With these extraordinarily insulting leaked items, the email and pdf, I feel that the death knell of eve has been sounded. I have unsubscribed, and I will not consider resubbing until the issues that have been brought forth on this thread are adequately addressed.
That being said, I was wondering what game people are considering leaving for?
I'm considering Rift until ToR hits. Any thoughts?

Darkfall looks ok, they make similar promises that got me started on Eve. Gonna check out the free trial methinks after the riots are done

I really want another sandbox but I don't like the look of Perpetuum. I'm gonna take a look at Mortal Online, maybe, or Infinity even though it isn't even anywhere near alpha

Star Wars The Old Republic looks like it should be good. Yes, it's basically WoW with lightsabres but it should keep me busy until another decent spaceships game comes out. ------------

I got tired of Rift very quickly. It's basically wow with different skill trees and more ways to make a character.
I wouldn't recommend it. -- Torn |

I begin playing Perpetuum yesterday. Here is what i can say about it :
+ gameplay architecture is really "eve-like" Mechs pvp/indus Mother****in MECHS !
- very young game (released 6 months ago), so not a lot of gamers poor pve atm (but new content will be added in the summer, as i heard) there is a lack of communication about this game
So i would say that this game is very promising and deserve a try.

If you want a sandbox you could try Ryzom.
Starter isle is just missions as it a training isle, but the mainland is the sandbox.
No spaceships to fly though.
Plus trial account can level to 125, top levels of the skill tree are 250
Support Windows, Linux and now also Mac I believe.

Very small with a very small playerbase. It was ok but eh. The traveling is tedious, especially without an AP like thing. The trial account restrictions are also absolutely ridiculous because the devs are overly paranoid about bots/RMT(It is ok to be slightly paranoid but they are more paranoid than Tony Montana in Scarface) Yeah I am a pirate. What are you gonna do about it? Killboard link is not allowed to be used in a signature.Applebabe

Who are these people? Leaving EVE for Perpetuum would be like moving from the suburbs to the ghetto. No thanks. I would rather spend my time offline than deal with that POS MMO.

Perpetuum or Vendetta Online. Perpetuum is Eve on land with Mechs instead of spaceships and Vendetta is Eve with somewhat "real" hands on piloting instead of point and click. Both are produced by indy developers and with any luck will go on for another four-five years before inevitable sellout.

Don't hate man. We're having a serious discussion of other game options if this farce continues.

Infinity has the potential to blow eve out of the water.
they just need more funding to get it done faster, which hopefully the current engine licencing will achieve.

Pretty much. I've tried Perpetuum which is basically EVE on the ground with robots. Heck, they use many of the same ingame memes as EVE does too. Can we say copycats? They took some of the same ingame guns from EVE and applied to Robots. For instance, the robots have autocannons and missiles. Both with short and long range variations. They also use 4 types of resistances. At least two of them are the same as Eve; Kinetic and Thermic. I forgot the other two
It's a game in its infancy and has years before it can really be a great sandbox. People will flock to it because of its similarity to EVE but after a couple weeks or months, you'll get tired very quickly.
Playing the game made me actually appreciate EVE's UI. Perpetuum's UI is clunky.
I'm waiting for Star Wars but that's really a PVE game with limited PVP.
TERA is still in development and is getting hype for it's use of a sandbox-like political system. But it looks to have potential.

Some mighty fine 'politics' on the left side of the page there. ---------------
