Insurance would make no difference. Only your ship is insured, not its fittings, and you don't need to insure a rookie ship as they are replaced free anyway. |

Bit longer explanation:
When you loose your ship...
Your ship is destroyed, it appears as a wreck which can be salvaged for salvage components (chance based)
Any rigs you had on that ship are destroyed.
Any modules you had fitted or any item you had in the cargobay has a 50% chance to drop as loot and a 50% chance to be destroyed in the explosion.
This 50/50 chance is calculated for each stack of item seperately. So if you stack 100 tritanium, all 100 will either drop or be destroyed. If you make 100 stacks of one tritanium then for each single tritanium there is that 50% change it drops.
Same with the fitted modules. Each module has that 50/50 chance and with guns, if the gun is destroyed, so is the ammo in it. If it's dropped, so will the ammo.
The loot fairy can be very nice, and all your fitted/carried items can drop as loot She can also be a cruel ***** and all stuff can be destroyed. Inject your skillbook before you leave the station. Neo didnGÇÖt learn Kung-Fu by having it sit in his usb drive.-á If it moves, shoot it. If it doesn't move, poke it with your gun and then shoot it. If you're used to other MMOs where your stuff is preserved when you die, or has to be "repaired", it will take a bit getting used to Eve. The fact that killing someone both directly impacts their personal wealth and has a chance to boost your personal wealth is a cornerstone to Eve PvP.
