The best way to describe this game to people looking to play it is:-
Take all the basic mechanics of why EVE is good and then improve upon them here and there, and then put them into a game which isn't quiet as polished as EVE and add mechs.
Put simply, all the basic mechanics of eve (skill point system, the overview, control system etc etc) are all basically the same as EVE Online, with vastly improved systems.
For example, the Skillpoint system is like EVE. Except you don't have to train a specific skill. It goes into a pool. So there is none of this getting up and changing skills or stupid skill que. As long as you sub the same, you get SP.
You can use cover to avoid getting shot. So line of sight helps. Lots of little things.
THERE IS NO LOCAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE IS NO CLOAK. THERE ARE NO CAPITALS.
Just remember the game is VERY young and doesn't have a huge base of players yet, but it will come. So it will be rough around the ages and you will not completely like it. But it is good. Give it a bit of time.
ALSO the Trial Account they have is not super great, because it doesn't let you see PLAYER made market orders. So this is a bit limiting, but it's cheaper than EVE online so just sub for a month and see how it goes.
ANd also, in terms of weapon Balancing. Unlike EVE they figured out how to do it. You have 3 races instead of 4. Everyone's base race is minmatar, so all can use projectiles, then each race has lasers, hybrids or missiles. Shove that up your balance pipe CCP.

I just downloaded it and gave it a try, had a GM/Dev PM me within minutes, offering a welcome and any help I needed, nice personal touch.
looks interesting but after 6 years of Eve I found it hard to re learn the Ui, which is much more advanced and configurable than Eve's.

Yeah, DEVs and GMs hang out in helpchat, but are not terribly talkative. They do offer up tidbits of pretty much common knowledge, though, now and then.
Biggest beef, tho, has got to be getting from place to place. No autopilot (to speak of, because mechs get stuck on /everything/), and they're SLOW. :/
Other than that, it seems pretty cool. Needs a lot of growing, but has potential. It's look and function is so close to Eve it's as if CCP leased out the kernel...

I am taking a look at it over the weekend.
In the meantime can CCP think about cutting players off with their new shader requirements, thereby cutting into their own flesh, and then wanting to take it back in with vanity items. --

Don't fault CCP for this. This is a fact of the computer gaming world. New technology comes about, requirements increase. You can't avoid it. Especially with regards to shader 3, which was being supported by video cards being made as early as 04/05.

Look at this way. For years I have recommended EVE online to every gamer I have ever met. Even if I continue to play EVE, I will never ever say that people should play it ever again after the way the DEV's have acted.

Have you test the game? playing/paying a eve-clone with a fu*** slow mech, oudated graphic, PVP = joke and dont talk about PVE.
And yeah they should make an IQ test before let you sub to Eve, with the number of ******s we got online i doubt 10% of you will be allowed to sub

sorry to hear that. it works for me on win 7 as long as I run it in admin mode, maybe that will help, if not good luck to you where ever you wind up.
to the people joining this game, once you join you should also join the eve channel.

Originally by: robbyx The best thing about this game ...the developers....they seem genuinely interested in player feedback and are more than happy to help in anyway they can...they will even debate and discuss game issues on the forums.
The Perpetuum developers are incompetent fools, they knee jerk and flip flop around to virtually anything the players who are close to them say. A few months of social engineering and you can literally change the balance in that game at the drop of a hat. Hilmar has the balls to make changes and stick to them knowing what is best for the game, I respect him for that. I don't respect the Perpetuum developers at all. Hell, all you have to do us look up the whole insurance fraud debacle and the years worth of developer chat logs that a high profile player released not so long ago.

Oh, it is CCP's fault. They have become the henchmen of ATI and Nvidia. You do not have to do it, you know? EVE would have continued to run without Incarna.
I have just again lost a friend, who has been playing EVE on a laptop and now cannot login. And for what?
So we can have 3D avatars with 1b ISK monocles for which we need SM 3.0?
If you want to create and run an MMO then you have to support your community more than any other computer game maker, or you are not running an MMO but are trying to run a cash farm, farming computer game players.
I did not subscribe to be a cash cow. I do want to play with friends and to keep them as such for real. If CCP keeps pushing the hardware requirements for things like vanity items and micro transactions then this is what they do. It is what it is. To me does it appear like they are all drunk in Iceland. --

I'm very certain you think the latest changes by good CEO Hilmar are something you like very much as well? I actually don't mind the changes, but lying to and ignoring your community is a very grave misstep.
I will be trying out Perpetuum online. Even if I won't leave EVE, previously I wouldn't even consider playing a different game. "A fool flatters himself, a wise man flatters the fool." |
