subscribe to the derp-pricing philosophy.

Further proof for the developers, your players care more about the game you helped create than your management. Not only are they crapping on your fans, they are crapping on you and derping up your creation.
