CCP, HereÆs my take:
Ok, so first up: I have cancelled my sub, although unfortunately for me, it had 5 months left to run, so effectively you have 5 months to win me back. IÆm not a new player û I started in early 2004, left for a few years and came back the end of last year.
So, Incarna:
Ignoring the CQ and Aurum thing for a moment, the patch did not actually make me want to unsub. IÆm not saying I liked it, bar the new turret effects, its utter rubbish. The new icons are pointless blobs that are difficult to distinguish from one another. Bar that, nothing was added to the game at all. So, disappointed, but not to the point I quit.
The Captain Quarters. Ok, so why and what is the point? Eve is a space game, played out in space, in spaceships. There is no need to walk in stations, or anything like that. It would be like a Racing game having the option to get out and walk around the pits. Pointless, I just wanna race! So, my captain quarters were just turned off fairly quickly after walking around and seeing that actually, there's very little to do and barely more functionality than before with it just slowing down the whole docking procedure - a pain in the arse!
Aurum. Makes business sense - get more money out of your subbers. Makes no game sense to me though. As mentioned above, this is a space game, played in space, in spaceships û people donÆt see me, I donÆt see them, so nobody bar me will see my incredibly expensive new trouser that unless IÆve bothered to look wonÆt even realise they are new and not just standard character trousers. So, one assumes that either walking in stations will eventually open up into meeting other players to see their incredibly expensive clothing and/or items that do affect game play / can be seen in space will be made available.
Now fair enough, there may be a class of player who likes the idea of walking in stations, and there maybe (evidentially very stupid and/or wealthy) players that likes the idea of buying things with real money. Neither are me, or judging by the forums, the majority of Eve.
From what I can see, the majority of Eve players want bugs fixed and more content û there is neither in Incarna. You, CCP, have not done a great job of handling the situation either, but the final tipping point for me was that blog. That just infuriated me, and most other Eve players rather than helped the situation, and that caused me to hit æCancel my SubscriptionÆ.
I mean, firstly, by what definition of æsmooth and successfulÆ do you have? If youÆre intention was to smoothly and successfully **** off your players, then job well done. Otherwise, that statement was just a tad insulting.
Secondly, you failed to answer any questions that the player base had been asking and were ****ed off about. Is was purely a response to a leaked document û that painted a very bad picture of your thinking and intentions. Thirdly, despite being the laughing stock of the Internet, you stood by the insane prices being charged for goods the majority of players do not want anyway.
To me, that just came across as being completely out of touch with the player base in Eve, treating them with contempt and pushing ahead with features based purely around profiting further from the player base and with nothing to do with enhancing or expanding game play or anything the players want or have been asking for.
The final thing that had me hit that Cancel button was that it seems almost certain that the Aurum thing will be pushed along further and eventually see items that do affect game play - that is wrong, and will alienate and disadvantage players who cannot afford them. The overall tone indicated this probably will be the case.
The route you are taking eve down now is not in line with the players that make this game what it is, and are taking a profit driven approach which risks ruining a game I thought was one of the best and unique available.
Sad, very sad. _______________________________________________ Top 10 things I hate in these forums. *snip* -Oi mod |
