After page 1 I got bored reading this thread. Just wanted to make sure that you ARE aware, you're either an idiot, or a troll. In chrome (12.0.742.100) it works perfectly fine. Maybe thinking "I'm so uber, I'm going to have my browser send false/incorrect headers because I'm just so cool." caused the issue. Or perhaps you just couldn't see the option through your rage. Either way, you're an idiot.

Using Internet Explorer is not an option for me, and as a software developer I can say - and I'm willing to say it in court - that there is NO VALID REASON for a link in an otherwise functional menu to not show up in a browser unless they have code that makes it so as a way to keep people subscribed.

Well it didnt showed up for me either but after 1 minute of looking around i just changed my personal info to some crap and bingo, subscription cancelled
tl;dr its tied down to your personal information like most subs, especially those cc made, change one and second is erased, as software programmer you should know that trick |

Originally by: Mr Ravenblade Edited by: Mr Ravenblade on 28/06/2011 01:24:23 Ok I can now get a link, but it took some doing and I want to post this before i do it because I want to make sure it gets out there
Based on my tests, CCP actually does HIDE the unsubscribe link, and they seem to do it based on the USER AGENT of the browser that you are using from what data I can find in my tests, with a timeout so that once actived, it send the correct links to your ip no matter what browser you use It would not show AT ALL on the page when I used chrome, because the option was never sent to the page - the option really doesn't exist in the list so it never shows up - and then I logged out and then changed the user agent string that my browser sends to identify my browser to make it emulate "Internet Explorer".. BAM suddenly the option shows up.
I personally think this is intentional, to keep people who use chrome from canceling their subscriptions. Why? Because based on some marketing I read once when I worked in web marketing and my life deended on it, people that use IE are the poorest and least likely to buy things, while people who use chrome and other browsers are more likely to have extra money for things like - for example - a subscription to Eve they don't use. I see this as a stop-gap measure to annoy people who have extra money just enough that they "forget" to unsubscribe so CCP has a better and more stable income stream.
EDIT: Yes I know what it sounds like,. but this is eve, and CCP we are talking about here. Either way, I'm un-subbed.
Given CCP's corporate culture that has become apparent via reviews at GlassDoor, and the latest clusterf*ck, I would not put it past them to pull this shtick.
Know why? Icelandic law is lax. CCP, by dint of being Icelandic, could easily be exempt from other countries' laws through a wide variety of loopholes.
It still does NOT excuse the behavior, though.
CCP, are you tracking this? Fix this garbage, gentlemen.

I posted a picture proving my situation, and I have copies of the page code that shows that not only is the menu item NOT THERE, when it does show up it contains different spacing, as if being given as the output of a separate module. No such reason for such a situation exists, unless they are somehow filtering it or they have crappy login detection code to only show the link based on the status of an account (Far more likely).
So either CCP fails at basic session handling code or I am an epic troll. Given their long standing history of poor QA, fleet lag, unfinished features, and issues like CQ melting hardware or eve client updates modifying the boot.ini, what is statistically more likely?

Edited by: Bob TheSecond on 28/06/2011 17:11:35 My guess is, he THINKS he's a software developer, and on top of that I'm also guessing that IF he is a developer he only writes code for desktop applications that are probably done in Java because having to write an application that is cross platform without the Java virtual environment is "too hard." Good thing he isn't a web developer or his code would be so bloated with fail work arounds it would take a lifetime just to read it.
EDIT: I can haz stuff?

Statistically, I would say it's CCP's failure at basic session handling. There was another user earlier this month who encountered the same problem in all three browsers.
Fly safe.
P.S. Wire me some of your isk if you're quitting. I'd appreciate it very much. :)

Neither. Cancel Subscription has always been there for people who do not **** around with their browsers to to point where they are broken. And you could only dream of being an "epic troll", instead you are a sue-happy mouth breather who thinks getting lawyers involved at every turn is a good option. Maybe one day when you grow up, you will realize that you can make mistakes and sometimes you are the one to blame.

Why a forum in the year 2011 still has no automatic double post merge which can be done even with javascript mostly is beyond my understanding. |

I'm also a software developer and would be willing to say in court that you're simply wrong. Browser compatibility issues run rampant in the industry and can include things just like this. Further it can simply be a bug on CCP end.
Never attribute to malice what can be explained by incompetence.

A few days ago i had the same problem. There is NO way of unsubscribing while using CHROME webbrowser.
Eventualy, i was able to unsubscribe using IE web browser.
It really ****ed me off at first. I remember BLIZZARD doing this same thing. Whenever they would take the servers down, or have a bad patch, they would just turn off the account management webpage and disconnect the phones.
Its NO COINCIDENCE the Account Management servers are brought down every time there is a change to the game. It builds a pattern. And then, whenever there are patches or just HIGH subscription cancellations, the account management servers are brought down for "maintenance".
People get ****ed off, and want to cancel. So, if they remove the ability to cancel, at those moments, they are hoping the person will cool down. Eventualy download the new changes, try them out, and their feelings will subside.
From a sheer Human Being to Human being perspective, its an awful thing to do.
I don't know if this is whats happening. If its intentional or not. But it does seem that way.
It is these sorts of things that define a company in the eyes of the consumer.

I have spent the last few minutes looking, and I cant find it as it doesnt seem to exist.
I'm *this* close from calling my bank and just asking them to do a charge back, since CCP is not ALLOWING me to unsubscribe when and how I see fit, as required by the laws of my country.
Please note that this is not a "the option not rendering" scenerio; I'm software developer myself, so I have all the requisite debugging tools installed in my browser and in chrome, its even simply as all i have to do is right click examine element.. and both a search of the page code, the page loaded, and a fast jaunt through the loaded DOM gives nothing for being able to unsubscribe. I have confirmed this by copying the pages loaded DOM and saving them to a text file, and then manually confirming that no such "unsubscribe" link exists.
Needless to say, I am not happy about this and am wondering the following:
1. Is anybody else experiencing this issue? 2. Do we have any lawyers in the house?
If you are a lawyer and your willing to help me push this issue, please say so.
This is the first time I've heard about unsubbing issues. Some friends I fleet with on here have had no trouble unsubscribing. If you are having trouble, keep talking to customer service to get assistance. Even if you are leaving (good luck with whatever you plan to do), CS should still help you, as it is a customer service issue.
Ehnea
Edit: added for me that unsubscribe is the third option under Game Time so it exists. Ehnea Mehk

The woman didn't have 'hot coffee' she had 'Scaldingly, flesh-searingly boiling coffee' hot enough to cover her in burns requiring skin grafts and extended hospital stays.
Having spilt plenty of coffee on myself from the pot, or from restaurants, I can say that there is no expectation of PERMANENT, LIFE ALTERING SCARRING from spilling some coffee on your leg.
While that case is often held as an example of 'sue crazy' she had every reason to believe that the cup was safe, and it wasn't. Simple as that.
