So it didn't take long for them to go "YEA WE ARE NOT DEALING WITH THEM".
Yet, the big question they are dodging around. Yea, it's coming.

At this point they're going to have to respond quickly no matter how idiotic the rumor is. The players are all keyed-up and ready to start raging with the slightest provocation.
Not that it really did them any good...
There are plenty of threads saying "yeah, I don't believe them" or even taking the denial as some kind of proof that the rumor is actually true.

They can be hasty about that because such rummors affect Sony stock values. Adn SOny can get very upset about that. Its their responsability to be sure no such rummors are kept in THEIR forums.

BECAUSE IT'S A CRIME!!
Sections 9 and 10(b) and Rule 10b-5 of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934 and Section 17(a) of the Securities Act of 1933 prohibit market manipulation and false statements in connection with the purchase or sale of a security.

Edited by: Tony 2fingers on 26/06/2011 20:37:25 No company being purchased ever comes out and says , yes , we are being sold. There are various reasons for this, but usually goes towards stock or share prices before a sale.
That being said, another game company, Cryptic, recently went through this, and at first they claimed the exact same thing" no, no sale of assets", and within a month, it was publicly released they were being sold. This also happened just as a Life time subscription sale was going on, so they definitely didn't want to disrupt their planned sale.
Bottom line, when it comes to a company being sold off, trust no ones word. The only thing we can do is wait and see, but SOE announcement of "we have big plans for Soapbox games" doesn't bode well.

My guess is pay-to-win is on the cards but they don't want to admit it until they revisit the idea in one of their meetings. Of course if they change their minds they will deny it was ever an option. Trouble is - Silence is Golden(Ammo)

It's not much of a clarification. Here's an update from that same news site:

Twitter is a new and wonderful invention . CCP_Fallout has denied that SOE is involved with a merge or take over of CCP: ôCCP_Fallout CCP @RyunosukeKnT to be best of my knowledge, no, but i am not at all qualified to adequately answer this question tbhö Followed up with: ôCCP_Fallout
i can confirm that SOE has not purchased, nor are we discussing a buyout, of CCP. #eveonline #tweetfleetô CCP has also publicly announced on their forums that they are not being bought.
However a few more links to SOE have emerged. These are the facts we have so far:
- In an interview by Massively with John Smedley, President of Sony Online Entertainment they discuss the recent closure of Star Wars Galaxies. In one of the interview questions on the future of sandbox games he gives a very cryptic answer that further strenghtens our belief that CCP is currently in discussions with SOE .
ôSo you donÆt think that sandboxes (and sandbox systems) are dead for SOE? Will you ever make a new sandbox with SWGÆs pioneering features?
The answer isà stay tuned on the subject of sandboxes. WeÆre super excited about the future of sandbox gaming. Let me just leave it at that!ö
- This new information coincides with recent information from SOE developers of the next Planetside game, titled ôNextö, which is being delayed. The reason given for the delay: there will be a new engine going into it. An announcement will be held later at SOE Fan Faire in Vegas July 7 û 9.
- Coincidentally, CCP has promised a big announcement during EVE Meet in Vegas on July 16.
-Both the CCP payment portal and SOE stationcash portal were updated on June 24th. The payment portals now look more similar with black top bars (although still at different heights). Our sources with inside information on CCP claim more similarites are about to emerge in the next couple of months.
- Coincidentally, these payment portals changes happened on the exact date when SOE announced the closure of Star Wars Galaxies.
These are the facts we know so far. You be the judge. You make your own conclusions.

I wasnt, SOE, aka Sony Online Entertainment, the BANE of everything that it touches as it turns it into a cash cow machine of sadness, is and will always be known well in several communities of online gaming, specially SWG and the dreaded NGE of yore.
If this happens to be true, it would explain the direction CCP is taking, which would clarify the horizon even more.
If there's a Company out there that deserves being subject to all kind of <expletive> it's SOE, specially the utter abortion of nature that is Smedley.
Just google NGE or try to google a bit around Smedley. People like him are the iconic representation of GREED IS GOOD and the slimy face of dirty business in the games industry. Not even EA would dare mix with him, and that's saying a LOT.
