Quote: If an individual at thirty years has not found some great principle, some great ideal that he will die for, he is already dead. If he is challenged to take a stand but he refuses because he is afraid-afraid that his home will be bombed, afraid that he may be shot, afraid that he may lose his job-he may live until it is eighty, but he is just as dead as thirty as he is at eighty and the cessation of breathing in the life is merely the belated announcement of an earlier death of the spirit. -MLK
Eve Online as we know it stands on a precipice. We know this. We have seen the previous tempests, some legitimate, some not so much. We know that this time, it is different. The fundamental principles of the game are being challenged.
The vast majority of us desperately love and adore the promise that EVE offers. An opportunity to do things we wouldn't dare to do in our ordinary lives. Forge alliances. Challenge the status quo. Upset the establishment.
Eve players have made history because of this. The legacy of eve online is not in terms of content expansions, but in terms of player actions that have been enabled because of them. Empires have been formed, destroyed, hijacked by strategy, subterfuge, and scandal. The ripples of these events have touched every corner of the online gaming community.
And now, this soul of Eve Online is in danger.
Already, from the horrific mismanagement on the part of CCP, and CCP alone, of this crisis, many of the best and brightest leaders of the Eve online community have left, or are planning to leave.
Already, thousands have publicly demonstrated that they have unsubscribed their accounts.
Many more thousands have likewise done so, but in silence.
Communities of friendship and comradeship built over years have been destroyed, or are in danger of being destroyed.
This situation, however, is not hopeless. Eve Online can be saved: but it can only be saved by the players.
I call upon each and every CEO, alliance Executor, director, diplomat, asteroid belt miner, Black Ops hotdropper, lowsec PVP'er, to join and unionize.
Every person who claims to love EVE, who claims to be a patriot for the online community we participate in, can agree to the following, simple requests:
We expect respectful communications from CCP.
We expect that these communications be truthful and honest, and that CCP properly coordinates with the CSM regarding non-public information sharing.
We expect timely and informative responses regarding game direction and vision, regarding expansions and allocations of development time.
We draw a thin red line: NO game-changing micro-transactions.
Evemail me in game for more details and if you wish to collaborate on the formation of the union.
Eve's best days are still ahead of it. However, it is up for us to make sure it lives to see them.
Eve players have made history before. And today, we shall make history again. The first unionized player base of any MMO in existence.
We care far too much for this game to settle for anything less.

Originally by: CCP Zinfandel OK, here's a little more information that I had not provided.
We aren't offering everything in the store on day one. We are rolling stuff in slowly. I had scheduled the Ishukone Watch Scorpion for late August. It will already be in the game and finished. It just won't be sold for months. And if it's a problem, we won't even start then.
Let's wait a few months and see if the right thing to do is to keep waiting or roll it out. The easiest way I can ask you guys is to ask the CSM. I will do that first and see what they say.
I have to go jump in some meetings and won't be able to follow this thread for probably the rest of the day.

So I'm not going to give it up without a fight.

Let them leave then. I really don't think it matters. Besides I think its all a bluff. They will be back when they realize that SWTOR, Rift, and WOW are lame in comparison.
I do not agree that the 'sky is falling'. It all sounds like alarmist conservative hardliners who fear any change in the status quo.

What exactly requires a fight? Is the fact that luxury items that are out of reach to most are available? Is that what all these protests boil down to? A public outcry because walmart is opening a store down the block from your house?
Its more like a Louis Vuitton shop, but you get the idea :)

The fundamental problem here is CCP breaking hard promises it made with its community, and its CSM.
The trust the playerbase has with CCP has been irrevocable damaged because of this.
The result is mass defections and public outrage on a scale never before seen in the past eight years.
Those that fail to recognize this are out of touch with reality and the heartbeat of the community.

No, nothing like this is planned, but that does not keep the idiots from posting another thread about their paranoia.

A quote from MLK is a tad EXTREME for the situation.
Bottom line is CCP is changing their game, and I don't want to play it anymore.

I hate to say this. If there was a point to doing this, I'd be up for it.
But, why should I fight for better conditions against the "big bad state" of CCP, when in fact they have no hold over me whatsoever, and I can simply move out? Do they honestly think that my addiction is SO BAD that I will quietly endure?
I am closing down operations and tidying my stuff ready for sale and in preparation to leaving. Not being able to get into Jita hasn't helped my progress I am quietly pondering how Mr CCP will decide to spin the "player revolt" demonstrations in Jita and elsewhere to his advantage tbh: expect some pandering response, and spin campaign that means they come up smelling of roses, then royally shaft the players anyway a few months down the line.
Quafe Zero will happen in the MT store, and doubtless much more.
CCP not having the common courtesy to let us know this earlier, so that the investment we make in time and money doesn't prove pointless, is my gripe with what has happened. I feel cheated on and lied to, and my intelligence insulted.
Some folks has been saying "why all the rage". Here's my reason: If I need to spend months of time and money on Pay2WaitÖ, skilling up for an end goal, have to grind for isks in the meantime to attain that goal, then it is a considerable investment I make into my hobby. I don't think it's asking much to have some reasonable expectation of whether the goal to which I strive is likely to be negated by some jerkoff kid that bough a zillion skill points with mom's CC by the time I reach my goal. For this reason, I think the whole of the MT stuff for skills will be a fatal blow to Eve, and that doesn't even factor in the economic issues. Subscription-service, skill-queueing as we have, (and will likely keep, even in WoD I read someplace) will not mix nicely with insta-gratification MT store skills and kit imo.
All I, and many others, have asked for has been an honest answer to this question "will vanity items be the limit that CCP will ever put in game?" My reason for asking should be obvious. I simply wished to know whether I should continue investing towards a goal, or not.
Now, after the many many lies over the last year or more, spin-doctoring, truth-evasion and information-hiding, I no longer care enough for any answer to make much difference, the time for honesty, the final showdown was during last week. Once I have my affairs in order, and have tidied up that last scrap of ammo from the hangar floor, I'll be off.
Eve may or may not be dying. I don't know, and I hope she does not in all honesty. But she is dead to me, and I don't think I can forgive CCP for that. For me, that's all that matters.

A union? How 1920's of you! Just the thing for harnessing all those free thinking and creative protestors- another top to bottom set of chuckleheads CCP won't be listening to. CSM, hmmm really effective. SO what are you going to do strike? You don't play but pay they don't care, you stop paying they make sure you stop playing.
A union is useless.

With a union, we can finally add some potency to the CSM. CCP developers will no longer be able to lie to them and the larger playerbase.
The time has come for a revolution in developer/player relations. Anything less will lead to the dissolution of the foundations of EVE online.

No.
The farthest they went was talking about a ship with the exact same stats as an existing ship, just with a different skin/design. And even there they seemed somewhat dubious whether they could implement it.
A "union" isnt too bad an idea, I just have no clue how it would relate to the CSM.
