They don't get less expenses though. And they are most likely already running short for both the Dust and WoD development. They most likely predicted an increase in EVE subs when they comitted to those projects a few years ago. Active EVE player numbers have not increased very much in that time frame.
And since many that leaves now, are older players with 2-16 accounts, the F2P/W2P kiddies you expect that MIGHT follow, will likely have 1 account each.
So guess who they will be footing that bill to? Yeees, to you that remain. This money MUST come in, they have no other choice but to increase the sub costs, P2W MT stuff and other ways.
People arent coming into EVE to play Space Barbie. That will grow old real fast. And Dust is an exclusive PS3 FPS. Those kids wouldn't have a PS3 if they had a decent PC, so they're not coming either. Besides, not the same game genre.

Pretty good idea if i don't say so myself.
So where are these new wave of players and why have we not seen them before now? Don't say CQ, because they will be bored with that within the first 5 minutes.
The better question is, why aren't the numbers showing that anyone has actually quit?
Oh...
You haven't.

Protesters only show CCP the line there as Hilmar asked for it.
This is a power struggle.

So I hear theres 2000-3000 players canceling, or not renewing their accounts.
I think that EVE can afford to lose 1% of it's player base considering Incarna, DUST and other features coming in the future will easily attract far more than that number.
lol @ protestors
1. Create new toon, post "I'm quitting!", biomass new toon. Trollage success. 2. unsubscribe, whine in forums for a week, run L4 missions to get plex, resubmit. Trollage success. 3. Unsub, post on "I'm quitting!" thread, restart account when you get bored with WoW again.
Epic fail. Leave, or don't. I said I was leaving a couple months ago, friend convinced me to change gameplay style, having fun again. Still here, hope everyone enjoyed the Mach and T2 ships I gave away.
Lesson: this is the intarwebs. People lie at the drop of a hat; 99.9% of the "I'm quitting!" posters are full of it. Want something to protest? How about all the existing bugs that aren't getting fixed, and the plethora of new bugs introduced in Incarna that nobody is talking about?

If you got some hope.. and 50% of the protesters have those I guess you wind down biz and prepare for hibernation in case CCP comes around. You might also note that some keep mains running for the time being.
Another quarter probably rather burn everything down instead of giving it to some idiots.
Can't vouch for the last quarter, best guess is they either donated it already to mates or trashed/biomassed.

Who will win? I think the outcome has already been decided. CCP is prepared to take their loss to go on with their plans. A significant number of (now) angry unsubbed players will swallow their pride and come back because other games bore them and they miss their friends. Most of them haven't even biomassed their characters and haven't given away their stuff. And you don't stay angry forever.
End of story. |

I'm waiting for proof that all the unsubs are really unsubbed, methinks its nerdrage and they are all talk. If you are going to ubsub, post the name of your account here. then, delete your account, then come back and say you did it. /coolstory
Even if those unsub numbers are correct, I'm sure all of them use a credit card or RM to pay each month. I'm quite certain not a single one of them uses isk to buy plex to extend their subscription. Also, I'm sure none of them got extensions for signing up friends and new accounts either. To assume that each fake unsub costs CCP $14.95/month merely demonstrates how much of the nerdrage kool-aid you have drank, and your unwillingness to think rationally for yourself.

It's all talk - If they really quit they would Biomass and STFU. They are just spamming jita, and the forums... hell it may even be agents from other games inciting the riots (conspiracy anyone?)

+1, and yes, can't wait for a moment when CCP will start banning those lemmings. Less idiots = better game. Or we can just wait for 5 more days. Gyaaah, I can't wait :3
So we are lemmings according to you and you're sheep, interesting there seems to be a similarity there.
A lot of those idiots as you call them are not idiots at all, they have a different view point. They care about the integrity of the Eve that was and now it looks to be destined to become something else.
If you have a problem with the ingame protest (Which I'm not part of) then take it up with CCP, because it's CCPs attitude to it's player base and their unwillingness to open up any meaningful dialogue that caused those ingame protests in the first place.

Get smart! Being unsubscribed does not mean you don't have game access whilst you have game time left on the account. Still got 3 weeks on mine.

Don't think anyone feels conquered, let down, lied to, betrayed maybe but conquered no.
Hope you enjoy the new Eve when it's gradually dumbed down and made more appealing to the younger players because that's the only way they likely to get an significant increase in the player base. Just think WoW kids in space.

i dont understand where this animosity is coming from. the aurum mt for eve(spaceships) as i understand it, is for the most part purely for vanity purposes. now lets go over the possibility if there is say something more, for example being able to purchase ships that are no longer widely used because they were handed out as prizes years ago. Im sorry i think its a damn tragedy that some of the coolest ship designs arent used because of the rarity. now i understand the concerns that is allowing people to purchase a win, I disagree wholeheartedly with that assumption. It's already been proven that one can have every single faction mod on a faction ship with an optimal fitting setup....and still lose said ship from being stupid, out maneuvered, out numbered, lag, etc, etc, the list goes on. so even if you could buy items that werent normally availible, most likely gameplay would change very little if at all, people would either be too scared to use them, or actually have the courage to use them, if for no other reason, then because through the micro transactions, they can get another one.
now if it goes this route i suggest it be done in the way that was mentioned for ishukone scorpion, a ship of hull of similar design along with the aurum, guardian vexor= x amount of aurum+ 1 ishtar (this is an example only) i doubt it will go this way, but i want to see more of the ships people just dont get to see anymore :/

Of course, Dust will launch buggy, like everything else CCP releases. It will flounder for a couple of months until the next CoD or whatever FPS flavour of the month, is released, and the user numbers drop like a stone.
They've already badly bungled the launch of Incarna. Time will tell if they can recover and do any better than break even on user numbers with this expansion. That's probably well shy of the predictions they gave their financial backers.
At some level Hilmar has the right idea by looking at the metrics rather than trusting forum hysteria for an objective viewpoint. But as has been mentioned, they've lost a lot of player confidence and trust. This may initially have only a subtle effect on the numbers. But by the time it is obvious in their metrics, it may already be too late.

A lot of young kids get fed up with this game because they find it too hard to understand, so to make it easier for them the game will most likely be made easier too.

Well I've seen this stuff happen before. People don't stay angry forever and most will either grumble a bit and play on or come back after a few months.
I don't think CCP is very much impressed, they are waiting on what the community actually does - with their wallet. All the protesters are still playing - thus paying. They take their time to let things cool down while working in Incarna 1.1.

It's not hard for a player to take a break for say.. six months. But it's really hard for CCP to survive a lot of players taking a break.
It's even harder now CCP's brilliant management decided to use most of our money to develop other games. They simply can't affort losing subs like this, not even if most of those eventually come back.
And if you think the unsubbers are not serious, go read them. I've read them all, and I'd be surprised if less then 90% is dead-serious about at least taking a break.

Some might come back, I won't if they carry on in the direct they're going, although I might not anyway since they've shown a total disregard for their customers, quite frankly CCP are a disgrace.
The issues for me is:
1) Items that give an ingame advantage. 2) Ships that don't require players to build them. 3) SP for cash/PLEX 4) Faction Rep for cash/PLEX
Those for are the game breakers of the old Eve.
All the others problems can be fixed in time.
And those 4 are why a lot are unsubscribing, they can't be fixed. Except to not include them in the first place. But CCPs attitude over this whole situation was lost them more players than they might have.
